1 Samuel 28
1 And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. And Achish said to David, Know thou assuredly, that thou shalt go out with me to battle, thou and thy men.
Or, il arriva, en ces jours-là, que les Philistins assemblèrent leurs troupes, pour se préparer à la guerre contre Israël; et Achis dit à David: Sache bien que tu viendras avec moi dans mon camp, toi et tes hommes.
2 And David said to Achish, Surely thou shalt know what thy servant can do. And Achish said to David, Therefore will I make thee keeper of my head for ever.
Et David répondit à Achis: Maintenant vous saurez ce que votre serviteur doit faire. Achis dit encore à David: Et moi je t’établirai garde de ma personne pour toujours.
3 Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that were mediums, and the wizards, out of the land.
Or, Samuel était mort, tout le peuple d’Israël l’avait pleuré, et ils l’avaient enseveli à Ramatha, sa ville. Et Saül avait chassé les magiciens et les devins de son pays.
4 And the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and encamped in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they encamped in Gilboa.
Et les Philistins s’assemblèrent et vinrent, et ils campèrent à Sunam; mais Saül aussi assembla tout Israël, et vint à Gelboé.
5 And when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled.
Et Saül vit le camp des Philistins, et il craignit, et son cœur fut tout saisi d’épouvante.
6 And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.
Et il consulta le Seigneur, et le Seigneur ne lui répondit point, ni par des songes, ni par les prêtres, ni par les prophètes.
7 Then said Saul to his servants, Seek me a woman that is a medium, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a medium at Endor.
Alors Saül dit à ses serviteurs: Cherchez-moi une femme ayant un esprit de python, et j’irai à elle, et je l’interrogerai. Et ses serviteurs lui répondirent: II y a à Endor une femme qui a un esprit de python.
8 And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine to me as a medium, and bring up for me, whom I shall name to thee.
Il changea donc son habillement, se revêtit d’autres vêtements, et s’en alla, lui et deux hommes avec lui, et ils vinrent vers la femme pendant la nuit, et il lui dit: Devine pour moi par l’esprit de python, et évoque-moi celui que je te dirai.
9 And the woman said to him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that are mediums, and the wizards, out of the land: Why then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die?
Et la femme lui répondit: Voilà que tu sais tout ce qu’a fait Saül, et de quelle manière il a exterminé de la terre les magiciens et les devins; pourquoi donc tends-tu des pièges à mon âme, pour que je sois tuée?
10 And Saul swore to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORD liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing.
Et Saül lui jura par le Seigneur, disant: Le Seigneur vit! il ne t’arrivera rien de mal à cause de ceci.
11 Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up to thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel.
Et la femme lui demanda: Qui t’évoquerai-je? Il répondit: Evoque-moi Samuel.
12 And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spoke to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul.
Or, quand la femme eut vu Samuel, elle s’écria à haute voix, et dit à Saül: Pourquoi m’en avez-vous imposé? car vous êtes Saül.
13 And the king said to her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said to Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth.
Alors le roi lui dit: Ne crains point; qu’as-tu vu? Et la femme répondit à Saül: Ce sont des dieux que j’ai vus montant de la terre.
14 And he said to her, What is his form? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself.
Et il lui demanda: Quelle est sa forme? Elle répondit: Un vieillard est monté, et il est couvert d’un manteau. Et Saül comprit que c’était Samuel, et il s’inclina sur sa face vers la terre, et il se prosterna.
15 And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am grievously distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God hath departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known to me what I shall do.
Or Samuel dit à Saül: Pourquoi m’avez-vous troublé, de sorte que je fusse évoqué? Et Saül répondit: Je suis dans une grande contrainte; puisque les Philistins combattent contre moi, que Dieu s’est retiré de moi, et qu’il n’a point voulu m’entendre ni par l’entremise des prophètes, ni par des songes; je vous ai donc appelé, pour que vous me montriez ce que je dois faire.
16 Then said Samuel, Why then dost thou ask of me, seeing the LORD hath departed from thee, and hath become thy enemy?
Et Samuel répliqua: Pourquoi m’interrogez-vous, puisque le Seigneur s’est retiré de vous, et qu’il est passé à votre rival?
17 And the LORD hath done to him, as he spoke by me: for the LORD hath torn the kingdom out of thy hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David:
Car le Seigneur vous fera, comme il a dit par mon entremise, et il divisera votre royaume en l’arrachant de votre main, et il le donnera à votre parent David,
18 Because thou didst not obey the voice of the LORD, nor execute his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing to thee this day.
Parce que vous n’avez pas obéi à la voix du Seigneur, et vous n’avez pas accompli la colère de sa fureur contre Amalec; c’est pour cela que ce que vous souffrez, le Seigneur vous l’a fait aujourd’hui.
19 Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.
Et le Seigneur abandonnera aussi Israël avec vous aux mains des Philistins; mais demain vous et vos fils vous serez avec moi; et même le camp d’Israël, le Seigneur le livrera aux Philistins.
20 Then Saul fell immediately all along on the earth, and was exceedingly afraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; for he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night.
Et aussitôt Saül tomba et resta étendu sur la terre; car il avait été épouvanté des paroles de Samuel, et il n’y avait pas de force en lui, parce qu’il n’avait pas mangé de pain durant tout ce jour-là.
21 And the woman came to Saul, and saw that he was greatly troubled, and said to him, Behold, thy handmaid hath obeyed thy voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have hearkened to thy words which thou spoke to me.
C’est pourquoi cette femme vint vers Saül (car il était fort troublé), et elle lui dit: Voilà que votre servante a obéi à votre voix, et j’ai mis mon âme en ma main, et j’ai écouté vos paroles, que vous m’avez dites.
22 Now therefore, I pray thee, hearken thou also to the voice of thy handmaid, and let me set a morsel of bread before thee; and eat, that thou mayest have strength, when thou goest on thy way.
Maintenant donc écoutez, vous aussi, la voix de votre servante, et je mettrai devant vous une bouchée de pain, afin que mangeant, vous repreniez vos forces, et que vous puissiez faire la route.
23 But he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants, together with the woman, compelled him; and he hearkened to their voice. So he arose from the earth, and sat upon the bed.
Saül refusa, et dit: Je ne mangerai point. Mais ses serviteurs et la femme le contraignirent, et enfin, leur voix écoutée, il se leva de terre, et s’assit sur le lit.
24 And the woman had a fat calf in the house; and she hasted, and killed it, and took flour, and kneaded it, and baked unleavened bread from it:
Or, cette femme avait un veau gras en sa maison, elle se hâta, et le tua; puis prenant de la farine, elle la pétrit, et fit cuire des pains azymes,
25 And she brought it before Saul, and before his servants; and they ate. Then they arose, and went away that night.
Et elle les mit devant Saül et devant ses serviteurs. Lorsqu’ils eurent mangé, ils se levèrent, et marchèrent durant toute cette nuit.
