Nehemiah 7
1 When the wall was finished and I had set up the doors in place, and the gatekeepers and singers and Levites had been appointed,

2 I gave my brother Hanani charge over Jerusalem, along with Hananiah who had oversight of the fortress, for he was a faithful man and feared God more than many.
tôi giao cho Ha-na-ni là em tôi, và Ha-na-nia, là quan trấn thủ thành lũy lo việc cai trị Giê-ru-sa-lem. Ha-na-nia là một người trung thực và kính sợ Đức Chúa Trời hơn nhiều người khác.
3 I said to them, “Do not open the gates of Jerusalem until the sun is hot. While the gatekeepers are on guard, you may shut the doors and bar them. Appoint guards from those who live in Jerusalem, some at the place of their guard station, and some in front of their own homes.”
Tôi dặn họ chỉ mở cổng thành khi mặt trời đã lên cao, đóng cổng cài then khi lính còn đang còn đứng gác. Phải chọn người dân Giê-ru-sa-lem làm lính gác, cắt đặt phiên gác cho mỗi người, và cho ai nấy được gác đoạn tường thành gần nhà mình.
4 Now the city was wide and large, but there were few people within it, and no houses had yet been rebuilt.
Vào thời gian đó, thành thì rộng lớn, dân cư ít ỏi, nhà cửa thưa thớt.
5 My God put into my heart to gather together the nobles, the officials, and the people to enroll them by their families. I found the book of the genealogy of those who returned at the first and found the following written in it.
Đức Chúa Trời giục lòng tôi triệu tập các nhà lãnh đạo và toàn dân lại để đăng bộ. Và tôi cũng tìm được một sách chép gia phả của những người trở về Giu-đa đợt thứ nhất. Sách ấy có ghi:
6 “These are the people of the province who went up out of the captivity of those exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon took into exile. They returned to Jerusalem and to Judah, each to his city.
Đây là tên những người trở về Giê-ru-sa-lem và Giu-đa, sau thời gian bị Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa, vua Ba-by-lôn, bắt đi lưu đày:
7 They came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel included the following.
Các nhà lãnh đạo gồm có: Xô-rô-ba-bên, Giê-sua, Nê-hê-mi, A-xa-ria, Ra-a-nia, Na-ha-ma-ni, Mạc-đô-chê, Binh-san, Mích-bê-rết, Biết-vai, Nê-hum, và Ba-a-na. Những người Ít-ra-ên hồi hương gồm có:
8 The descendants of Parosh, 2,172.

9 The descendants of Shephatiah, 372.

60 All the temple servants, and the descendants of Solomon's servants, were 392.

61 These were the people who went up from Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Kerub, Addon, and Immer. But they could not prove that they or their ancestors' families were descendants from Israel:
Có một số người từ Tên Mê-la, Tên Hạt-sa, Kê-rúp, A-đôn, và Y-mê trở về Giê-ru-sa-lem, nhưng không còn gia phả hay bằng cớ về căn nguyên tông tộc để chứng minh mình là người Ít-ra-ên. Những người này gồm có:
62 the descendants of Delaiah, the descendants of Tobiah, and the descendants of Nekoda, 642.

63 Those who were from the priests: the descendants of Habaiah, Hakkoz, and Barzillai (who took his wife from the daughters of Barzillai of Gilead and was called by their name).

64 These sought their records among those enrolled by their genealogy, but they could not be found, so they were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.

65 Then the governor said to them that they should not be allowed to eat the priests' share of food from the sacrifices until there rose up a priest with Urim and Thummim.
vì vị tổng trấn muốn chờ đến khi có một thầy tế lễ có thể dùng U-rim và Thu-mim để cầu hỏi Đức Chúa Trời.
66 The whole assembly together was 42,360,
Tổng số các nhóm kể trên lên đến 42.360 người.
67 besides their male servants and their female servants, of whom there were 7,337. They had 245 singing men and women.
Ngoài ra, có 7.337 gia nhân, và 245 ca sĩ, cả nam lẫn nữ.
68 Their horses were 736 in number, their mules, 245,
Họ đem theo 736 con ngựa, 245 con la,
69 their camels, 435, and their donkeys, 6,720.

70 Some from among the heads of ancestors' families gave gifts for the work. The governor gave to the treasury one thousand darics of gold, 50 basins, and 530 priestly garments.

71 Some of the heads of ancestors' families gave into the treasury for the work twenty thousand darics of gold and 2,200 minas of silver.

72 The rest of the people gave twenty thousand darics of gold, and two thousand minas of silver, and sixty-seven priestly garments.

73 So the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, some of the people, the temple servants, and all Israel lived in their cities. By the seventh month the people of Israel were settled in their cities.”
Vậy, các thầy tế lễ, người Lê-vi, người gác cổng, ca sĩ, người phục dịch Đền Thờ, và tất cả những người Ít-ra-ên khác trở về sinh sống trong thành mình. Đến tháng bảy, người Ít-ra-ên từ các thành về tụ họp tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.
