< Numbers 25 >

1 Israel stayed in Shittim, and the men began to prostitute themselves with women of Moab,
Israel te Shittim ah kho a sak vaengah pilnam tah cukhalh hamla Moab nu rhoek taengah poeih uh.
2 for the Moabites had invited the people to the sacrifices to their gods. So the people ate and bowed down to Moabite gods.
Te vaengah pilnam te amih kah pathen hmueih kung la a khue uh. Te dongah pilnam loh a caak tih amih kah pathen taengah bakop uh.
3 The men of Israel joined in worshiping Baal of Peor, and Yahweh's anger was kindled against Israel.
Tedae Israel te Baalpeor neh a sun uh dongah BOEIPA kah thintoek tah Israel taengah sai.
4 Yahweh said to Moses, “Kill all the leaders of the people and hang them up before me to expose them in the daylight, so that my fierce anger may turn away from Israel.”
Te vaengah BOEIPA loh Moses te, “Pilnam kah a lu boeih te khuen lamtah amih te khosae kah BOEIPA hmai ah hoeng laeh. Te daengah ni BOEIPA kah thintoek thinsa he Israel lamloh a mael eh?,” a ti nah.
5 So Moses said to Israel's leaders, “Each of you must execute his people who have joined in worshiping Baal of Peor.”
Te dongah Moses loh Israel kah laitloek rhoek taengah, “A hlang rhoek khuiah Baalpeor taengla aka sun hlang te ngawn,” a ti nah.
6 Then one of the men of Israel came and brought among his family members a Midianite woman. This happened in the sight of Moses and all the community of the people of Israel, while they were weeping at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
Te vaengah Israel ca rhoek khui lamkah hlang pakhat te pakcak ha pawk tih a manuca rhoek taengkah Moses mikhmuh neh tingtunnah dap thohka kah aka rhap Israel ca rhaengpuei boeih kah mikhmuh ah Median nu te a khuen pah.
7 When Phinehas son of Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, saw that, he rose up from among the community and took a spear in his hand.
Khosoih Aaron capa Eleazar koca Phinekha loh a hmuh vaengah rhaengpuei lakli lamloh thoo tih a kut dongah cai a muk.
8 He followed the Israelite man into the tent and thrust the spear through both of their bodies, both the Israelite man and the woman. So a plague that God had sent on the people of Israel stopped.
Te phoeiah Israel hlang hnukah popuei khuila kun tih a boktlap la Israel tongpa neh huta te a kotak hil a thun. Te daengah lucik khaw Israel ca taeng lamloh cing.
9 Those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand in number.
Tedae lucik ah aka duek he thawng kul thawng li lo.
10 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
Te phoeiah BOEIPA loh Moses te a voek tih,
11 “Phinehas son of Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, has turned my rage away from the people of Israel because he was passionate with my zeal among them. So I have not consumed the people of Israel in my fierceness.
“Amih lakli ah ka thatlainah neh ka thatlai vaengah Khosoih Aaron capa Eleazar koca Phinekha loh ka kosi te Israel ca rhoek taeng lamkah a mael sak. Te dongah ni Israel ca rhoek te ka thatlainah neh ka khah pawh.
12 Therefore say, 'Yahweh says, “Look, I am giving to Phinehas my covenant of peace.
Te dongah thui pah, ka paipi he a taengah rhoepnah la ka paek coeng.
13 For him and his descendants after him, it will be a covenant of an everlasting priesthood because he was zealous for me, his God. He has atoned for the people of Israel.”'”
A Pathen ham a thatlai pah tih Israel ca rhoek ham a dawth pah yueng te anih ham neh amah hnukkah a tiingan ham kumhal ah khosoihbi paipi la om ni,” a ti nah.
14 Now the name of the Israelite man who was killed with the Midianite woman was Zimri son of Salu, a leader of an ancestor's family among the Simeonites.
Te vaengah Median nu neh a ngawn la a ngawn Israel hlang a ming tah, Simeon napa im kah khoboei Salu capa Zimri,

16 So Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
Te phoeiah BOEIPA loh Moses te a voek tih,
17 “Treat the Midianites as enemies and attack them,
“Median te daengdaeh lamtah amih te ngawn.
18 for they treated you like enemies with their deceitfulness. They led you into evil in the case of Peor and in the case of their sister Kozbi, the daughter of a leader in Midian, who was killed on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor.”
Amih loh nangmih te a rhaithinah neh n'daengdaeh. Peor kah ol dongah khaw Midian khoboei canu Kozbi kah ol dongah nangmih te n'rhaithi bal. Peor ol bangla a tanu te lucik hnin ah ngawn,” a ti nah.
