< Psalms 52 >
1 For the chief musician. A maschil of David; when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said to him, “David has come to the house of Ahimelech.” Why are you proud of making trouble, you mighty man? The covenant faithfulness of God comes every day.
To him that excelleth. A Psalme of Dauid to giue instruction. When Doeg the Edomite came and shewed Saul, and saide to him, Dauid is come to the house of Abimelech. Why boastest thou thy selfe in thy wickednesse, O man of power? the louing kindenesse of God indureth dayly.
2 Your tongue plans destruction like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
Thy tongue imagineth mischiefe, and is like a sharpe rasor, that cutteth deceitfully.
3 You love evil more than good and lying rather than speaking righteousness. (Selah)
Thou doest loue euill more then good, and lies more then to speake the trueth. (Selah)
4 You love all words that devour others, you deceitful tongue.
Thou louest all wordes that may destroye, O deceitfull tongue!
5 God will likewise destroy you forever; he will take you up and pluck you out of your tent and root you out of the land of the living. (Selah)
So shall God destroy thee for euer: he shall take thee and plucke thee out of thy tabernacle, and roote thee out of ye land of the liuing. (Selah)
6 The righteous will also see it and fear; they will laugh at him and say,
The righteous also shall see it, and feare, and shall laugh at him, saying,
7 “See, this is a man who did not make God his refuge, but he trusted in the abundance of his wealth, and he was strong when he destroyed others.”
Beholde the man that tooke not God for his strength, but trusted vnto the multitude of his riches, and put his strength in his malice.
8 But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in God's house; I will trust in the covenant faithfulness of God forever and ever.
But I shall bee like a greene oliue tree in the house of God: for I trusted in the mercie of God for euer and euer.
9 I will give you thanks forever for what you have done. I will wait for your name, because it is good, in the presence of your godly people.
I will alway praise thee, for that thou hast done this, and I will hope in thy Name, because it is good before thy Saints.
