Numbers 23

1 Balaam said to Balak, “Build seven altars here for me and prepare seven bulls and seven rams.”

ബിലെയാം പറഞ്ഞു: “ഇവിടെ ഏഴു യാഗപീഠം പണിത്, ഏഴു കാള, ഏഴ് ആട്ടുകൊറ്റൻ എന്നിവ എനിക്കായി ഒരുക്കുക.”

2 So Balak did as Balaam requested. Then Balak and Balaam offered a bull and a ram on every altar.

ബിലെയാം പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ ബാലാക്ക് ചെയ്തു. ബാലാക്കും ബിലെയാമും ഓരോ കാള, ഓരോ ആട്ടുകൊറ്റൻ എന്നിവ ഓരോ യാഗപീഠത്തിന്മേലും അർപ്പിച്ചു.

3 Then Balaam said to Balak, “Stand at your burnt offering and I will go. Perhaps Yahweh will come to meet me. Whatever he shows me I will tell you.” So he went away to a hilltop with no trees.

പിന്നെ ബിലെയാം ബാലാക്കിനോട്: “ഞാൻ അൽപ്പം വേറിട്ടു പോകുമ്പോൾ നീ ഇവിടെ നിന്റെ ഹോമയാഗത്തിനരികെ നിൽക്കുക. പക്ഷേ, യഹോവ എന്നെ സന്ദർശിച്ചേക്കും. അവിടന്ന് എന്ത് വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നോ അതു ഞാൻ അറിയിക്കാം” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. പിന്നെ അദ്ദേഹം ഒരു മൊട്ടക്കുന്നിലേക്കു കയറിപ്പോയി.

4 While he was on the hilltop, God met him, and Balaam said to him, “I have built seven altars, and I have offered up a bull and a ram on each one.”

ദൈവം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ സന്ദർശിച്ചു. ബിലെയാം പറഞ്ഞു: “ഞാൻ ഏഴു യാഗപീഠം ഒരുക്കി, ഓരോ യാഗപീഠത്തിന്മേലും ഓരോ കാള, ഓരോ ആട്ടുകൊറ്റൻ എന്നിവ അർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.”

5 Yahweh put a message in Balaam's mouth and said, “Return to Balak and speak to him.”

യഹോവ ബിലെയാമിന്റെ നാവിൽ ഒരു ദൂത് നൽകി, “ബാലാക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്ന് ഈ ദൂത് അവനു നൽകുക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6 So Balaam returned to Balak, who was standing by his burnt offering, and all the leaders of Moab were with him.

അങ്ങനെ അദ്ദേഹം ബാലാക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം മോവാബ്യ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെല്ലാവരോടുംകൂടെ തന്റെ യാഗത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ നിൽക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

7 Then Balaam began to speak his prophecy and said, “Balak has brought me from Aram, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains. 'Come, curse Jacob for me,' he said. 'Come, defy Israel.'

അപ്പോൾ ബിലെയാം തന്റെ അരുളപ്പാട് അറിയിച്ചു: “ബാലാക്ക് അരാമിൽനിന്ന് എന്നെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു, മോവാബ് രാജാവ് പൂർവഗിരികളിൽനിന്ന് എന്നെ വരുത്തി. ‘വരിക, എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി യാക്കോബിനെ ശപിക്കുക. വരിക, ഇസ്രായേലിനെ ശപിക്കുക’

8 How can I curse those whom God has not cursed? How can I oppose those whom Yahweh does not oppose?

ദൈവം ശപിക്കാത്തവരെ ഞാൻ എങ്ങനെ ശപിക്കും? യഹോവ ശകാരിക്കാത്തവരെ ഞാൻ എങ്ങനെ ശകാരിക്കും?

9 For from the top of the rocks I see him; from the hills I look at him. See, there is a people who live alone and do not consider themselves as just an ordinary nation.

പാറക്കെട്ടുകളിൽനിന്ന് ഞാൻ അവരെ കാണുന്നു. ഗിരികളിൽനിന്ന് ഞാൻ അവരെ ദർശിക്കുന്നു. ഇതാ, വേറിട്ടു പാർക്കുന്നൊരു ജനം. അവർ ഇതര ജനതകളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിൽ എണ്ണപ്പെടുന്നില്ല.

10 Who can count the dust of Jacob or number even only one-fourth of Israel? Let me die the death of a righteous person, and let my life's end be like his!”

യാക്കോബിന്റെ പൊടിയെ ആർക്ക് എണ്ണാം? ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ കാൽഭാഗത്തെ ആർക്ക് എണ്ണാം? നീതിമാന്മാർ മരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ഞാൻ മരിക്കട്ടെ. എന്റെ അന്ത്യവും അവരുടേതുപോലെയാകട്ടെ!”

11 Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, but look, you have blessed them.”

ബാലാക്ക് ബിലെയാമിനോട്, “താങ്കൾ എന്നോടീ ചെയ്തത് എന്താണ്? എന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളെ ശപിക്കാൻ ഞാൻ താങ്കളെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവന്നു, എന്നാൽ താങ്കൾ അവരെ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുകമാത്രമാണു ചെയ്തത്!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12 Balaam answered and said, “Should I not be careful to say only what Yahweh puts in my mouth?”

അതിനു ബിലെയാം, “യഹോവ എന്റെ നാവിൽ തന്നതു ഞാൻ പറയേണ്ടതല്ലേ?” എന്നു മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു.

13 So Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place where you can see them. You will only see the nearest of them, not all of them. There you will curse them for me.”

പിന്നെ ബാലാക്ക് അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്, “താങ്കൾക്ക് അവരെ കാണാവുന്ന മറ്റൊരു സ്ഥലത്തേക്ക് എന്നോടൊപ്പം വരിക; അവരിൽ ഒരു ഭാഗത്തെമാത്രം അല്ലാതെ എല്ലാവരെയും താങ്കൾക്കു കാണാൻ കഴിയുകയില്ല. അവിടെനിന്ന് അവരെ എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി ശപിക്കുക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14 So he took Balaam into the field of Zophim, to the top of Mount Pisgah, and built seven more altars. He offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.

അങ്ങനെ ബാലാക്ക് ബിലെയാമിനെ പിസ്ഗാമലയുടെ മുകളിലുള്ള സോഫീം വയലിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി. അവിടെ അയാൾ ഏഴു യാഗപീഠങ്ങൾ നിർമിച്ച് ഓരോ പീഠത്തിന്മേലും ഓരോ കാളയെയും ഓരോ ആട്ടുകൊറ്റനെയും അർപ്പിച്ചു.

15 Then Balaam said to Balak, “Stand here by your burnt offering, while I meet with Yahweh over there.”

ബിലെയാം ബാലാക്കിനോട്: “താങ്കളുടെ ഹോമയാഗത്തിനരികെ നിൽക്കുക. ഞാൻ അവിടെ യഹോവയെ കാണട്ടെ.”

16 So Yahweh met Balaam and put a message in his mouth. He said, “Return to Balak and give him my message.”

യഹോവ ബിലെയാമിനെ സന്ദർശിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ നാവിൽ ഒരു സന്ദേശം കൊടുത്തിട്ട്, “ബാലാക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്ന് ഈ ദൂത് അവനു നൽകുക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17 Balaam returned to him, and look, he was standing by his burnt offering, and the leaders of Moab were with him. Then Balak said to him, “What has Yahweh said?”

അങ്ങനെ ബിലെയാം അയാളുടെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു; മോവാബ്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാർ എല്ലാവരോടുംകൂടെ അയാൾ തന്റെ യാഗത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ നിൽക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു. ബാലാക്ക് അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്, “യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടെന്ത്?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

18 Balaam began his prophecy. He said, “Rise up, Balak, and hear. Listen to me, you son of Zippor.

അപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹം അറിയിച്ച അരുളപ്പാട് ഇപ്രകാരമായിരുന്നു: “ബാലാക്കേ, എഴുന്നേറ്റു കേൾക്കുക, ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചുകേൾക്കുക; സിപ്പോരിന്റെ പുത്രാ, എനിക്കു ചെവിതരിക.

19 God is not a man, that he should lie, Or a human being, that he should change his mind. Has he promised anything without doing it? Has he said he would do something without carrying it out?

വ്യാജം പറയാൻ ദൈവം മനുഷ്യനല്ല, തന്റെ മനം മാറ്റാൻ മനുഷ്യപുത്രനുമല്ല. അരുളിച്ചെയ്തിട്ട് അവിടന്നു പ്രവർത്തിക്കാതിരിക്കുമോ? വാക്കു പറഞ്ഞിട്ട് നിറവേറ്റാതിരിക്കുമോ?

20 Look, I have been commanded to bless. God has given a blessing, and I cannot reverse it.

അനുഗ്രഹിക്കാനുള്ളൊരു കൽപ്പന എനിക്കു ലഭിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. അവിടന്ന് അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു, എനിക്കതു മാറ്റിക്കൂടാ.

21 He has seen no hardship in Jacob or trouble in Israel. Yahweh their God is with them, and shouts for their king are among them.

“അത്യാഹിതം യാക്കോബിൽ കാണാനില്ല. ദുരിതം ഇസ്രായേലിൽ ദർശിക്കാനുമില്ല. യഹോവയായ അവരുടെ ദൈവം അവരോടുകൂടെയുണ്ട്. രാജാവിന്റെ ഗർജനം അവരുടെ മധ്യേയുണ്ട്.

22 God brought them out of Egypt with strength like that of a wild ox.

ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽനിന്ന് ദൈവം അവരെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; ഒരു കാട്ടുകാളയുടെ കരുത്ത് അവർക്കുണ്ട്.

23 There is no sorcery that works against Jacob, and no fortune-telling harms Israel. Instead, it must be said about Jacob and Israel, 'Look what God has done!'

യാക്കോബിനെതിരേ ആഭിചാരം ഫലിക്കുകയില്ല, ഇസ്രായേലിനെതിരായി ലക്ഷണവിദ്യയുമില്ല. യാക്കോബിനെയും ഇസ്രായേലിനെയുംപറ്റി, ഇപ്പോൾ ‘ദൈവം ചെയ്തതെന്തെന്നു കാണുക!’ എന്നു പറയപ്പെടും.

24 Look, the people rise like a lioness, as a lion emerges and attacks. He does not lie down until he eats his victim and drinks the blood of what he has killed.”

ആ ജനം സിംഹിയെപ്പോലെ ഉണരുന്നു; അവർ സിംഹത്തെപ്പോലെ എഴുന്നേൽക്കുന്നു. അവർ തന്റെ ഇരയെ വിഴുങ്ങുകയും ആ കൊലയാളികളുടെ രക്തം കുടിക്കുകയുംചെയ്യുന്നതുവരെ വിശ്രമിക്കുകയില്ല.”

25 Then Balak said to Balaam, “Do not curse them or bless them at all.”

അപ്പോൾ ബാലാക്ക് ബിലെയാമിനോട്: “അവരെ ശപിക്കുകയും വേണ്ട, അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുകയും വേണ്ട!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

26 But Balaam answered and said to Balak, “Did I not tell you that I must say all that Yahweh tells me to say?”

ബിലെയാം മറുപടിയായി, “യഹോവ എന്തു കൽപ്പിച്ചാലും ഞാൻ അതു ചെയ്യും എന്നു ഞാൻ താങ്കളോടു പറഞ്ഞില്ലേ?” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27 So Balak replied to Balaam, “Come now, I will take you to another place. Perhaps it will please God for you to curse them there for me.”

ഇതിനുശേഷം ബാലാക്ക് ബിലെയാമിനോട്, “വരിക, ഞാൻ താങ്കളെ മറ്റൊരു സ്ഥലത്തേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോകാം. ഒരുപക്ഷേ അവിടെനിന്ന് എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി അവരെ ശപിക്കേണ്ടതിനു നിന്നെ അനുവദിക്കാൻ ദൈവത്തിനു പ്രസാദമായേക്കും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

28 So Balak took Balaam to the top of Mount Peor, which looks down on the wilderness.

അങ്ങനെ ബാലാക്ക് ബിലെയാമിനെ മരുഭൂമിക്ക് എതിരേയുള്ള പെയോർമലയുടെ മുകളിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

29 Balaam said to Balak, “Build me seven altars here and prepare seven bulls and seven rams.”

ബിലെയാം പറഞ്ഞു: “ഇവിടെ ഏഴു യാഗപീഠം പണിത് ഏഴു കാളകളെയും ഏഴ് ആട്ടുകൊറ്റനെയും എനിക്കായി ഒരുക്കുക.”

30 So Balak did as Balaam had said; he offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.
