Psalms 56

1 For the chief musician; set to Jonath elem rehokim. A psalm of David. A michtam; when the Philistines took him in Gath. Be merciful to me, God, for men are attacking me! All the day long those who fight me press their assault.

Dem Sangmeister. Nach (der Melodie des Liedes: ) "O stumme Taube in der Ferne". Ein Gedicht Davids. / Als ihn die Philister in Gat ergriffen.

2 My enemies trample me all day long; for there are many who arrogantly fight against me.

Sei mir gnädig, Elohim, denn Menschen treten mich nieder; / Allzeit befehden und drängen sie mich.

3 When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.

Meine Laurer quälen mich fort und fort, / Denn in Stolz befehden mich viele.

4 In God, whose word I praise— in God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid; what can mere man do to me?

Will Furcht mich befallen, / So trau ich auf dich.

5 All the day long they twist my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil.

Elohim stärkt mich, sein Wort zu rühmen. / Elohim vertrau ich, ich fürchte mich nicht. / Was kann mir ein Sterblicher tun?

6 They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, and they mark my steps, just as they have waited for my life.

Meine Worte verdrehen sie immerfort, / Nur Böses denken sie wider mich.

7 Do not let them escape doing iniquity. Bring down the peoples in your anger, God.

Sie rotten sich, senden Laurer aus: / Die spüren mir nach auf Schritt und Tritt; / Denn sie trachten mir nach dem Leben.

8 You number my wanderings and put my tears into your bottle; are they not in your book?

Doch umsonst! Ich entrinne —. / Im Zorn, Elohim, wirf Leute danieder!

9 Then my enemies will turn back on the day that I call to you; this I know, that God is for me.

Meine Flüchtlingstage hast du gezählt. / Sammle meine Tränen in deinen Schlauch! / Stehen sie nicht in deinem Buch?

10 In God—whose word I praise, in Yahweh—whose word I praise,

Einst weichen meine Feinde zurück; / Denn es kommt ein Tag, da ich rufe. / Dies weiß ich, daß Elohim hilft.

11 in God I trust, I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?

Elohim stärkt mich, das Wort zu rühmen, / Jahwe stärkt mich, das Wort zu rühmen.

12 The duty to fulfill my vows to you is on me, God; I will give thank offerings to you.

Elohim vertrau ich, ich fürchte mich nicht. / Was können mir Menschen tun?

13 For you have rescued my life from death; you have kept my feet from falling, so that I may walk before God in the light of the living.

Dir, Elohim, erfüll ich meine Gelübde, / Dankopfer will ich dir bringen. Denn du hast mein Leben vom Tode errettet, / Ja, meine Füße vom Gleiten, / Damit ich wandeln kann vor Elohim / Im Lichte der Lebendigen.
