1 A wise son hears his father's instruction, but a mocker will not listen to rebuke.
Mwana mwenye hekima husikia mafundisho ya babaye, bali mwenye dharau hasikilizi maonyo.
2 From the fruit of his mouth a person enjoys good things, but the appetite of the treacherous is for violence.
Kutoka tunda la midomo yake mtu hufurahia mambo mema, bali wasio waaminifu wanatamani sana jeuri.
3 The one who guards his mouth protects his life, but the one who opens wide his lips will ruin himself.
Yeye alindaye midomo yake hulinda nafsi yake, bali yeye asemaye kwa haraka ataangamia.
4 The appetite of lazy people craves but gets nothing, but the appetite of diligent people will be richly satisfied.
Mvivu hutamani sana na hapati kitu, bali nafsi ya mwenye bidii hutoshelezwa kikamilifu.
5 The righteous person hates lies, but a wicked person makes himself repugnant, and he does what is shameful.
Mwenye haki huchukia uongo, bali waovu huleta aibu na fedheha.
6 Righteousness protects those who are faultless in their path, but wickedness turns away those who commit sin.
Haki humlinda mtu mwadilifu, bali uovu humwangusha mwenye dhambi.
7 There is someone who enriches himself, but has nothing at all, and there is someone who gives everything away, yet is truly wealthy.
Mtu mmoja hujifanya tajiri, kumbe hana chochote; mwingine hujifanya maskini, kumbe ana utajiri mwingi.
8 The ransom of a rich man's life is his wealth, but a poor person does not hear a threat.
Utajiri wa mtu waweza kukomboa maisha yake, bali mtu maskini hasikii kitisho.
9 The light of righteous people rejoices, but the lamp of wicked people will be put out.
Nuru ya mwenye haki hungʼaa sana, bali taa ya mwovu itazimwa.
10 Pride only breeds conflict, but for those who listen to good advice there is wisdom.
Kiburi huzalisha magomvi tu, bali hekima hupatikana kwa wale wanaozingatia ushauri.
11 Wealth dwindles away when there is too much vanity, but the one who makes money by working with his hand will make his money grow.
Fedha isiyo ya halali hupungua, bali yeye akusanyaye fedha kidogo kidogo huongezeka.
12 When hope is postponed, it breaks the heart, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
Kilichotarajiwa kikikawia kuja moyo huugua, bali tumaini lililotimizwa ni mti wa uzima.
13 Whoever despises instruction brings destruction on himself, but he who respects the commandment will be rewarded.
Yeye anayedharau mafundisho anajiletea maangamizi, bali yeye anayeheshimu agizo hupewa tuzo.
14 The teaching of a wise person is a fountain of life, turning you away from the snares of death.
Mafundisho ya mwenye busara ni chemchemi ya uzima, ili kumwepusha mtu na mitego ya mauti.
15 Good insight wins favor, but the way of the treacherous is never-ending.
Ufahamu mzuri hupata upendeleo, bali njia ya asiye mwaminifu ni ngumu.
16 Prudent people act out of knowledge in every decision, but a fool parades his folly.
Kila mwenye busara hutenda kwa maarifa, bali mpumbavu hudhihirisha upumbavu wake.
17 A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a faithful envoy brings reconciliation.
Mjumbe mwovu huanguka kwenye taabu, bali mjumbe mwaminifu huleta uponyaji.
18 The one who ignores instruction will have poverty and shame, but honor will come to him who learns from correction.
Yeye anayedharau maonyo hupata umaskini na aibu, bali yeye anayekubali maonyo huheshimiwa.
19 A longing realized is sweet to the appetite, but fools hate to turn away from evil.
Tarajio lililotimizwa ni tamu kwa nafsi, bali wapumbavu huchukia sana kuacha ubaya.
20 Walk with wise people and you will be wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
Yeye atembeaye na mwenye hekima atapata hekima, bali rafiki wa mpumbavu hupata madhara.
21 Disaster runs after sinners, but righteous people are rewarded with good.
Balaa humwandama mtenda dhambi, bali mafanikio ni thawabu kwa mwenye haki.
22 A good person leaves an inheritance for his grandchildren, but a sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous person.
Mtu mwema huwaachia wana wa wanawe urithi, bali mali ya wenye dhambi imehifadhiwa kwa ajili ya wenye haki.
23 An unplowed field owned by the poor could produce much food, but it is swept away by injustice.
Shamba la mtu maskini laweza kuzalisha chakula kingi, bali dhuluma hukifutilia mbali.
24 The one who does not discipline his son hates him, but one who loves his son is careful to instruct him.
Yeye aizuiaye fimbo yake hampendi mwanawe, bali yeye ampendaye huwa mwangalifu kumwadibisha.
25 The righteous person eats until he satisfies his appetite, but the stomach of the wicked is always hungry.
Mwenye haki hula mpaka akaridhisha moyo wake, bali tumbo la mwovu hutaabika kwa njaa.
