Titus 1
1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the faith of God's chosen people and the knowledge of the truth that agrees with godliness,
PABLO, siervo de Dios, y apóstol de Jesu-Cristo segun la fé de los escogidos de Dios, y el conocimiento de la verdad que es segun la piedad,
2 with the certain hope of everlasting life that God, who does not lie, promised before all the ages of time. (aiōnios g166)
Para la esperanza de la vida eterna, la cual Dios, que no puede mentir, prometió ántes de los tiempos de los siglos, (aiōnios g166)
3 At the right time, he revealed his word by the message that he trusted me to deliver. I was to do this by the command of God our savior.
Y manifestó á sus tiempos su palabra por [la] predicacion, que me es á mí encomendada por mandamiento de nuestro Salvador Dios;
4 To Titus, a true son in our common faith. Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our savior.
A Tito, verdadero hijo en la comun fé: Gracia, misericordia, y paz de Dios Padre, y del Señor Jesu-Cristo Salvador nuestro.
5 For this purpose I left you in Crete, that you might set in order things not yet complete and ordain elders in every city as I directed you.
Por esta causa te dejé en Creta, para que corrigieses lo que falta, y pusieses ancianos por las villas, así como yo te mandé:
6 An elder must be without blame, the husband of one wife, with faithful children who do not have the reputation of being reckless or undisciplined.
El que fuere sin crimen, marido de una mujer, que tenga hijos fieles, que no estén acusados de disolucion, ó contumaces.
7 It is necessary for the overseer, as God's household manager, to be blameless. He must not be arrogant, not be easily angered, not addicted to wine, not a brawler, and not a greedy man.
Porque es menester que el obispo sea sin crimen, como dispensador de Dios; no soberbio, no iracundo, no amador del vino, no heridor, no codicioso de torpes ganancias;
8 Instead, he should be hospitable and a friend of what is good. He must be sensible, righteous, godly, and self-controlled.
Sino hospedador, amador de lo bueno, templado, justo, santo, continente;
9 He should hold tightly to the trustworthy message that was taught, so that he may be able to encourage others with good teaching and correct those who oppose him.
Retenedor de la fiel palabra que es conforme á la doctrina; para que tambien pueda exhortar con sana doctrina, y convencer á los que contradijeren.
10 For there are many rebellious people, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision.
Porque hay aun muchos contumaces, habladores de vanidades, y engañadores de las almas, mayormente [los] que [son] de la circuncision.
11 It is necessary to stop them. They are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful profit what they should not teach.
A los cuales es preciso tapar la boca; que trastornan casas enteras, enseñando lo que no conviene, por torpe ganancia.
12 One of their own prophets has said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.”
Dijo uno de ellos, propio profeta de ellos: Los Cretenses, siempre mentirosos, malas bestias, vientres perezosos.
13 This statement is true. Therefore, correct them severely, so that they may be sound in the faith,
Este testimonio es verdadero: por tanto repréndelos duramente, para que sean sanos en la fé;
14 not paying any attention to Jewish myths or to the commands of people who turn away from the truth.
No atendiendo á fabulas judáicas, y á mandamientos de hombres que se apartan de la verdad.
15 To those who are pure, all things are pure. But to those who are corrupt and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their minds and their consciences have been corrupted.
Todas las cosas son limpias á los limpios, mas á los contaminados é infieles nada es limpio: ántes su alma y conciencia están contaminadas.
16 They profess to know God, but they deny him by their actions. They are detestable, disobedient, and unfit for doing any good work.
Profésanse conocer á Dios, mas con los hechos [lo] niegan; siendo abominables y rebeldes, reprobados para toda buena obra.
