Matthew 20
1 For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.
Pois o reino dos céus é semelhante a um homem, dono de propriedade, que saiu de madrugada para empregar trabalhadores para a sua vinha.
2 After he had agreed with the workers for one denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
Ele entrou em acordo com os trabalhadores por um denário ao dia, e os mandou à sua vinha.
3 He went out again about the third hour and saw other workers standing idle in the marketplace.
E quando saiu perto da hora terceira, viu outros que estavam desocupados na praça.
4 To them he said, 'You also, go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.' So they went to work.
Então disse-lhes: “Ide vós também à vinha, e vos darei o que for justo”. E eles foram.
5 Again he went out about the sixth hour and again the ninth hour, and did the same.
Saindo novamente perto da hora sexta e nona, fez o mesmo.
6 Once more about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing idle. He said to them, 'Why do you stand here idle all the day long?'
E quando saiu perto da décima primeira [hora], achou outros que [ali] estavam, e lhes perguntou: “Por que estais aqui o dia todo desocupados?”
7 They said to him, 'Because no one has hired us.' He said to them, 'You also go into the vineyard.'
Eles lhe disseram: “Porque ninguém nos empregou”. Ele lhes respondeu: “Ide vós também à vinha”.
8 When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his manager, 'Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning from the last to the first.'
E chegando o anoitecer, o senhor da vinha disse ao seu mordomo: “Chama aos trabalhadores, e paga-lhes o salário, começando dos últimos, até os primeiros”.
9 When the workers who had been hired at the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius.
Então vieram os de cerca da hora décima primeira, e receberam um denário cada um.
10 When the first workers came, they thought that they would receive more, but they also received one denarius each.
Quando os primeiros vieram, pensavam que receberiam mais; porém eles também receberam um denário cada um.
11 When they received their wages, they complained about the landowner.
Assim, ao receberem, murmuraram contra o chefe de casa,
12 They said, 'These last workers have spent only one hour in work, but you have made them equal to us, we who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.'
dizendo: “Estes últimos trabalharam uma única hora, e tu os igualaste conosco, que suportamos a carga e o calor do dia”.
13 But the owner answered and said to one of them, 'Friend, I do you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for one denarius?
Ele, porém, respondeu a um deles: “Amigo, nada de errado estou fazendo contigo. Não concordaste tu comigo por um denário?
14 Take what belongs to you and go your way. I choose to give to these last hired workers just the same as to you.
Toma o que é teu, e vai embora; e quero dar a este último tanto quanto a ti.
15 Do I not have the right to do as I want with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?'
Acaso não me é lícito fazer do que é meu o que eu quiser? Ou o teu olho é mau, porque eu sou bom?”
16 So the last will be first, and the first last.”
Assim os últimos serão primeiros; e os primeiros, últimos.
17 As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve aside, and on the way he said to them,
E quando Jesus estava para subir a Jerusalém, tomou consigo os doze discípulos à parte, e no caminho lhes disse:
18 “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes. They will condemn him to death
Eis que estamos subindo a Jerusalém, e o Filho do homem será entregue aos chefes dos sacerdotes e aos escribas, e o condenarão à morte.
19 and will deliver him to the Gentiles for them to mock, to flog, and to crucify him. But on the third day he will be raised up.”
E o entregarão aos gentios, para que dele escarneçam, e o açoitem, e crucifiquem; mas ao terceiro dia será ressuscitado.
20 Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to Jesus with her sons. She bowed down before him and asked for something from him.
Então se aproximou dele a mãe dos filhos de Zebedeu, com os seus filhos. Ela o adorou para lhe pedir algo.
21 Jesus said to her, “What do you wish?” She said to him, “Command that these my two sons may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left hand, in your kingdom.”
E ele lhe perguntou: O que queres? Ela lhe disse: Dá ordem para que estes meus dois filhos se sentem, um à direita e outro à esquerda, no teu Reino.
22 But Jesus answered and said, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.”
Porém Jesus respondeu: Não sabeis o que pedis. Podeis vós beber o cálice que eu beberei? Eles lhe disseram: Podemos.
23 He said to them, “My cup you will indeed drink. But to sit at my right hand and at my left hand is not mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.”
E ele lhes disse: De fato meu cálice bebereis; mas sentar-se à minha direita, e à minha esquerda, não me cabe concedê-lo, mas [será] para os que por meu Pai está preparado.
24 When the other ten disciples heard this, they were very angry with the two brothers.
E quando os dez ouviram [isso], indignaram-se contra os dois irmãos.
25 But Jesus called them to himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles subjugate them, and their important men exercise authority over them.
Então Jesus os chamou a si, e disse: Vós bem sabeis que os chefes dos gentios os dominam, e os grandes usam de autoridade sobre eles.
26 But it must not be this way among you. Instead, whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant,
Mas não é assim entre vós. Ao contrário, quem quiser se tornar grande entre vós será o vosso assistente;
27 and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your servant,
e quem quiser ser o primeiro entre vós será o vosso servo;
28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
assim como o Filho do homem não veio para ser servido, mas sim para servir, e para dar a sua vida em resgate por muitos.
29 As they went out from Jericho, a great crowd followed him.
Quando eles saíram de Jericó, uma grande multidão o seguiu.
30 There were two blind men sitting by the road. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us.”
E eis que dois cegos assentados junto ao caminho, ao ouvirem que Jesus passava, clamaram: Senhor, Filho de Davi, tem misericórdia de nós!
31 The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be quiet, but they cried out even more loudly, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us.”
E a multidão os repreendia, para que se calassem, mas eles clamavam ainda mais: Senhor, Filho de Davi, tem misericórdia de nós!
32 Then Jesus stood still and called to them and said, “What do you wish me to do for you?”
Então Jesus parou, chamou-os, e perguntou: Que quereis que eu vos faça?
33 They said to him, “Lord, that our eyes may be opened.”
Eles lhe responderam: Senhor, que nossos olhos sejam abertos.
34 Then Jesus, being moved with compassion, touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.
E Jesus, compadecido deles, tocou-lhes os olhos. E logo os olhos deles enxergaram, e o seguiram.
