Matthew 4
1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
এরপর যীশু পবিত্র আত্মার দ্বারা চালিত হয়ে মরুপ্রান্তরে গেলেন, যেন দিয়াবলের দ্বারা প্রলোভিত হতে পারেন।
2 When he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
চল্লিশ দিন ও চল্লিশ রাত উপোস করার পর তিনি ক্ষুধার্ত হলেন।
3 The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.”
তখন প্রলুব্ধকারী তাঁর কাছে এসে বলল, “তুমি যদি ঈশ্বরের পুত্র হও, এই পাথরগুলিকে রুটি হয়ে যেতে বলো।”
4 But Jesus answered and said to him, “It is written, 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God.'”
যীশু উত্তর দিলেন, “এরকম লেখা আছে, ‘মানুষ কেবলমাত্র রুটিতে বাঁচে না, বরং ঈশ্বরের মুখ থেকে নির্গত প্রত্যেকটি বাক্য দ্বারাই জীবনধারণ করবে।’”
5 Then the devil took him into the holy city and set him on the highest point of the temple building,
তখন দিয়াবল তাঁকে পবিত্র নগরে নিয়ে গেল এবং মন্দিরের শীর্ষদেশে তাঁকে দাঁড় করালো।
6 and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, 'He will command his angels to take care of you,' and, 'They will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not hit your foot against a stone.'”
সে বলল, “তুমি যদি ঈশ্বরের পুত্র হও, তবে এখান থেকে নিচে ঝাঁপ দাও, কারণ এরকম লেখা আছে: “‘তিনি তাঁর দূতদের তোমার বিষয়ে আদেশ দেবেন, আর তাঁরা তোমাকে তাঁদের হাতে তুলে নেবেন, যেন তোমার পায়ে পাথরের আঘাত না লাগে।’”
7 Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, 'You must not test the Lord your God.'”
যীশু তাকে উত্তর দিলেন, “আবার একথাও লেখা আছে, ‘তোমার ঈশ্বর প্রভুকে পরীক্ষা কোরো না।’”
8 Again, the devil took him up to a very high hill and showed him all the kingdoms of the world along with all their splendor.
দিয়াবল পুনরায় তাঁকে অতি উচ্চ এক পর্বতে নিয়ে গেল এবং জগতের সমস্ত রাজ্য ও সেগুলির সমারোহ তাঁকে দেখিয়ে বলল,
9 He said to him, “All these things I will give you, if you fall down and worship me.”
“তুমি যদি ভূমিষ্ঠ হয়ে আমার উপাসনা করো, এ সমস্ত আমি তোমাকে দেব।”
10 Then Jesus said to him, “Go away from here, Satan! For it is written, 'You will worship the Lord your God, and you will serve only him.'”
যীশু তাকে বললেন, “আমার কাছ থেকে দূর হও শয়তান! কারণ এরকম লেখা আছে, ‘তুমি তোমার ঈশ্বর প্রভুরই আরাধনা করবে, কেবলমাত্র তাঁরই সেবা করবে।’”
11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and served him.
তখন দিয়াবল তাঁকে ছেড়ে চলে গেল, আর স্বর্গদূতেরা এসে তাঁর পরিচর্যা করতে লাগলেন।
12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee.
যীশু যখন শুনলেন যে যোহনকে কারাগারে বন্দি করা হয়েছে, তিনি গালীলে ফিরে গেলেন।
13 He left Nazareth and went and lived in Capernaum, which is by the Sea of Galilee, in the territories of Zebulun and Naphtali.
তিনি নাসরৎ ত্যাগ করে কফরনাহূমে গিয়ে বসবাস করতে লাগলেন। সেই স্থানটি ছিল সবূলূন ও নপ্তালি অঞ্চলে, হ্রদের উপকূলে।
14 This happened to fulfill what was said by Isaiah the prophet,
এরকম ঘটল, যেন ভাববাদী যিশাইয়ের মাধ্যমে কথিত বচন পূর্ণ হয়:
15 “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, toward the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles!
“সমুদ্রের অভিমুখে, জর্ডনের অপর পারে, সবূলূন দেশ ও নপ্তালি দেশ, গালীলের অইহুদি জাতিবৃন্দের—
16 The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and to those who sat in the region and shadow of death, upon them has a light arisen.”
যে জাতি অন্ধকারে বসবাস করত, তারা এক মহাজ্যোতি দেখতে পেল; মৃত্যুচ্ছায়ার দেশে যাদের বসবাস ছিল, তাদের উপরে এক জ্যোতির উদয় হল।”
17 From that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”
সেই সময় থেকে যীশু প্রচার করা শুরু করলেন, “মন পরিবর্তন করো, কারণ স্বর্গরাজ্য সন্নিকট।”
18 As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.
গালীল সাগরের তীর ধরে হেঁটে যাওয়ার সময় যীশু দুই ভাইকে দেখতে পেলেন, শিমোন যাঁকে পিতর নামে ডাকা হত ও তাঁর ভাই আন্দ্রিয়। তাঁরা সাগরের জলে জাল ফেলছিলেন, কারণ তাঁরা ছিলেন মৎস্যজীবী।
19 Jesus said to them, “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
যীশু বললেন, “এসো, আমাকে অনুসরণ করো, আমি তোমাদের মানুষ-ধরা জেলে করব।”
20 Immediately they left the nets and followed him.
সেই মুহূর্তেই তাঁরা জাল ফেলে তাঁকে অনুসরণ করলেন।
21 As Jesus was going on from there he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee, and John his brother. They were in the boat with Zebedee their father mending their nets. He called them,
সেখান থেকে এগিয়ে গিয়ে তিনি অপর দুই ভাইকে, সিবদিয়ের ছেলে যাকোব ও তাঁর ভাই যোহনকে দেখতে পেলেন। তাঁরা তাঁদের বাবা সিবদিয়ের সঙ্গে একটি নৌকায় তাঁদের জাল মেরামত করছিলেন। যীশু তাঁদের আহ্বান করলেন।
22 and they immediately left the boat and their father and followed him.
সঙ্গে সঙ্গে তাঁরা নৌকা ও তাঁদের বাবাকে পরিত্যাগ করে তাঁর অনুসারী হলেন।
23 Jesus went about in all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and sickness among the people.
যীশু সমস্ত গালীল পরিক্রমা করে তাদের সমাজভবনগুলিতে শিক্ষা দিলেন ও স্বর্গরাজ্যের সুসমাচার প্রচার করলেন। তিনি লোকদের সমস্ত রকমের রোগব্যাধি ও পীড়া থেকে সুস্থ করলেন।
24 The news about him went out into all of Syria, and the people brought to him all those who were sick, ill with various diseases and pains, those possessed by demons, and the epileptic and paralytic. Jesus healed them.
তাঁর সংবাদ সমস্ত সিরিয়ায় ছড়িয়ে পড়ল। লোকেরা তাঁর কাছে বিভিন্ন রোগে আক্রান্ত অসুস্থদের, যারা প্রচণ্ড যন্ত্রণায় কষ্ট পাচ্ছিল তাদের, ভূতগ্রস্তদের, মৃগী-রোগীদের ও পক্ষাঘাতগ্রস্ত ব্যক্তিদের নিয়ে এল। তিনি তাদের সুস্থ করলেন।
25 Large crowds followed him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.
গালীল, ডেকাপলি, জেরুশালেম, যিহূদিয়া ও জর্ডন নদীর অপর পারের অঞ্চল থেকে আগত বিস্তর লোক তাঁকে অনুসরণ করল।
