Ruth 1
1 It happened in the days when the judges ruled that there was a famine in the land, and a certain man of Bethlehem of Judah went to the country of Moab with his wife and his two sons.
বিচারকরা যখন দেশ শাসন করছিলেন সেই সময় দেশে দুর্ভিক্ষ হয়। যিহূদিয়ার বেথলেহেম থেকে একটি লোক তার স্ত্রী ও দুই ছেলে নিয়ে কিছুদিনের জন্য মোয়াব দেশে থাকবে বলে সেখানে যায়।
2 The name of the man was Elimelek, and the name of his wife was Naomi. The names of his two sons were Mahlon and Kilion, who were Ephrathites of Bethlehem of Judah. They arrived at the country of Moab and lived there.
সেই লোকটির নাম ছিল ইলীমেলক, তার স্ত্রীর নাম নয়মী এবং তাঁর দুই পুত্রের নাম মহলোন ও কিলিয়োন। তারা যিহূদিয়ার বেথলেহেমের অধিবাসী ইফ্রাথীয় ছিল। তারা মোয়াব দেশে গিয়া বসবাস করতে লাগল।
3 Then Elimelek, Naomi's husband, died, and she was left with her two sons.
কিন্তু ঘটনাক্রমে নয়মীর স্বামী ইলীমেলক মারা গেল। তাই সে দুই ছেলে নিয়ে একা বসবাস করতে লাগল।
4 These sons took wives from the women of Moab; the name of one was Orpah, and the name of the other was Ruth. They lived there for about ten years.
নয়মীর দুই ছেলে মোয়াবের মেয়েদের বিয়ে করল। সেই দুই মোয়াবীয় মহিলার নাম ছিল অর্পা ও রূত। মোয়াব দেশে এরা দশ বছর থাকার পর,
5 Then both Mahlon and Kilion died, leaving Naomi without her husband and without her two children.
নয়মীর দুই ছেলে মহলোন ও কিলিয়োনও মারা গেল। তাই নয়মী স্বামী ও দুই ছেলে হারিয়ে একা হয়ে গেল।
6 Then Naomi decided to leave Moab with her daughters-in-law and return to Judah because she had heard in the region of Moab that Yahweh had helped his people in need and had given them food.
এরপর নয়মী তার দুই ছেলের স্ত্রীদের নিয়ে মোয়াব দেশ থেকে ফিরে আসার জন্য তৈরি হল। মোয়াব দেশে থাকার সময় সে শুনেছিল যে সদাপ্রভু দুর্ভিক্ষের সময় তাঁর লোকদের খাবার জুগিয়েছেন।
7 So she left the place where she had been with her two daughters-in-law, and they walked down the road to return to the land of Judah.
তাই নয়মী তার দুই পুত্রবধূকে নিয়ে যিহূদা দেশের রাস্তার দিকে গেল।
8 Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go, return, each of you, to your mother's house. May Yahweh show kindness toward you, as you have shown kindness toward the dead and toward me.
কিন্তু নয়মী তার দুই পুত্রবধূকে বলল, “তোমরা যে যার মায়ের বাড়িতে ফিরে যাও। সদাপ্রভু তোমাদের দয়া দেখান, যেমন তোমরা যারা মারা গেছে তাদের উপর ও আমার উপর দয়া দেখিয়েছ।
9 May the Lord grant you that you find rest, each of you in the house of another husband.” Then she kissed them, and they raised their voices and cried.
সদাপ্রভু তোমাদের দুজনকে নিজের নিজের স্বামীর ঘর পেতে সাহায্য করুন!” তারপর সে তাদের চুমু খেল আর তারা জোরে জোরে কাঁদতে লাগল
10 They said to her, “No! We will return with you to your people.”
এবং তারা নয়মীকে বলল, “না, আমরা তোমার সঙ্গে তোমার লোকদের কাছে ফিরে যাব।”
11 But Naomi said, “Turn back, my daughters! Why will you go with me? Do I still have sons in my womb for you, so that they may become your husbands?
কিন্তু নয়মী বলল, “বাছা তোমরা ফিরে যাও। কেন তোমরা আমার সঙ্গে যাবে? আমার সঙ্গে আর কি কোনও ছেলে আছে যে তোমাদের স্বামী হতে পারবে?
12 Turn back, my daughters, go your own way, for I am too old to have a husband. If I said, 'I hope I get a husband tonight,' and then give birth to sons,
বাছা, ফিরে যাও। কারণ আমি যে বৃদ্ধা, বিয়ে করে আরেকটি স্বামী পাওয়ার বয়স আর নেই। যদি আমার আশাও থাকে, যদি আজ রাতেই আমি বিয়ে করে স্বামী পাই এবং ছেলেদের জন্ম দিই,
13 would you therefore wait until they were grown? Would you choose not to marry a husband? No, my daughters! It is exceedingly bitter to me for your sake that the hand of Yahweh has gone out against me.”
তারা যতদিন পর্যন্ত না বড়ো হচ্ছে ততদিন পর্যন্ত তোমরা কি তাদের জন্য বিয়ে না করে অপেক্ষা করবে? না বাছা, এরকম করা তোমাদের থেকে আমার জন্য খুবই শক্ত কাজ। কারণ সদাপ্রভু আমার বিরোধী হয়েছেন!”
14 Then her daughters-in-law lifted up their voices and cried again. Orpah kissed her mother-in-law farewell, but Ruth held on to her.
নয়মীর কথা শুনে, আবার তারা জোরে জোরে চিৎকার করে কাঁদতে লাগল। তারপর অর্পা তার শাশুড়িকে চুমু দিয়ে তার পথে চলে গেল, কিন্তু রূত তাকে ধরে থাকল।
15 Naomi said, “Listen, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods. Go back with your sister-in-law.”
নয়মী তাকে বলল, “দেখো, তোমার জা তার লোকজনের ও তার দেবতাদের কাছে ফিরে গেল। তাই তুমিও তার সঙ্গে ফিরে যাও।”
16 But Ruth said, “Do not make me go away from you, for where you go, I will go; where you stay, I will stay; your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.
কিন্তু রূত বলল, “আপনার কাছ থেকে ফিরে যেতে বা আপনাকে ছেড়ে যেতে আর আমাকে অনুরোধ করবেন না। আপনি যেখানে যাবেন আমিও সেখানে যাব। আপনি যেখানে থাকবেন আমিও সেখানে থাকব। আপনার লোকেরা আমার লোক এবং আপনার ঈশ্বর হবেন আমার ঈশ্বর।
17 Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May Yahweh punish me, and even more, if anything but death ever separates us.”
আপনি যেখানে মরবেন আমিও সেখানে মরব, এবং সেখানেই আমার কবর হবে। তাই সদাপ্রভুই এই বিষয়ে আমার বিচার করে শাস্তি দিন। আর যাই হোক শুধু মৃত্যুই যেন আমাকে আপনার থেকে আলাদা করে।”
18 When Naomi saw that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped arguing with her.
যখন নয়মী দেখলো যে, রূত কোনোমতেই তাকে ছেড়ে যাবে না, তাই সে আর কিছু বলল না।
19 So the two traveled until they came to the town of Bethlehem. It happened that when they arrived in Bethlehem, the entire town was very excited about them. The women said, “Is this Naomi?”
তাই তারা দুজন চলতে লাগল, যতক্ষণ পর্যন্ত না তারা বেথলেহেমে পৌঁছাল। তারা যখন বেথলেহেমে পৌঁছাল, তখন তাদের কারণে সমগ্র নগর আলোড়িত হল, এবং মহিলারা বলল, “এ মহিলাটি কি নয়মী?”
20 But she said to them, “Do not call me Naomi. Call me Bitter, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.
নয়মী তাদের বলল, “আমাকে নয়মী বোলো না। আমাকে মারা বলে ডাকো। কারণ সর্বশক্তিমান ঈশ্বর আমার জীবনে অনেক সমস্যা নিয়ে এসেছেন।
21 I went out full, but Yahweh has brought me home again empty. So why do you call me Naomi, seeing Yahweh has condemned me, that the Almighty has afflicted me?”
আমি পরিপূর্ণা হয়ে মোয়াবে গিয়েছিলাম, কিন্তু সদাপ্রভু আমাকে শূন্য করে ফিরিয়ে নিয়ে এসেছেন। কেন আমাকে নয়মী বলছ? সদাপ্রভু আমার বিরুদ্ধে কথা বলেছেন। সর্বশক্তিমান আমাকে দুঃখভোগ করতে অনুমতি দিয়েছেন।”
22 So Naomi and Ruth the Moabite woman, her daughter-in-law, returned from the country of Moab. They came to Bethlehem at the beginning of the barley harvest.
তাই নয়মী তার বউমা মোয়াবীয় রূতের সঙ্গে মোয়াব দেশ থেকে বেথলেহেমে ফিরে এল। যব কাটা শুরু হওয়ার সময় তারা বেথলেহেমে এসে পৌঁছাল।
