< Psalms 29 >
1 A psalm of David. Ascribe to Yahweh, you sons of God, ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength!
You angels in heaven, praise Yahweh! Praise him because he is very glorious and powerful.
2 Ascribe to Yahweh the glory his name deserves. Bow down to Yahweh in the splendor of holiness!
Proclaim that (he/his name) is glorious; bow down before Yahweh in his holy [temple].
3 The voice of Yahweh is heard over the waters; the God of glory thunders, Yahweh thunders over many waters.
Yahweh’s voice is heard above the oceans; Yahweh, the glorious God, thunders. His voice thunders over the huge oceans [DOU].
4 The voice of Yahweh is powerful; the voice of Yahweh is majestic.
His voice is powerful and majestic.
5 The voice of Yahweh breaks the cedars; Yahweh breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.
The sound of Yahweh’s voice breaks great cedar trees, the cedars that grow in Lebanon.
6 He makes Lebanon skip like a calf and Sirion like a young ox.
He causes [the mountains in] Lebanon to jump like calves jump, and causes Hermon [Mountain] to jump like a young bull jumps.
7 The voice of Yahweh sends out flames of fire.
Yahweh’s voice causes lightning to flash.
8 The voice of Yahweh shakes the wilderness; Yahweh shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
His voice causes the desert to shake; he shakes Kadesh Desert [in the southern part of Judah].
9 The voice of Yahweh causes the oaks to twist and strips the forests bare. Everyone in his temple says, “Glory!”
Yahweh’s voice shakes the huge oak trees and strips the leaves from the trees while the people in the temple shout, “Praise [God]!”
10 Yahweh sits as king over the flood; Yahweh sits as king forever.
Yahweh ruled over the flood [that covered the earth]; he is our King who will rule forever.
11 Yahweh gives strength to his people; Yahweh blesses his people with peace.
Yahweh enables his people to be strong, and he blesses them by causing things to go well for them.
