< Psalms 45 >
1 For the chief musician; set to Shoshannim. A psalm of the sons of Korah. A maschil. A song of loves. My heart overflows on a good subject; I will read aloud the words I have composed about the king; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.
For the end, for alternate [strains] by the sons of Core; for instruction, a Song concerning the beloved. My heart has uttered a good matter: I declare my works to the king: my tongue is the pen of a quick writer.
2 You are fairer than the children of mankind; grace is poured onto your lips; therefore we know that God has blessed you forever.
You are more beautiful than the sons of men: grace has been shed forth on your lips: therefore God has blessed you for ever.
3 Put your sword on your side, mighty one, in your glory and your majesty.
Gird your sword upon your thigh, O Mighty One, in your comeliness, and in your beauty;
4 In your majesty ride on triumphantly because of trustworthiness, meekness, and righteousness; your right hand will teach you fearful things.
and bend [your bow], and prosper, and reign, because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and your right hand shall guide you wonderfully.
5 Your arrows are sharp; the peoples fall under you; your arrows are in the hearts of the king's enemies.
Your weapons are sharpened, Mighty One, (the nations shall fall under you) [they are] in the heart of the king's enemies.
6 Your throne, God, is forever and ever; a scepter of justice is the scepter of your kingdom.
Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of your kingdom is a sceptre of righteousness.
7 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness more than your companions.
You have loved righteousness, and hated iniquity: therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your fellows.
8 All your garments smell of myrrh, aloes, and cassia; out of ivory palaces stringed instruments have made you glad.
Myrrh, and stacte, and cassia [are exhaled] from your garments, [and] out of the ivory palaces,
9 Kings' daughters are among your honorable women; at your right hand stands the queen clothed in gold of Ophir.
with which kings' daughters have gladdened you for your honor: the queen stood by on your right hand, clothed in vesture wrought with gold, [and] arrayed in various colors.
10 Listen, daughter, consider and incline your ear; forget your own people and your father's house.
Hear, O daughter, and see, and incline your ear; forget also your people, and your father's house.
11 In this way the king will desire your beauty; he is your master; revere him.
Because the king has desired your beauty; for he is your Lord.
12 The daughter of Tyre will be there with a gift; the rich among the people will beg for your favor.
And the daughter of Tyre shall adore him with gifts; the rich of the people of the land shall supplicate your favor.
13 The royal daughter in the palace is all glorious; her clothing is worked with gold.
All her glory [is that] of the daughter of the king of Esebon, robed [as she is] in golden fringed garments,
14 She will be led to the king in embroidered dress; the virgins, her companions who follow her, will be brought to you.
in embroidered [clothing]: virgins shall be brought to the king after her: her fellows shall be brought to you.
15 They will be led by gladness and rejoicing; they will enter into the king's palace.
They shall be brought with gladness and exultation: they shall be led into the king's temple.
16 In the place of your fathers will be your children, whom you will make princes in all the earth.
Instead of your fathers children are born to you: you shall make them princes over all the earth.
17 I will make your name to be remembered in all generations; therefore the peoples will give you thanks forever and ever.
They shall make mention of your name from generation to generation: therefore shall the nations give thanks to you for ever, even for ever and ever.
