< Luke 16 >

1 Jesus also said to the disciples, “There was a certain rich man who had a manager, and it was reported to him that this manager was wasting his possessions.
Yesuusi ba tamaaretakko, “Issi dure uraas iyappe garssara issi shuumay de7ees. He shuumay ba godaa shaluwa toochchees yaagiya worey keethaawa gakkis.
2 So the rich man called him and said to him, 'What is this that I hear about you? Give an account of your management, for you can no longer be manager.'
Keethaaway shuumaa xeegisidi, ‘Taani woygiyabaa si7adinaa? Hizappe neeni ta keethas shuuma gidada oothanaw dandda7onna gisho ta shaluwa taw sheedhdha’ yaagis.
3 The manager said to himself, 'What should I do, since my master is taking away my management job? I do not have strength to dig, and I am ashamed to beg.
“He shuumaykka ba wozanan hayssada yaagidi qoppis. ‘Ta goday tana shuumatethaafe wothana hanees, goya aqanaw wolqqi baawa, woossa maanaw yeellayees; yaatin ta waano?
4 I know what I will do, so that when I am removed from my management job, people will welcome me into their houses.'
Shuumatethaafe ta wodhdhiya wode asay tana mokkana mela oothanabaa ta erays’ yaagis.
5 Then the manager called for each one of his master's debtors, and he asked the first one, 'How much do you owe to my master?'
“Hessa gisho, iya godaa acoy de7iya asaa issuwa issuwa xeegi ehidi koyro uraakko, ‘Ne bolla ta godaa acoy ay meli de7ii?’ yaagidi oychchis.
6 He said, 'A hundred baths of olive oil.' He said to him, 'Take your bill, sit down quickly, and write fifty.'
“I, ‘Laatamu barmeele zayte acoy de7ees’ yaagis. “Shuumay, ‘Wule warqattiya he7e, ellesada, tammu barmeele zayte acoy de7ees gada xaafa’ yaagis.
7 Then the manager said to another, 'How much do you owe?' He said, 'A hundred cors of wheat.' He said to him, 'Take your bill, and write eighty.'
“Hessafe kaallidi nam77anthuwako, ‘New aappuni de7ii?’ yaagis. “I, ‘370 kunttaale gistte acoy de7ees’ yaagis. “Shuumay, “Ne wule warqattiya he7e, ellesada, 296 kunttaale yaagada xaafa’ yaagis.
8 The master then commended the unrighteous manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the children of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own people than are the children of light. (aiōn g165)
Keethaaway ammanettiboonna shuumaa iya bilaamatethaas nashshis. Ha alamiya nayti ase oythan poo7o naytappe aadhdhida wozanaamata. (aiōn g165)
9 I say to you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when it is gone, they may welcome you into the eternal dwellings. (aiōnios g166)
“Hessa gisho, ta hinttew odays; ha alamiya miishey wuriya wode merinaa keethan mokettana mela ha miishiyara hinttew laggeta shammite. (aiōnios g166)
10 He who is faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and he who is unrighteous in very little is also unrighteous in much.
Ubbaafe guuthaban ammanettiday daroban ammanettidayssa gidees. Qassi ubbaafe guuthaban ammanettonnayssi daroban ammanettenna.
11 If you have not been faithful in using unrighteous wealth, who will trust you with true wealth?
Hiza, ha alamiya miishen hintte ammanettonna ixxiko tuma miishe hinttew ooni hadara immanee?
12 If you have not been faithful in using other people's property, who will give you money of your own?
Hintte hara asa miishen ammanettonna ixxiko, hintte buzo miishe hinttew ooni immanee?”
13 No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”
“Issi aylley nam77u godatas haarettanaw dandda7enna. Issuwa ixxiko hankkuwa dosees woykko issuwako shiiqikko hankkuwa kadhees. Hessadakka, hintte Xoossasinne miishes haarettanaw dandda7ekketa.
14 Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him.
“Miishe dosiya Farisaaweti hessa si7ida wode Yesuusa qelqisidosona.
15 He said to them, “You justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts. That which is exalted among men is detestable in the sight of God.

16 The law and the prophets were in effect until John came. From that time on, the gospel of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone tries to force their way into it.
“Muse higgeynne nabeta kiitay Yohaannisa gakkanaw hinttew odettishe gam77is. Hessafe guye, Xoossaa kawotethaa Wonggelaa odettishe gam77is. Asi ubbay yaa gelanaw dafettees.

18 Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries one who is divorced from her husband commits adultery.
“Ba machchiw yeddidi haraa ekkiya ubbay laammees. Ba azinaappe anjjettidaaro ekkeysika laammees” yaagis.
19 Now there was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and was enjoying every day his great wealth.
“Al77onne alleeqo afila ma77iya, sa7i injjetin gallas gallas ufayssan de7iya issi dure asi de7ees.
20 A certain beggar named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores,

22 It came about that the beggar died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried,
“He manqoyka hayqqis; kiitanchchoti iya Abrahaame ki7uwa efidosona. Qassi dure uraykka hayqqidi moogettis.

24 So he cried out and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.'
I, ‘Aawaw Abrahaame, taw qadhettarkii; ha laco taman un77ettada de7iya gisho Alaazari ba biradhdhiya haathan yeddidi ta inxarssa laakothana mela hayyana iya yeddarkki’ yaagidi waassis.
25 But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things. But now he is comforted here, and you are in agony.
“Shin Abrahamey iyaakko, ‘Ta na7aw, ne sa7an de7iya wode lo77obaata ekkidayssa, qassi Alaazari iitabata ekkidayssa akeeka. Shin ha77i I hayssan ufayttees, qassi neeni waayettashe de7aasa’ yaagis.
26 Besides all this, a great chasm has been put in place, so that those who want to cross over from here to you cannot, and no one can cross over from there to us.'
Ha ubbaafe aadhdhidi, ‘Haappe hintteko, hinippe haa nuukko aadhdhanaw koyeyssati pinnonna mela nuusinne hinttes giddon gita aafoy de7ees’ yaagis.
27 The rich man said, 'I beg you, Father Abraham, that you would send him to my father's house—
“Dure uray, ‘Aawaw, yaakko Alaazara ta aawa soo kiittana mela ta nena woossays.
28 for I have five brothers—in order that he may warn them, so that it may not be that they come into this place of torment.'
Taw ichchashu ishati de7idosona, enttika ha waaye bessaa yoonna mela enttaw bidi markkatto’ yaagis.
29 But Abraham said, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them listen to them.'
“Shin Abrahamey, ‘Enttaw Museranne nabetara de7oosona; entti odiyabaa si7onna’ yaagis.
30 The rich man replied, 'No, Father Abraham, but if someone would go to them from the dead, they will repent.'
“Dure uray, ‘Aawaw Abrahaame, hessatho gidenna; issi asi hayqoppe denddidi biikko entti maarotan gelana’ yaagis.
31 But Abraham said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone rises from the dead.'”
“Abrahamey, ‘Musenne nabeta si7onna ixxiko, hari attoshin hayqoppe issi asi denddi odikkoka ammanokkona’ yaagis.”
