Luke 16
1 Jesus also said to the disciples, “There was a certain rich man who had a manager, and it was reported to him that this manager was wasting his possessions.
Jésus disait aussi à ses disciples: Un homme riche avait un économe, qui fut accusé auprès de lui de dissiper ses biens.
2 So the rich man called him and said to him, 'What is this that I hear about you? Give an account of your management, for you can no longer be manager.'
Il le fit venir et lui dit: Qu'est-ce que j'entends dire de toi? Rends compte de ton administration; car tu ne pourras plus désormais administrer mes biens.
3 The manager said to himself, 'What should I do, since my master is taking away my management job? I do not have strength to dig, and I am ashamed to beg.
L'économe se dit en lui-même: Que ferai-je, puisque mon maître m'ôte mon emploi? Travailler la terre, je n'en ai pas la force; et j'ai honte de mendier.
4 I know what I will do, so that when I am removed from my management job, people will welcome me into their houses.'
Je sais ce que je ferai, afin que, quand j'aurai été renvoyé de mon emploi, il y ait des gens qui me reçoivent dans leurs maisons.
5 Then the manager called for each one of his master's debtors, and he asked the first one, 'How much do you owe to my master?'
Alors il fit venir séparément chacun des débiteurs de son maître, et il dit au premier: Combien dois-tu à mon maître?
6 He said, 'A hundred baths of olive oil.' He said to him, 'Take your bill, sit down quickly, and write fifty.'
Le débiteur répondit: Cent mesures d'huile. L'économe lui dit: Prends ton billet; assieds-toi là, et écris vite: Cinquante.
7 Then the manager said to another, 'How much do you owe?' He said, 'A hundred cors of wheat.' He said to him, 'Take your bill, and write eighty.'
Il dit ensuite à un autre: Et toi, combien dois-tu? Celui-ci répondit: Cent mesures de froment. L'économe lui dit: Prends ton billet, et écris: Quatre-vingts.
8 The master then commended the unrighteous manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the children of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own people than are the children of light. (aiōn g165)
Le maître loua l'économe infidèle de ce qu'il avait agi avec prudence; car les enfants de ce siècle, dans leurs rapports avec les hommes de leur génération, sont plus prudents que les enfants de lumière. (aiōn g165)
9 I say to you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when it is gone, they may welcome you into the eternal dwellings. (aiōnios g166)
Et moi, je vous le dis: Faites-vous des amis avec les richesses injustes, afin que, lorsqu'elles viendront à vous manquer, ils vous reçoivent dans les tabernacles éternels. (aiōnios g166)
10 He who is faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and he who is unrighteous in very little is also unrighteous in much.
Celui qui est fidèle dans les plus petites choses est aussi fidèle dans les grandes; et celui qui est injuste dans les plus petites choses est aussi injuste dans les grandes.
11 If you have not been faithful in using unrighteous wealth, who will trust you with true wealth?
Si donc vous n'avez pas été fidèles dans les richesses injustes, qui vous confiera les véritables?
12 If you have not been faithful in using other people's property, who will give you money of your own?
Et si vous n'avez pas été fidèles dans ce qui est à autrui, qui vous donnera ce qui est à vous?
13 No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”
Nul serviteur ne peut servir deux maîtres; car, ou il haïra l'un et aimera l'autre, ou il s'attachera à l'un et méprisera l'autre. Vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et Mammon.
14 Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him.
Les pharisiens, qui aimaient l'argent, entendaient tout cela, et ils se moquaient de lui.
15 He said to them, “You justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts. That which is exalted among men is detestable in the sight of God.
Il leur dit: Vous vous faites passer pour justes devant les hommes, mais Dieu connaît vos coeurs; car ce qui est élevé aux yeux des hommes est une abomination devant Dieu.
16 The law and the prophets were in effect until John came. From that time on, the gospel of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone tries to force their way into it.
La loi et les prophètes ont duré jusqu'à Jean; depuis lors, le royaume de Dieu est annoncé, et chacun y entre par la violence.
17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of a letter of the law to become invalid.
Il est plus facile que le ciel et la terre passent, qu'il ne l'est qu'un seul trait de lettre de la loi vienne à tomber.
18 Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries one who is divorced from her husband commits adultery.
Quiconque répudie sa femme et en épouse une autre, commet un adultère, et celui qui épouse la femme répudiée par son mari, commet un adultère.
19 Now there was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and was enjoying every day his great wealth.
Il y avait un homme riche, qui était vêtu de pourpre et de lin fin, et qui se traitait bien et magnifiquement tous les jours.
20 A certain beggar named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores,
Il y avait aussi un pauvre, nommé Lazare, couché à la porte du riche et couvert d'ulcères.
21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
Il aurait bien voulu se rassasier de ce qui tombait de la table du riche; et même, les chiens venaient lécher ses ulcères.
22 It came about that the beggar died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried,
Or, il arriva que le pauvre mourut, et il fut porté par les anges dans le sein d'Abraham; le riche mourut aussi, et il fut enseveli.
23 and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus at his side. (Hadēs g86)
Étant dans l'enfer et en proie aux tourments, il leva les yeux et vit de loin Abraham, et Lazare dans son sein. (Hadēs g86)
24 So he cried out and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.'
Alors il s'écria: Père Abraham, aie pitié de moi et envoie Lazare, afin qu'il trempe dans l'eau le bout de son doigt et me rafraîchisse la langue; car je souffre beaucoup dans cette flamme.
25 But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things. But now he is comforted here, and you are in agony.
Abraham lui répondit: Mon enfant, souviens-toi que tu as eu tes biens pendant ta vie, tandis que Lazare a eu des maux; maintenant, ici, il est consolé, et toi, tu es dans les tourments.
26 Besides all this, a great chasm has been put in place, so that those who want to cross over from here to you cannot, and no one can cross over from there to us.'
D'ailleurs, entre nous et vous s'ouvre un grand abîme, de sorte que ceux qui voudraient aller d'ici vers vous ne le peuvent, non plus que ceux qui voudraient passer de là vers nous.
27 The rich man said, 'I beg you, Father Abraham, that you would send him to my father's house—
Le riche dit: Je te prie donc, père, d'envoyer Lazare dans la maison de mon père,
28 for I have five brothers—in order that he may warn them, so that it may not be that they come into this place of torment.'
— car j'ai cinq frères, — pour qu'il leur atteste ces choses, de peur qu'eux aussi ne viennent dans ce lieu de tourments.
29 But Abraham said, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them listen to them.'
Abraham lui répondit: Ils ont Moïse et les prophètes; qu'ils les écoutent!
30 The rich man replied, 'No, Father Abraham, but if someone would go to them from the dead, they will repent.'
Le riche reprit: Non, père Abraham; mais si quelqu'un des morts va vers eux, ils se repentiront.
31 But Abraham said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone rises from the dead.'”
Mais Abraham lui dit: S'ils n'écoutent pas Moïse et les prophètes, ils ne seraient pas non plus persuadés, quand même quelqu'un des morts ressusciterait.
