Psalms 48

1 A song; a psalm of the sons of Korah. Great is Yahweh and greatly to be praised, in the city of our God on his holy mountain.

Cantico. Salmo. Dei figli di Core. Grande è il Signore e degno di ogni lode nella città del nostro Dio.

2 Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

Il suo monte santo, altura stupenda, è la gioia di tutta la terra. Il monte Sion, dimora divina, è la città del grande Sovrano.

3 God has made himself known in her palaces as a refuge.

Dio nei suoi baluardi è apparso fortezza inespugnabile.

4 For, see, the kings assembled themselves; they passed by together.

Ecco, i re si sono alleati, sono avanzati insieme.

5 They saw it, then they were amazed; they were dismayed, and they hurried away.

Essi hanno visto: attoniti e presi dal panico, sono fuggiti.

6 Trembling took hold of them there, pain as when a woman is in labor.

Là sgomento li ha colti, doglie come di partoriente,

7 With the east wind you break the ships of Tarshish.

simile al vento orientale che squarcia le navi di Tarsis.

8 As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of Yahweh of hosts, in the city of our God; God will establish it forever. (Selah)

Come avevamo udito, così abbiamo visto nella città del Signore degli eserciti, nella città del nostro Dio; Dio l'ha fondata per sempre.

9 We have thought about your covenant faithfulness, God, in the middle of your temple.

Ricordiamo, Dio, la tua misericordia dentro il tuo tempio.

10 As your name is, God, so is your praise to the ends of the earth; your right hand is full of righteousness.

Come il tuo nome, o Dio, così la tua lode si estende sino ai confini della terra; è piena di giustizia la tua destra.

11 Let Mount Zion be glad, let the daughters of Judah rejoice because of your righteous decrees.

Gioisca il monte di Sion, esultino le città di Giuda a motivo dei tuoi giudizi.

12 Walk around Mount Zion, go round about her; count her towers,

Circondate Sion, giratele intorno, contate le sue torri.

13 notice well her walls, and look at her palaces so that you may tell it to the next generation.

Osservate i suoi baluardi, passate in rassegna le sue fortezze, per narrare alla generazione futura:

14 For this God is our God forever and ever; he will be our guide to death.

Questo è il Signore, nostro Dio in eterno, sempre: egli è colui che ci guida.
