Psalms 72
1 A psalm of Solomon. Give the king your righteous decrees, God, your righteousness to the king's son.
Voor Salomo. O God! geef den koning Uw rechten, en Uw gerechtigheid den zoon des konings.
2 May he judge your people with righteousness and your poor with justice.
Zo zal hij Uw volk richten met gerechtigheid, en Uw ellendigen met recht.
3 May the mountains produce peace for the people; may the hills produce righteousness.
De bergen zullen den volke vrede dragen, ook de heuvelen, met gerechtigheid.
4 May he judge the poor of the people; may he save the children of the needy and break in pieces the oppressor.
Hij zal de ellendigen des volks richten; hij zal de kinderen des nooddruftigen verlossen, en den verdrukker verbrijzelen.
5 May they honor you while the sun endures, and as long as the moon lasts throughout all generations.
Zij zullen U vrezen, zolang de zon en maan zullen zijn, van geslacht tot geslacht.
6 May he come down like rain on the mown grass, like showers that water the earth.
Hij zal nederdalen als een regen op het nagras, als de druppelen, die de aarde bevochtigen.
7 May the righteous flourish in his days, and may there be an abundance of peace till the moon is no more.
In zijn dagen zal de rechtvaardige bloeien, en de veelheid van vrede, totdat de maan niet meer zij.
8 May he have dominion from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.
En hij zal heersen van de zee tot aan de zee, en van de rivier tot aan de einden der aarde.
9 May those who live in the wilderness bow down before him; may his enemies lick the dust.
De ingezetenen van dorre plaatsen zullen voor zijn aangezicht knielen, en zijn vijanden zullen het stof lekken.
10 May the kings of Tarshish and of the islands render tribute; may the kings of Sheba and Seba offer gifts.
De koningen van Tharsis en de eilanden zullen geschenken aanbrengen; de koningen van Scheba en Seba zullen vereringen toevoeren.
11 Indeed, may all kings fall down before him; may all nations serve him.
Ja, alle koningen zullen zich voor hem nederbuigen, alle heidenen zullen hem dienen.
12 For he helps the needy person who cries out and the poor person who has no other helper.
Want hij zal den nooddruftige redden, die daar roept, mitsgaders den ellendige, en die geen helper heeft.
13 He has pity on the poor and needy, and he saves the lives of needy people.
Hij zal den arme en nooddruftige verschonen, en de zielen der nooddruftigen verlossen.
14 He redeems their lives from oppression and violence, and their blood is precious in his sight.
Hij zal hun zielen van list en geweld bevrijden, en hun bloed zal dierbaar zijn in zijn ogen.
15 May he live! May the gold of Sheba be given to him. May people always pray for him; may God bless him all day long.
En hij zal leven; en men zal hem geven van het goud van Scheba, en men zal geduriglijk voor hem bidden; den gansen dag zal men hem zegenen.
16 May there be abundance of grain in the land; on the mountaintops may their crops wave. May the fruit of it be like Lebanon; may the people flourish in the cities like the grass of the field.
Is er een hand vol koren in het land op de hoogte der bergen, de vrucht daarvan zal ruisen als de Libanon; en die van de stad zullen bloeien als het kruid der aarde.
17 May his name endure forever; may his name continue as long as the sun; may people be blessed in him; may all nations call him blessed.
Zijn naam zal zijn tot in eeuwigheid; zolang als er de zon is, zal zijn naam van kind tot kind voortgeplant worden; en zij zullen in hem gezegend worden; alle heidenen zullen hem welgelukzalig roemen.
18 May Yahweh God, the God of Israel, be blessed, who alone does wonderful things.
Geloofd zij de HEERE God, de God Israels, Die alleen wonderen doet.
19 May his glorious name be blessed forever, and may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen.
En geloofd zij de Naam Zijner heerlijkheid tot in eeuwigheid; en de ganse aarde worde met Zijn heerlijkheid vervuld. Amen, ja, amen.
20 The prayers of David son of Jesse are finished.
De gebeden van David, den zoon van Isai, hebbende een einde.
