Proverbs 11
1 Yahweh hates scales that are not accurate, but he delights in a precise weight.
Ein Greuel für den Herrn ist falsche Waage; ein richtiges Gewicht gefällt ihm wohl.
2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
Kommt auf der Übermut, kommt auch Verachtung; mit den Bescheidenen kommt Weisheit.
3 The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crooked ways of the treacherous destroy them.
Der Gerechten Unschuld spendet ihnen Ruhe; der Frevler Falschheit tötet sie.
4 Wealth is worthless on the day of wrath, but doing right keeps you from death.
Am Zornestag nutzt kein Besitz; vom Tod errettet Almosen.
5 The right conduct of a blameless person makes his way straight, but the wicked will fall because of their own wickedness.
Die Frömmigkeit der Frommen ebnet ihm den Weg; der Frevler stürzt durch seine Schlechtigkeit.
6 The right conduct of those who please God keeps them safe, but the treacherous are trapped by their cravings.
Der Redlichen Gerechtigkeit errettet sie; die Frevler werden durch die Schlechtigkeit gefangen.
7 When a wicked man dies, his hope perishes and the hope that was in his strength comes to nothing.
Jedwede Hoffnung endet mit des Frevlers Tod, und die Erwartung aus den Sünden wird zunichte.
8 The righteous person is kept away from trouble and it comes upon the wicked instead.
Wer Recht erhalten, ist von Not erlöst; an seine Stelle kommt der Gegner.
9 With his mouth the godless person destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge righteous people are kept safe.
Der Frevler sucht durch Reden seinen Gegner zu vernichten; doch die im Rechte, werden durch die Einsicht auch gerettet.
10 When righteous people prosper, a city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.
Es jauchzt die Stadt ob ihrer Frommen Glück, und Jubel gibt es bei der Frevler Untergang.
11 Through the good gifts of those who please God, the city becomes great; by the mouth of the wicked, the city is torn down.
Der Staat blüht durch den Segen Redlicher; durch Frevler Mund geht er zugrunde.
12 The man who has contempt for his friend has no sense, but a man of understanding keeps quiet.
Der Tor spricht voll Verachtung wider seinen Gegner; der Kluge aber schweigt.
13 Whoever goes around slandering reveals secrets, but a faithful person keeps a matter covered.
Geheimnisse verrät der Neuigkeitenkrämer; der Zuverlässige behält für sich die Sache.
14 Where there is no wise direction, a nation falls, but victory comes by consulting many advisors.
Wenn's an der Führung fehlt, dann kommt ein Volk zu Falle; gut aber steht's, wo viele sind der Ratgeber.
15 Whoever guarantees a loan for a stranger will surely suffer harm, but the one who hates giving a pledge in that kind of promise is safe.
Sehr schlimm kann's dem ergehen, der sich für einen anderen verbürgt; doch sicher bleibt, wer nicht den Handschlag liebt.
16 A gracious woman gets honor, but ruthless people grasp for wealth.
Wie ein verführerisches Weib an Schmuck sich klammert, so klammern sich an Reichtum die Gewalttätigen.
17 A kind person benefits himself, but one who is cruel hurts himself.
Wer Gutes tut, der tut sich selber Gutes; wer harten Herzens ist, der schneidet sich ins eigene Fleisch.
18 The wicked person lies to get his wages, but one who sows what is right reaps the wages of truth.
Der Frevel bringt nur nichtigen Lohn; der Tugend Lohn ist wahrer Lohn.
19 An honest person who does what is right will live, but the one who pursues evil will die.
Festhalten an der Tugend führt zum Leben; das frevelhafte Tun bringt sichern Tod.
20 Yahweh hates those whose hearts are perverse, but he delights in those whose ways are blameless.
Ein Greuel sind dem Herrn all, die verkehrten Herzens sind; sein Wohlgefallen haben, die unsträflich wandeln.
21 Be sure of this—the wicked person will not go unpunished, but the descendants of righteous people will be kept safe.
Untrüglich ist's: Nicht straflos bleibt der Böse; doch frei geht das Geschlecht der Frommen aus.
22 Like a gold ring in a pig's nose is a beautiful woman without discretion.
Ein goldener Ring im Rüssel eines Schweines ist ein Weib, das schön, doch ohne Scham.
23 The desires of righteous people result in good, but wicked people can only hope for wrath.
Der Frommen Wunsch geht nur aufs Nötige; der Frevler Sehnen ist das Übermaß.
24 There is one who scatters—he will accumulate even more; another withholds what he should give—he comes to poverty.
Der eine teilt sehr reichlich aus und wird noch reicher; ein andrer spart am Nötigen und wird noch ärmer.
25 The generous person will prosper and the one who gives water to others will have water for himself.
Ein dankbares Gemüt wird überhäuft mit Gutem; wer Wohltaten erweist, empfängt auch solche.
26 People curse the man who refuses to sell grain, but good gifts crown the head of him who sells it.
Wer Korn zurückhält, diesem flucht das Volk; wer aber Korn verkauft, auf dessen Haupt kommt Segen.
27 The one who diligently seeks good is also seeking favor, but the one who searches for evil will find it.
Wer Gutes anstrebt, zielt auf Wohlwollen; wer aber Böses sucht, auf den kommt's auch.
28 Those who trust in their riches will fall, but like the leaf, righteous people will flourish.
Wer nur auf Reichtum sich verläßt, verwelkt; die Frommen aber grünen so wie grünes Laub.
29 The one who brings trouble on his own household will inherit the wind and the fool will become a servant to the wise of heart.
Wer seine eigene Familie darben läßt, wird Wind erwerben; der Tor wird Sklave dessen, der klüger ist als er.
30 The righteous person will be like a tree of life, but violence takes away lives.
Ein Lebensbaum ist des Gerechten Frucht; wer Seelen an sich zieht, ist weise.
31 Behold! The righteous person receives what he deserves; how much more the wicked and the sinner!
Wenn schon den Frommen trifft auf Erden die Vergeltung, um wieviel mehr den Frevler und den Sünder!
