< Proverbs 1 >
1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, the king of Israel.
Israel manghai David capa Solomon kah he,
2 These proverbs are to teach wisdom and instruction, to teach words of insight,
cueihnah ming sak ham neh ol yakmingnah te yakming sak ham thuituennah la om.
3 that you may receive instruction in order to live by doing what is right, just, and fair.
Thuituennah la loh ham neh duengnah, tiktamnah neh vanatnah te aka cangbam sak la om.
4 These proverbs are also to give wisdom to the naive, and to give knowledge and discretion to young people.
Camoe hlangyoe taengah mingnah neh thuepnah, khinglangnah aka pae la om.
5 Let wise people listen and increase their learning, and let discerning people get guidance,
Aka cueih loh hnatun saeh lamtah rhingtuknah la thap thil saeh, aka yakming loh a niing la hol saeh.
6 to understand proverbs, sayings, and words of wise people and their riddles.
Aka cueih rhoek kah, nuettahnah olka neh amih kah olkael aka yakming sak la om.
7 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge— fools despise wisdom and instruction.
BOEIPA hinyahnah tah cueihnah, mingnah a tongnah la om tih aka ang loh thuituennah a hnoelrhoeng.
8 My son, hear the instruction of your father and do not lay aside the rules of your mother;
Ka ca aw na pa kah thuituennah he hnatun lamtah na nu kah olkhueng khaw tloeng sut boeh.
9 they will be a graceful wreath for your head and pendants hanging from your neck.
Te te na lu ham mikdaithen kah lukhueng neh na rhawn ham oi la om.
10 My son, if sinners try to entice you into their sin, refuse to follow them.
Ka ca nang te hlangtholh rhoek loh n'hloih cakhaw rhoih boeh.
11 If they say, “Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood, let us hide and attack innocent people for no reason.
“Kaimih taengah pongpa lamtah hlang thii te rhongngol thil sih, ommongsitoe te a tloengtlaih la dawn sih.
12 Let us swallow them up alive, like Sheol takes away those who are healthy, and make them like those who fall into the pit. (Sheol )
Amih te saelkhui bangla a hing la dolh sih lamtah tangrhom ah a pum la a cungpung bangla om saeh. (Sheol )
13 We shall find all kinds of valuable things; we will fill our houses with what we steal from others.
A boei a rhaeng boeih neh a phu aka tlo te n'dang uh vetih mamih im he kutbuem neh m'baetawt sak mako.
14 Throw in your lot with us; we will all have one purse together.”
Na hmulung te kaimih lakli ah naan lamtah mamih boeih ham sungsa pakhat la om saeh,” a ti uh atah,
15 My son, do not walk down that road with them; do not let your foot touch where they walk;
Ka ca aw, amih kah longpuei ah cet boel lamtah na kho te amih kah a hawn lamloh hoi lah.
16 their feet run to evil and they hurry to shed blood.
Amih kah a kho tah boethae hamla cungpoeh uh tih thii long sak ham loe uh.
17 For it is useless to spread the net in the sight of any bird.
Vaa phae boeih kah a hmaiah a tloengtlaih la lawk a tung uh.
18 These men lie in wait for their own blood— they set an ambush for their own lives.
Amih loh amamih kah a thii te a rhongngol thil uh tih a hinglu te a mae uh.
19 So are the ways of everyone who gains riches by injustice; unjust gain takes away the lives of those who hold on to it.
Mueluemnah dongah aka mueluem boeih kah a khosing te tah a boei kah a hinglu ni a rhawt pah.
20 Wisdom cries aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the open places;
Cueihnah tah vongvoel ah tamhoe tih toltung ah a ol a huel.
21 at the head of the noisy streets she cries out, at the entrance of the city gates she speaks,
Thohka ah aka kawk rhoek kah a lu ah a pang pah tih khopuei vongka ah ol a thui.
22 “How long, you naive people, will you love being naive? How long, you mockers, will you delight in mockery, and how long, you fools, will you hate knowledge?
Hlangyoe nang loh mevaeng hil nim hlangyoe na lungnah ve, hmuiyoi rhoek tah amamih kah saipaat dongah naep uh tih, aka ang rhoek loh mingnah te a hmuhuet uh.
23 Pay attention to my correction; I will pour out my thoughts to you; I will make my words known to you.
Ka toelthamnah he mael thil lah, ka mueihla he nang hamla kan thaa saeh lamtah ka ol he khaw nang kam ming sak eh.
24 I have called, and you have refused to listen; I reached out with my hand, but there was no one who paid attention.
Kang khue vaengah na aal uh tih ka kut kan cavaih vaengah nim te hnatung uh pawh.
25 But you have ignored all my instruction and paid no attention to my correction.
Kai kah cilsuep boeih te na dul uh tih, kai kah toelthamnah khaw na ngaih uh pawh.
26 I will laugh at your calamity, I will mock you when the terror comes—
Kai khaw nangmih kah rhainah te ka nueih thil vetih nangmih ah birhihnah a thoeng vaengah kan tamdaeng ni.
27 when your fearful dread comes like a storm and disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you.
Nangmih kah birhihnah tah khohli rhamrhael bangla ha pawk vetih na rhainah loh cangpalam bangla halo vaengah, citcai neh khobing loh nangmih te m'paan vaengah,
28 Then they will call upon me, and I will not answer; they will desperately call for me, but they will not find me.
Kai ng'khue uh cakhaw ka doo mahpawh, kai n'toem uh cakhaw m'hmu uh bal mahpawh.
29 Because they hate knowledge and did not choose the fear of Yahweh,
Te yueng te mingnah a hmuhuet uh tih BOEIPA kah hinyahnah te tuek uh pawh.
30 they would not follow my instruction, and they despised all my correction.
Kai cilsuep dongah naep uh pawt tih, kai kah toelthamnah khaw boeih a tlaitlaek uh.
31 They will eat the fruit of their ways, and with the fruit of their schemes they will be filled.
A khosing kah a thaih te a caak uh vetih a cilkhih loh a lawn uh bitni.
32 For the naive are killed when they turn away, and the indifference of fools will destroy them.
Hlangyoe hnuknong loh amih te a ngawn vetih aka ang kah ommongnah loh amih te a milh sak ni.
33 But whoever listens to me will live in safety and will rest secure with no fear of disaster.”
Tedae kai taengah aka hnatun long tah ngaikhuek la kho a sak vetih yoethae kah birhihnah khuiah khaw rhalthal van ni.
