< Psalms 9 >

1 For the chief musician; set to Muth Labben style. A psalm of David. I will give thanks to Yahweh with my whole heart; I will tell about all your marvelous deeds.
For the end, a Psalm of David, concerning the secrets of the Son. I will give thanks to you, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will recount all your wonderful works.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, Most High!
I will be glad and exult in you: I will sing to your name, O you Most High.
3 When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish before you.
When mine enemies are turned back, they shall be feeble and perish at your presence.
4 For you have defended my just cause; you sit on your throne, a righteous judge!
For you have maintained my cause and my right; you sat on the throne, that judge righteousness.
5 You rebuked the nations; you have destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name forever and ever.
You have rebuked the nations, and the ungodly one has perished; you have blotted out their name for ever, even for ever and ever.
6 The enemy crumbled like ruins when you overthrew their cities. All remembrance of them has perished.
The swords of the enemy have failed utterly; and you have destroyed cities: their memorial has been destroyed with a noise,
7 But Yahweh remains forever; he has established his throne for justice.
but the Lord endures for ever: he has prepared his throne for judgment.
8 He will judge the world with righteousness, and he will execute judgment for the nations with fairness.
And he will judge the world in righteousness, he will judge the nations in uprightness.
9 Yahweh also will be a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
The Lord also is become a refuge for the poor, a seasonable help, in affliction.
10 Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Yahweh, do not abandon those who seek you.
And let them that know your name hope in you: for you, O Lord, have not failed them that diligently seek you.
11 Sing praises to Yahweh, who rules in Zion; tell the nations what he has done.
Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Sion: declare his dealings among the nations.
12 For the God who avenges bloodshed remembers; he does not forget the cry of the oppressed.
For he remembered them, [in] making inquisition for blood: he has not forgotten the supplication of the poor.
13 Have mercy on me, Yahweh; see how I am oppressed by those who hate me, you who can snatch me from the gates of death.
Have mercy upon me, O Lord; look upon my affliction [which I suffer] of mine enemies, you that lift me up from the gates of death:
14 Oh, that I might proclaim all your praise. In the gates of the daughter of Zion I will rejoice in your salvation!
that I may declare all your praises in the gates of the daughter of Sion: I will exult in your salvation.
15 The nations have sunk down into the pit that they made; their feet are caught in the net that they hid.
The heathen are caught in the destruction which they planned: in the very snare which they hid is their foot taken.
16 Yahweh has made himself known; he has executed judgment; the wicked is ensnared by his own actions. (Selah)
The Lord is known as executing judgments: the sinner is taken in the works of his hands. (A song of, Pause)
17 The wicked are turned back and sent to Sheol, all the nations that forget God. (Sheol h7585)
Let sinners be driven away into Hades, [even] all the nations that forget God. (Sheol h7585)
18 For the needy will not always be forgotten, nor will the hope of the oppressed be forever dashed.
For the poor shall not be forgotten for ever: the patience of the needy ones shall not perish for ever.
19 Arise, Yahweh; do not let man win against you; may the nations be judged in your sight.
Arise, O Lord, let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged before you.
20 Terrify them, Yahweh; may the nations know that they are mere men. (Selah)
Appoint, O Lord, a lawgiver over them: let the heathen know that they are men. (Pause)
