Psalms 94
1 Yahweh, God who avenges, God who avenges, shine over us.
O Dio delle vendette, o Eterno, Iddio delle vendette, apparisci nel tuo fulgore!
2 Rise up, judge of the earth, give to the proud what they deserve.
Lèvati, o giudice della terra, rendi ai superbi la loro retribuzione!
3 How long will the wicked, Yahweh, how long will the wicked rejoice?
Fino a quando gli empi, o Eterno, fino a quando gli empi trionferanno?
4 They pour out their arrogant words; all those who do evil boast.
Si espandono in discorsi arroganti, si vantano tutti questi operatori d’iniquità.
5 They crush your people, Yahweh; they afflict the nation that belongs to you.
Schiacciano il tuo popolo, o Eterno, e affliggono la tua eredità.
6 They kill the widow and foreigner who lives in their country, and they murder the fatherless.
Uccidono la vedova e lo straniero, ammazzano gli orfani,
7 They say, “Yahweh will not see, the God of Jacob does not take notice of it.”
e dicono: L’Eterno non vede, l’Iddio di Giacobbe non ci fa attenzione.
8 Understand, you stupid people! You fools, when will you ever learn?
Abbiate intendimento, voi gli stolti fra il popolo! E voi, pazzi, quando sarete savi?
9 He who made the ear, does he not hear? He who formed the eye, does he not see?
Colui che ha piantato l’orecchio non udirà egli? Colui che ha formato l’occhio non vedrà egli?
10 He who disciplines the nations, does he not correct? He is the one who gives knowledge to man.
Colui che castiga le nazioni non correggerà, egli che imparte all’uomo la conoscenza?
11 Yahweh knows the thoughts of men, that they are vapor.
L’Eterno conosce i pensieri dell’uomo, sa che son vanità.
12 Blessed is the one whom you instruct, Yahweh, the one whom you teach from your law.
Beato l’uomo che tu correggi, o Eterno, ed ammaestri con la tua legge
13 You give him rest in times of trouble until a pit is dug for the wicked.
per dargli requie dai giorni dell’avversità, finché la fossa sia scavata per l’empio.
14 For Yahweh will not forsake his people or abandon his inheritance.
Poiché l’Eterno non rigetterà il suo popolo, e non abbandonerà la sua eredità.
15 For judgment will again be righteous; and all the upright in heart will follow it.
Poiché il giudizio tornerà conforme a giustizia, e tutti i diritti di cuore lo seguiranno.
16 Who will rise up to defend me against the evildoers? Who will stand up for me against the wicked?
Chi si leverà per me contro i malvagi? Chi si presenterà per me contro gli operatori d’iniquità?
17 Unless Yahweh had been my help, I would soon be lying down in the place of silence.
Se l’Eterno non fosse stato il mio aiuto, a quest’ora l’anima mia abiterebbe il luogo del silenzio.
18 When I said, “My foot is slipping,” Your covenant faithfulness, Yahweh, held me up.
Quand’ho detto: Il mio piè vacilla, la tua benignità, o Eterno, m’ha sostenuto.
19 When cares within me are many, your consolations make me happy.
Quando sono stato in grandi pensieri dentro di me, le tue consolazioni han rallegrato l’anima mia.
20 Can a throne of destruction be allied with you, one who creates injustice by statute?
Il trono della nequizia t’avrà egli per complice? esso, che ordisce oppressioni in nome della legge?
21 They conspire together to take the life of the righteous and they condemn the innocent to death.
Essi si gettano assieme contro l’anima del giusto, e condannano il sangue innocente.
22 But Yahweh has been my high tower, and my God has been the rock of my refuge.
Ma l’Eterno è il mio alto ricetto, e il mio Dio è la ròcca in cui mi rifugio.
23 He will bring on them their own iniquity and will cut them off in their own wickedness. Yahweh our God will cut them off.
Egli farà ricader sovr’essi la loro propria iniquità, e li distruggerà mediante la loro propria malizia; l’Eterno, il nostro Dio, li distruggerà.
