< Psalms 86 >
1 A prayer of David. Listen, Yahweh, and answer me, for I am poor and oppressed.
[A Prayer by David.] Hear, Jehovah, and answer me, for I am poor and needy.
2 Protect me, for I am loyal; my God, save your servant who trusts in you.
Preserve my soul, for I am godly. You, my God, save your servant who trusts in you.
3 Be merciful to me, Lord, for I cry out to you all day long.
Be merciful to me, Jehovah, for I call to you all day long.
4 Make your servant glad, for to you, Lord, I lift up my soul.
Bring joy to the soul of your servant, for to you, Jehovah, do I lift up my soul.
5 You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and you show great mercy to all those who cry out to you.
For you, Jehovah, are good, and ready to forgive; abundant in loving kindness to all those who call on you.
6 Yahweh, listen to my prayer; hear the sound of my pleas.
Hear, Jehovah, my prayer. Listen to the voice of my petitions.
7 In the day of my trouble I call on you, for you will answer me.
In the day of my trouble I will call on you, for you will answer me.
8 There is no one who compares to you among the gods, Lord. There are no deeds like your deeds.
There is no one like you among the gods, Jehovah, nor any deeds like your deeds.
9 All the nations that you have made will come and bow before you, Lord. They will honor your name.
All nations you have made will come and worship before you, Jehovah. They shall glorify your name.
10 For you are great and do wonderful things; you only are God.
For you are great, and do wondrous things. You are God alone.
11 Teach me your ways, Yahweh. Then I will walk in your truth. Unite my heart to reverence you.
Teach me your way, Jehovah. I will walk in your truth. Make my heart undivided to fear your name.
12 Lord my God, I will praise you with my whole heart; I will glorify your name forever.
I will praise you, Lord my God, with my whole heart. I will glorify your name forevermore.
13 For great is your covenant faithfulness toward me; you have rescued my life from the depths of Sheol. (Sheol )
For your loving kindness is great toward me. You have delivered my soul from the lowest Sheol. (Sheol )
14 God, the arrogant have risen up against me. A gang of violent men seek my life. They have no regard for you.
God, the proud have risen up against me. A company of violent men have sought after my soul, and they do not hold regard for you before them.
15 But you, Lord, are a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in covenant faithfulness and trustworthiness.
But you, Jehovah, are a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth.
16 Turn toward me and have mercy on me; give your strength to your servant; save the son of your servant woman.
Turn to me, and have mercy on me. Give your strength to your servant. Save the son of your handmaid.
17 Show me a sign of your favor. Then those who hate me will see it and be put to shame because you, Yahweh, have helped me and comforted me.
Show me a sign of your goodness, that those who hate me may see it, and be shamed, because you, Jehovah, have helped me, and comforted me.
