1 Peter 4
1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
Le Christ donc ayant souffert pour nous en sa chair, armez vous aussi de la même pensée, car celui qui a souffert en sa chair cesse de pécher;
2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
En sorte que ce n’est plus selon les convoitises des hommes, mais selon la volonté de Dieu qu’il vit, durant ce qui lui reste de temps dans la chair.
3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries:
Car c’est assez de temps consacré à satisfaire la volonté des gentils, pour ceux qui ont vécu dans les impudicités, les convoitises, la crapule, les excès du manger et du boire, et le culte sacrilège des idoles.
4 In which they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you:
Sur quoi ils s’étonnent que vous ne couriez plus avec eux à cette même confusion de désordres, et ils blasphèment.
5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead.
Mais ils rendront compte à celui qui est prêt à juger les vivants et les morts.
6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
Car c’est pour cela que l’Évangile a été prêché aux morts eux-mêmes, afin que jugés devant les hommes selon la chair, ils vivent devant Dieu selon l’esprit.
7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober minded, and watch to prayer.
Or la fin de toutes choses est proche. Soyez donc prudents et veillez dans la prière.
8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover a multitude of sins.
Mais avant tout, ayez les uns pour les autres une charité constante; car la charité couvre la multitude des péchés.
9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
Exercez l’hospitalité entre vous sans murmure;
10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
Chacun de vous mettant au service des autres la grâce qu’il a reçue, comme de bons dispensateurs de la grâce multiforme de Dieu.
11 If any man speaketh, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man ministereth, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
Si quelqu’un parle, que ce soit comme des paroles de Dieu; si quelqu’un exerce un ministère, qu’il le fasse comme par la vertu que Dieu donne; afin qu’en toutes choses Dieu soit glorifié par Jésus-Christ, à qui est la gloire et l’empire dans les siècles des siècles. Amen. (aiōn g165)
12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you:
Mes bien-aimés, ne soyez pas surpris du feu ardent qui sert à vous éprouver, comme si quelque chose d’extraordinaire vous arrivait;
13 But rejoice, seeing ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
Mais participant ainsi aux souffrances du Christ, réjouissez-vous, afin qu’à la révélation de sa gloire vous vous réjouissiez aussi, transportés d’allégresse.
14 If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
Si on vous outrage pour le nom du Christ, vous serez bien heureux, parce que l’honneur, la gloire, la vertu de Dieu et son Esprit reposent sur vous.
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
Mais qu’aucun de vous ne souffre comme homicide, ou voleur, ou médisant, ou avide du bien d’autrui.
16 Yet if any man suffereth as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
Et si c’est comme chrétien, qu’il ne rougisse point, mais qu’il glorifie Dieu en ce monde.
17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first beginneth with us, what shall be the end of them that obey not the gospel of God?
Car voici le temps où doit commencer le jugement par la maison de Dieu. Or s’il commence par nous, quelle sera la fin de ceux qui ne croient pas à l’Évangile de Dieu?
18 And if the righteous is scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
Et si le juste est à peine sauvé, l’impie et le pécheur, où se présenteront-ils?
19 Therefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as to a faithful Creator.
Ainsi, que ceux-là mêmes qui souffrent selon la volonté de Dieu, remettent au Créateur fidèle leurs âmes avec leurs bonnes œuvres.
