< Leviticus 19 >

1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
2 “Speak to all the assembly of the people of Israel and say to them, 'You must be holy, for I Yahweh your God am holy.
“Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, and you have said to them: You are holy, because I, your God YHWH, [am] holy.
3 Everyone must respect his mother and his father, and you must keep my Sabbaths. I am Yahweh your God.
You each fear his mother and his father, and you keep My Sabbaths; I [am] your God YHWH.
4 Do not turn to worthless idols, nor make for yourselves gods out of metal. I am Yahweh your God.
You do not turn to the idols, and you do not make a molten god for yourselves; I [am] your God YHWH.
5 When you offer a sacrifice of fellowship offerings to Yahweh, you must offer it that you may be accepted.
And when you sacrifice a sacrifice of peace-offerings to YHWH, you sacrifice it at your pleasure;
6 It must be eaten the same day you offer it, or on the next day. If anything remains until the third day, it must be burned up with fire.
it is eaten in the day of your sacrificing [it], and on the next day, and that which is left to the third day is burned with fire,
7 If it is eaten at all on the third day, it is unclean meat; it must not be accepted,
and if it is really eaten on the third day, it [is] an abomination, it is not pleasing,
8 and everyone who eats it must carry his own guilt because he has defiled what is holy to Yahweh, and that person must be cut off from his people.
and he who is eating it bears his iniquity, for he has defiled the holy thing of YHWH, and that person has been cut off from his people.
9 When you reap the harvest of your land, you must not completely reap the corners of your field, neither will you gather all the produce of your harvest.
And in your reaping the harvest of your land you do not completely reap the corner of your field, and you do not gather the gleaning of your harvest,
10 You must not gather every grape from your vineyard, nor gather the grapes that have fallen on the ground in your vineyard. You must leave them for the poor and for the foreigner. I am Yahweh your God.
and you do not glean your vineyard, even the omitted part of your vineyard you do not gather, you leave them for the poor and for the sojourner; I [am] your God YHWH.
11 Do not steal. Do not lie. Do not deceive each other.
You do not steal, nor feign, nor lie—each against his fellow.
12 Do not swear by my name falsely and profane the name of your God. I am Yahweh.
And you do not swear by My Name for falsehood, or you have defiled the Name of your God; I [am] YHWH.
13 Do not oppress your neighbor or rob him. The wages of a hired servant must not stay with you all night until the morning.
You do not oppress your neighbor, nor take plunder; the wages of the hired worker do not remain with you until morning.
14 Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind. Instead, you must fear your God. I am Yahweh.
You do not revile the deaf; and you do not put a stumbling block before the blind; and you have been afraid of your God; I [am] YHWH.
15 Do not cause judgment to be false. You must not show favoritism to someone because he is poor, and you must not show favoritism to someone because he is important. Instead, judge your neighbor righteously.
You do not do perversity in judgment; you do not lift up the face of the poor, nor honor the face of the great; you judge your fellow in righteousness.
16 Do not walk around spreading slander among your people, but seek to protect your neighbor's life. I am Yahweh.
You do not go slandering among your people; you do not stand against the blood of your neighbor; I [am] YHWH.
17 Do not hate your brother in your heart. You must honestly rebuke your neighbor so as not to share in sin because of him.
You do not hate your brother in your heart; you certainly reprove your fellow, and do not permit sin on him.
18 Do not take vengeance or hold any grudge against any of your people, but instead love your neighbor as yourself. I am Yahweh.
You do not take vengeance, nor watch the sons of your people; and you have had love for your neighbor as yourself; I [am] YHWH.
19 You must keep my commands. Do not try to breed your animals with different kinds of other animals. Do not mix two different kinds of seeds when planting your field. Do not wear clothing made of two kinds of material mixed together.
You keep My statutes. You do not cause your livestock to mate [with] two kinds; you do not sow your field with two kinds; and a garment of two kinds, mixed material, does not go up on you.
20 Whoever sleeps with a slave girl who is promised to a husband, but who has not been ransomed or given her freedom, they must be punished. They must not be put to death because she was not free.
And when a man lies with a woman with seed [from] intercourse, and she [is] a maidservant, betrothed to a man, and not really ransomed, or freedom has not been given to her, there is an investigation; they are not put to death, for she [is] not free.
21 A man must bring his guilt offering to Yahweh to the entrance to the tent of meeting—a ram as a guilt offering.
And he has brought in his guilt-offering to YHWH, to the opening of the Tent of Meeting, a ram [for] a guilt-offering,
22 Then the priest will make atonement for him with the ram for the guilt offering before Yahweh, for the sin that he has committed. Then the sin which he has committed will be forgiven.
and the priest has made atonement for him with the ram of the guilt-offering before YHWH, for his sin which he has sinned, and it has been forgiven him because of his sin which he has sinned.
23 When you come into the land and have planted all kinds of trees for food, then you must regard the fruit they produce as forbidden to be eaten. The fruit must be forbidden to you for three years. It must not be eaten.
And when you come into the land and have planted all [kinds] of trees [for] food, then you have reckoned its fruit as uncircumcised, it is uncircumcised to you [for] three years, it is not eaten,
24 But in the fourth year all the fruit will be holy, an offering of praise to Yahweh.
and in the fourth year all its fruit is holy—praises for YHWH.
25 In the fifth you may eat the fruit, having waited so that the trees might produce more. I am Yahweh your God.
And in the fifth year you eat its fruit—to add to you its increase; I [am] your God YHWH.
26 Do not eat any meat with blood still in it. Do not consult spirits about the future, and do not seek to control others by supernatural powers.
You do not eat with the blood. You do not enchant, nor observe clouds.
27 You will not round off the corners of the hair on the sides of your head or shave off the edge of your beard.
You do not round the corner of your head, nor destroy the corner of your beard.
28 Do not cut your body for the dead or put tattoo marks on your body. I am Yahweh.
And you do not put a cutting for the soul in your flesh; and a writing, a cross-mark, you do not put on yourself; I [am] YHWH.
29 Do not disgrace your daughter by making her a prostitute, or the nation will fall to prostitution and the land will become full of wickedness.
You do not defile your daughter to cause her to go whoring, that the land does not go whoring, and the land has been full of wickedness.
30 You must keep my Sabbaths and honor the sanctuary of my tabernacle. I am Yahweh.
You keep My Sabbaths and you revere My sanctuary; I [am] YHWH.
31 Do not turn to those who talk with the dead or with spirits. Do not seek them out, or they will defile you. I am Yahweh your God.
You do not turn to those having familiar spirits, and you do not seek for wizards, to become unclean by them; I [am] your God YHWH.
32 You must rise before the gray-headed person and honor the presence of an old man. You must fear your God. I am Yahweh.
You rise up at the presence of grey hairs, and you have honored the presence of an old man, and have been afraid of your God; I [am] YHWH.
33 If a foreigner lives among you in your land, you must not do him any wrong.
And when a sojourner sojourns with you in your land, you do not oppress him;
34 The foreigner who lives with you must be to you like the native-born Israelite who lives among you, and you must love him as yourself, because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am Yahweh your God.
the sojourner who is sojourning with you is to you as a native among you, and you have had love for him as for yourself, for you have been sojourners in the land of Egypt; I [am] your God YHWH.
35 Do not use false measures when measuring length, weight, or quantity.
You do not do perversity in the judgment, in the measure, in the weight, and in the liquid measure;
36 You must use just scales, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin. I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.
you have righteous balances, righteous weights, a righteous ephah, and a righteous hin; I [am] your God YHWH, who has brought you out from the land of Egypt;
37 You must obey all my decrees and all my laws, and do them. I am Yahweh.'”
and you have observed all my statutes, and all my judgments, and have done them; I [am] YHWH.”
