< Psalms 52 >
1 For the chief musician. A maschil of David; when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said to him, “David has come to the house of Ahimelech.” Why are you proud of making trouble, you mighty man? The covenant faithfulness of God comes every day.
For the choirmaster. A Maskil of David. After Doeg the Edomite went to Saul and told him, “David has gone to the house of Ahimelech.” Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man? The loving devotion of God endures all day long.
2 Your tongue plans destruction like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
Your tongue devises destruction like a sharpened razor, O worker of deceit.
3 You love evil more than good and lying rather than speaking righteousness. (Selah)
You love evil more than good, falsehood more than speaking truth.
4 You love all words that devour others, you deceitful tongue.
You love every word that devours, O deceitful tongue.
5 God will likewise destroy you forever; he will take you up and pluck you out of your tent and root you out of the land of the living. (Selah)
Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin; He will snatch you up and tear you away from your tent; He will uproot you from the land of the living.
6 The righteous will also see it and fear; they will laugh at him and say,
The righteous will see and fear; they will mock the evildoer, saying,
7 “See, this is a man who did not make God his refuge, but he trusted in the abundance of his wealth, and he was strong when he destroyed others.”
“Look at the man who did not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his wealth and strengthened himself by destruction.”
8 But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in God's house; I will trust in the covenant faithfulness of God forever and ever.
But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in the loving devotion of God forever and ever.
9 I will give you thanks forever for what you have done. I will wait for your name, because it is good, in the presence of your godly people.
I will praise You forever, because You have done it. I will wait on Your name— for it is good— in the presence of Your saints.
