< Mark 2 >
1 When he came back to Capernaum after a few days, it was heard that he was at home.
Et iterum intravit Capharnaum post dies octo,
2 So many gathered there that there was no more space, not even at the door, and Jesus spoke the word to them.
et auditum est quod in domo esset, et convenerunt multi, ita ut non caperet neque ad ianuam, et loquebatur eis verbum.
3 Then some men came to him who were bringing a paralyzed man; four people were carrying him.
Et venerunt ad eum ferentes paralyticum, qui a quattuor portabatur.
4 When they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof that was above Jesus, and after they made an opening, they lowered the bed the paralyzed man was lying on.
Et cum non possent offerre eum illi prae turba, nudaverunt tectum ubi erat: et patefacientes submiserunt grabatum, in quo paralyticus iacebat.
5 Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Cum autem vidisset Iesus fidem illorum, ait paralytico: Fili, dimittuntur tibi peccata tua.
6 Now some of the scribes were sitting there, and they reasoned in their hearts,
Erant autem illic quidam de Scribis sedentes, et cogitantes in cordibus suis:
7 “How can this man speak this way? He blasphemes! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
Quid hic sic loquitur? blasphemat. Quis potest dimittere peccata, nisi solus Deus?
8 Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit what they were thinking among themselves. He said to them, “Why are you thinking this in your hearts?
Quo statim cognito Iesus spiritu suo quia sic cogitarent intra se, dicit illis: Quid ista cogitatis in cordibus vestris?
9 What is easier to say to the paralyzed man, 'Your sins are forgiven' or to say 'Get up, take up your bed, and walk'?
Quid est facilius dicere paralytico: Dimittuntur tibi peccata: an dicere: Surge, tolle grabatum tuum, et ambula?
10 But in order that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins,” he said to the paralytic,
Ut autem sciatis quia Filius hominis habet potestatem in terra dimittendi peccata, (ait paralytico)
11 “I say to you, get up, take up your mat, and go to your house.”
tibi dico: Surge, tolle grabatum tuum, et vade in domum tuam.
12 He got up and immediately took up the mat, and went out of the house in front of everyone, so that they were all amazed and they gave glory to God, and they said, “We never saw anything like this.”
Et statim surrexit ille: et, sublato grabato, abiit inde coram omnibus, ita ut mirarentur omnes, et honorificent Deum, dicentes: Quia numquam sic vidimus.
13 He went out again by the lake, and all the crowd came to him, and he taught them.
Et egressus est rursus ad mare: omnisque turba veniebat ad eum, et docebat eos.
14 As he passed by, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector's tent and he said to him, “Follow me.” He got up and followed him.
Et cum praeteriret, vidit Levi Alphaei sedentem ad telonium, et ait illi: Sequere me. Et surgens secutus est eum.
15 Jesus was having a meal in Levi's house and many tax collectors and sinful people were dining with him and his disciples, for there were many and they followed him.
Et factum est, cum accumberet in domo illius, multi publicani, et peccatores simul discumbebant cum Iesu, et discipulis eius: erant enim multi, qui sequebantur eum.
16 When the scribes, who were Pharisees, saw that Jesus was eating with the sinful people and tax collectors, they said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinful people?”
Et Scribae, et Pharisaei videntes quia manducaret cum publicanis, et peccatoribus, dixerunt discipulis eius: Quare cum publicanis, et peccatoribus manducat et bibit Magister vester?
17 When Jesus heard this he said to them, “People who are strong in body do not need a physician; only people who are sick need one. I did not come to call righteous people, but sinful people.”
Hoc audito Iesus ait illis: Non necesse habent sani medico, sed qui malehabent: non enim veni vocare iustos, sed peccatores.
18 Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and said to him, “Why do John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?”
Et erant discipuli Ioannis, et Pharisaei ieiunantes: et veniunt, et dicunt illi: Quare discipuli Ioannis, et Pharisaeorum ieiunant, tui autem discipuli non ieiunant?
19 Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding attendants fast while the bridegroom is still with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
Et ait illis Iesus: Numquid possunt filii nuptiarum, quamdiu sponsus cum illis est, ieiunare? Quanto tempore habent secum sponsum, non possunt ieiunare.
20 But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and in those days, they will fast.
Venient autem dies cum auferetur ab eis sponsus: et tunc ieiunabunt in illis diebus.
21 No man sews a piece of new cloth on an old garment, otherwise the patch will tear away from it, the new from the old, and there will be a worse tear.
Nemo assumentum panni rudis assuit vestimento veteri: alioquin aufert supplementum novum a veteri, et maior scissura fit.
22 No man puts new wine into old wineskins, otherwise the wine will burst the skins and both the wine and the wineskins will be lost. Instead, put new wine into fresh wineskins.”
Et nemo mittit vinum novum in utres veteres: alioquin dirumpet vinum utres, et vinum effundetur, et utres peribunt: sed vinum novum in utres novos mitti debet.
23 On the Sabbath day Jesus went through some grainfields, and his disciples began to pick heads of grain.
Et factum est iterum Dominus sabbatis ambularet per sata, discipuli eius coeperunt progredi, et vellere spicas.
24 The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing something that is not lawful on the Sabbath day?”
Pharisaei autem dicebant ei: Ecce, quid faciunt discipuli tui sabbatis quod non licet?
25 He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and hungry—he and the men who were with him—
Et ait illis: Numquam legistis quid fecerit David, quando necessitatem habuit, et esuriit ipse, et qui cum eo erant?
26 how he went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the bread of the presence, which it is unlawful for anyone to eat except the priests, and he even gave some to those who were with him?”
quomodo introivit in domum Dei sub Abiathar principe sacerdotum, et panes propositionis manducavit, quos non licebat manducare, nisi solis sacerdotibus, et dedit eis, qui cum eo erant?
27 Jesus said, “The Sabbath was made for mankind, not mankind for the Sabbath.
Et dicebat eis: Sabbatum propter hominem factum est, et non homo propter sabbatum.
28 Therefore, the Son of Man is Lord, even of the Sabbath.”
Itaque Dominus est filius hominis, etiam sabbati.
