Nehemiah 6
1 Now when Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian and the rest of our enemies heard that I had rebuilt the wall and that there were no longer any sections left broken open, although I had not yet set up the doors in the gates,
Und da Saneballat, Tobia und Gosem, der Araber, und andere unserer Feinde erfuhren, daß ich die Mauer gebauet hatte, und keine Lücke mehr dran wäre, wiewohl ich die Türen zu der Zeit noch nicht gehänget hatte in den Toren,
2 Sanballat and Geshem sent to me saying, “Come, let us meet together somewhere in the plain of Ono.” But they intended to do harm to me.
sandte Saneballat und Gosem zu mir und ließen mir sagen: Komm und laß uns zusammenkommen in den Dörfern, in der Fläche Ono. Sie gedachten mir aber Böses zu tun.
3 I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work, and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?”
Ich aber sandte Boten zu ihnen und ließ ihn sagen: Ich habe ein groß Geschäft auszurichten, ich kann nicht hinabkommen; es möchte das Werk nachbleiben, wo ich die Hand abtäte und zu euch hinabzöge.
4 They sent me the same message four times, and I answered them the same way each time.
Sie sandten aber wohl viermal zu mir auf die Weise, und ich antwortete ihnen auf diese Weise.
5 Sanballat sent his servant to me in the same way the fifth time, with an open letter in his hand.
Da sandte Saneballat zum fünftenmal zu mir seinen Knaben mit einem offenen Briefe in seiner Hand.
6 In it was written, “It is reported among the nations, and Geshem also says it, that you and the Jews are planning to rebel, for that is why you are rebuilding the wall. From what these reports say, you are about to become their king.
Darinnen war geschrieben: Es ist vor die Heiden kommen, und Gosem hat es gesagt, daß du und die Juden gedenket abzufallen, darum du die Mauer bauest, und du wollest ihr König sein in diesen Sachen;
7 You have also appointed prophets to make this proclamation about you in Jerusalem, saying, 'There is a king in Judah!' You can be sure the king will hear these reports. Therefore come, let us speak with one another.”
und du habest dir Propheten bestellet, die von dir ausschreien sollen zu Jerusalem und sagen: Er ist der König Judas. Nun, solches wird vor den König kommen. So komm nun und laß uns miteinander ratschlagen.
8 Then I sent word to him saying, “No such things have occurred as you say, for within your heart you invented them.”
Ich aber sandte zu ihm und ließ ihm sagen: Solches ist nicht geschehen, das du sagest; du hast es aus deinem Herzen erdacht.
9 For they all wanted to make us afraid, thinking, “They will drop their hands from doing the work, and it will not be done.” But now, God, please strengthen my hands.
Denn sie alle wollten uns furchtsam machen und gedachten: Sie sollen die Hand abtun vom Geschäfte, daß sie nicht arbeiten. Aber ich stärkte desto mehr meine Hand.
10 I went to the house of Shemaiah son of Delaiah son of Mehetabel, who was confined in his home. He said, “Let us meet together in the house of God, inside the temple, and let us close the doors of the temple, for they are coming to kill you. At night they are coming to kill you.”
Und ich kam ins Haus Semajas, des Sohns Delajas, des Sohns Mehetabeels; und er hatte sich verschlossen und sprach: Laß uns zusammenkommen im Hause Gottes mitten im Tempel und die Türen des Tempels zuschließen; denn sie werden kommen, dich zu erwürgen, und werden bei der Nacht kommen, daß sie dich erwürgen.
11 I replied, “Would a man like me run away? Would a man like me go into the temple just so he could save his own life? I will not go in!”
Ich aber sprach: Sollte ein solcher Mann fliehen? Sollte ein solcher Mann, wie ich bin, in den Tempel gehen, daß er lebendig bliebe? Ich will nicht hineingehen.
12 I realized that it was not God who sent him, but that he had prophesied against me. Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
Denn ich merkte, daß ihn Gott nicht gesandt hatte. Denn er sagte wohl Weissagung auf mich, aber Tobia und Saneballat hatten ihm Geld gegeben.
13 They hired him to make me afraid, so that I might do what he said and sin, so they could give me a bad name in order to humiliate me.
Darum nahm er Geld, auf daß ich mich fürchten sollte und also tun und sündigen, daß sie ein bös Geschrei hätten, damit sie mich lästern möchten.
14 Call to mind Tobiah and Sanballat, my God, and all that they did. Also call to mind the prophetess Noadiah and the rest of the prophets who tried to make me be afraid.
Gedenke, mein Gott, des Tobia und Saneballat nach diesen seinen Werken; auch der Prophetin Noadja und der andern Propheten, die mich wollten abschrecken.
15 So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of the month of Elul, after fifty-two days.
Und die Mauer ward fertig am fünfundzwanzigsten Tage des Monden Elul, in zweiundfünfzig Tagen.
16 When all our enemies heard of it, all the nations around us, they became afraid and they fell greatly in their own eyes. For they knew the work was done with the help of our God.
Und da alle unsere Feinde das höreten, fürchteten sich alle Heiden, die um uns her waren, und der Mut entfiel ihnen; denn sie merkten, daß dies Werk von Gott war.
17 At this time the nobles of Judah sent many letters to Tobiah, and Tobiah's letters came to them.
Auch zu derselben Zeit waren viel der Obersten Judas, deren Briefe gingen zu Tobia und von Tobia zu ihnen.
18 For there were many in Judah who were bound by an oath to him, because he was the son-in-law of Shecaniah son of Arah. His son Jehohanan had taken as his wife the daughter of Meshullam son of Berechiah.
Denn ihrer waren viel in Juda, die ihm geschworen waren; denn er war ein Schwager Sachanjas, des Sohns Arahs, und sein Sohn Johanan hatte die Tochter Mesullams, des Sohns Berechjas.
19 They also spoke to me about his good deeds and reported my words back to him. Letters were sent to me from Tobiah to frighten me.
Und sagten Gutes von ihm vor mir und brachten meine Rede aus zu ihm. So sandte denn Tobia Briefe, mich abzuschrecken.
