< Psalms 86 >
1 A prayer of David. Listen, Yahweh, and answer me, for I am poor and oppressed.
Yahweh, listen [IDM] to what I say and answer me, because I am weak and needy.
2 Protect me, for I am loyal; my God, save your servant who trusts in you.
Prevent me from dying now, because I (am loyal to/continue to believe in) you; save/rescue me, because I serve you and I trust in you, my God.
3 Be merciful to me, Lord, for I cry out to you all day long.
Lord, be kind to me, because I cry out to you all during the day.
4 Make your servant glad, for to you, Lord, I lift up my soul.
Lord, cause me to be glad, because I (pray to/worship) [IDM] you.
5 You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and you show great mercy to all those who cry out to you.
Lord, you are good [to us], and you forgive [us]; you faithfully love very much all those who (pray/call out) to you.
6 Yahweh, listen to my prayer; hear the sound of my pleas.
Lord, listen to my prayer; hear me when I cry out to you to help me.
7 In the day of my trouble I call on you, for you will answer me.
When I have troubles, I call out to you, because you answer me.
8 There is no one who compares to you among the gods, Lord. There are no deeds like your deeds.
Lord, among all the gods [whom the heathen nations worship], there is no one like you; not one of them has done [the great things] that you have done.
9 All the nations that you have made will come and bow before you, Lord. They will honor your name.
Lord, [some day, people from] all the nations that you have established will come and bow down in front of you and they will praise you [MTY].
10 For you are great and do wonderful things; you only are God.
You are great, and you do wonderful/marvelous things; only you are God.
11 Teach me your ways, Yahweh. Then I will walk in your truth. Unite my heart to reverence you.
Yahweh, teach me what you want me to do in order that I may conduct my life according to what you say, which is true. Cause/Teach me to revere you.
12 Lord my God, I will praise you with my whole heart; I will glorify your name forever.
Lord, my God, I [will] thank you with all my inner being, and I will praise you forever.
13 For great is your covenant faithfulness toward me; you have rescued my life from the depths of Sheol. (Sheol )
You faithfully love me very much; you have prevented me from [dying and going to] the place where dead people are. (Sheol )
14 God, the arrogant have risen up against me. A gang of violent men seek my life. They have no regard for you.
But God, proud men are [trying to] attack me; a gang/group of cruel men are wanting to kill me; they are men who do not have any (respect for/interest in) you.
15 But you, Lord, are a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in covenant faithfulness and trustworthiness.
But Lord, you always are mercifully and kind; you do not become angry quickly, you faithfully love us very much and always do for us what you have promised to do.
16 Turn toward me and have mercy on me; give your strength to your servant; save the son of your servant woman.
Look down toward me and be merciful to me; cause me to be strong and save/rescue me who serves you [faithfully] like my mother did.
17 Show me a sign of your favor. Then those who hate me will see it and be put to shame because you, Yahweh, have helped me and comforted me.
Yahweh, do something to show me that you are being good to me in order that those who hate me will see that you have encouraged me and helped me, and as a result they will be ashamed.
