< Psalms 36 >
1 For the chief musician. A psalm of David the servant of Yahweh. An evil man speaks of his transgression from deep in his heart, there is no fear of God in his eyes.
To the chief Musician, [A Psalm] of David the servant of the LORD. The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, [that there is] no fear of God before his eyes.
2 For he comforts himself, thinking that his sin will not be discovered and be hated.
For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful.
3 His words are sinful and deceitful; he does not want to be wise and do good.
The words of his mouth [are] iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, [and] to do good.
4 While he lies in bed, he plans ways to sin; he sets out on an evil way; he does not reject evil.
He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way [that is] not good; he abhorreth not evil.
5 Your covenant faithfulness, Yahweh, reaches to the heavens; your loyalty reaches to the clouds.
Thy mercy, O LORD, [is] in the heavens; [and] thy faithfulness [reacheth] unto the clouds.
6 Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep. Yahweh, you preserve both mankind and the animals.
Thy righteousness [is] like the great mountains; thy judgments [are] a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast.
7 How precious is your covenant faithfulness, God! Humanity takes refuge under the shadow of your wings.
How excellent [is] thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
8 They feast upon the abundance of your house; you let them drink from the river of your delights.
They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we will see light.
For with thee [is] the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.
10 Extend your covenant faithfulness fully to those who know you, your defense to the upright of heart.
O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 Do not let the foot of the arrogant man come near to me. Do not let the hand of the wicked drive me away.
Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me.
12 Over there the evildoers have fallen; they are knocked down and are not able to get up.
There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.
