< Lamentations 3 >
1 I am a man who has seen misery under the rod of Yahweh's fury.
Niĩ ndĩ mũndũ wonete thĩĩna nĩ ũndũ wa kũhũũrwo na rũthanju rwa mangʼũrĩ make.
2 He drove me away and caused me to walk in darkness rather than light.
Andwarĩte akangereria nduma-inĩ handũ ha ũtheri-inĩ;
3 Surely he turned his hand against me again and again, the whole day long.
ti-itherũ, atũmĩte guoko gwake kũnjũkĩrĩre rĩngĩ na rĩngĩ, mũthenya wothe.
4 He made my flesh and my skin waste away; he broke my bones.
Nĩatũmĩte nyama cia mwĩrĩ wakwa na gĩkonde kĩaguo ihinyare, na akoinanga mahĩndĩ makwa.
5 He built up siege works against me, and surrounded me with bitterness and hardship.
Nĩandigiicĩirie, na agaathiũrũrũkĩria na marũrũ, na thĩĩna.
6 He made me live in dark places, like those who died long ago.
Atũmĩte ndũũre nduma-inĩ o ta andũ arĩa maakuire tene.
7 He built a wall around me and I cannot escape. He made my chains heavy
Nĩanjirigĩire na rũthingo nĩguo ndikae kũũra; mĩnyororo yakwa nĩamĩritũhĩtie mũno.
8 and though I call out and cry for help, he shut out my prayer.
O na rĩrĩa ndetana kana ndakaya ngĩenda ũteithio-rĩ, nĩ kũhingĩrĩria ahingagĩrĩria mahooya makwa.
9 He blocked my path with a wall of hewn stone; he made my paths crooked.
Nĩahingĩte njĩra yakwa na mahiga maicũhie; atũmĩte tũcĩra twakwa tuogome.
10 He is like a bear waiting to ambush me, a lion in hiding;
Kũrĩ niĩ aatuĩkĩte o ta nduba rĩrĩa yoheirie, kana ta mũrũũthi rĩrĩa wĩhithĩte,
11 he turned aside my paths, he has made me desolate.
akĩngururia kuuma gacĩra-inĩ, akĩndambuura, akĩndiganĩria itarĩ na ũteithio.
12 He bent his bow and set me as a target for his arrow.
13 He pierced my kidneys with the arrows of his quiver.
Nĩatheecire ngoro yakwa na mĩguĩ kuuma thiaka-inĩ wake.
14 I became a laughingstock to all my people, the object of their taunting all day long.
15 He filled me with bitterness and forced me to drink wormwood.
16 He has made my teeth grind with gravel, and he made me cower in the ashes.
Nĩangʼethũrangĩte magego makwa na kagoto; anangĩrĩirie rũkũngũ-inĩ.
17 My soul is deprived of peace; I have forgotten what happiness is.
Nĩnjagithĩtio thayũ; nĩndiganĩirwo ũgaacĩru nĩ kĩĩ.
18 So I say, “My endurance has perished and so has my hope in Yahweh.”
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio nguuga atĩrĩ, “Riiri wakwa nĩũthirĩte, o hamwe na maũndũ marĩa mothe ndũire njĩrĩgĩrĩire kuuma kũrĩ Jehova.”
19 Remember my affliction and my wanderings, the wormwood and bitterness.
20 I continually remember it and I am bowed down within me.
Ngoro yakwa no ĩraririkana maũndũ macio, nayo ĩkaringĩka thĩinĩ wakwa.
21 But I call this to mind and therefore I have hope:
O na gũtariĩ ũguo nĩndirikanaga ũndũ ũyũ, na tondũ wa ũguo ngagĩa na kĩĩrĩgĩrĩro:
22 The steadfast love of Yahweh never ceases and his compassions never end,
Tondũ wa wendo mũnene wa Jehova, nĩkĩo tũtaniinĩtwo biũ, nĩgũkorwo tha ciake itirĩ hĩndĩ ithiraga.
23 they are new every morning; your faithfulness is great.
Tha ciaku ikoragwo irĩ njerũ rũciinĩ o rũciinĩ, wĩhokeku waku nĩ mũnene mũno.
24 “Yahweh is my inheritance,” I said, therefore I will hope in him.
Ngoro yakwa yugaga atĩrĩ, “Jehova nĩwe igai rĩakwa; tondũ ũcio nĩwe ndĩrĩetagĩrĩra.”
25 Yahweh is good to those who wait for him, to the one who seeks him.
Jehova nĩ mwega kũrĩ arĩa mamwĩhokaga, kũrĩ ngoro ĩyo ĩmũrongoragia;
26 It is good to wait silently for the salvation of Yahweh.
nĩ wega mũndũ gweterera ũhonokio wa Jehova o akirĩte.
27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.
Nĩ wega mũndũ gũkuua icooki hĩndĩ ĩrĩa arĩ mũnini.
28 Let him sit alone in silence, when it is laid upon him.
Nĩaikare arĩ wiki akirĩte, nĩgũkorwo nĩ Jehova ũmũigĩrĩire rĩo.
29 Let him put his mouth in the dust—there may yet be hope.
Nĩaturumithie ũthiũ wake rũkũngũ-inĩ, no gũkorwo aahota kũgĩa na kĩĩrĩgĩrĩro.
30 Let him offer his cheek to the one who strikes him, and let him be filled to the full with reproach.
Nĩerekererie rũthĩa kũrĩ mũndũ ũrĩa ũkũmũgũtha, na aiyũrwo nĩ thoni.
31 For the Lord will not reject us forever,
Nĩgũkorwo Jehova ndateanagĩria andũ nginya tene.
32 but though he causes grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love.
O na gũtuĩka nĩarehaga kĩeha-rĩ, we nĩaiguanagĩra tha, nĩgũkorwo wendo ũcio wake ũtathiraga nĩ mũnene mũno.
33 For he does not afflict from his heart or torment the children of mankind.
Nĩgũkorwo ndarehagĩra andũ mĩnyamaro, kana akarehere ciana cia andũ kĩeha akĩendaga.
34 To crush underfoot all the prisoners of the earth,
Rĩrĩa andũ a bũrũri arĩa othe mohetwo maarangĩrĩrio na makinya-rĩ,
35 to deny a man justice in the presence of the Most High,
rĩrĩa mũndũ aagithio kĩhooto gĩake mbere ya Ũrĩa-ũrĩ-Igũrũ-Mũno-rĩ,
36 to deny justice to a person—the Lord would not approve such things!
o na rĩrĩa mũndũ atuĩrwo ciira hatarĩ kĩhooto-rĩ, githĩ Mwathani ndonaga maũndũ macio?
37 Who has spoken and it came to pass, unless the Lord decreed it?
Nũũ ũngĩaria na atũme ũndũ ũcio ũhinge, Mwathani ataathanĩte gũtuĩke ũguo?
38 Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that both calamities and the good come?
39 How can any person alive complain? How can a person complain about the punishment for his sins?
Mũndũ o wothe ũrĩ muoyo-rĩ, atetaga nĩkĩ rĩrĩa ekũherithio nĩ ũndũ wa mehia make?
40 Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to Yahweh.
Nĩtũthuthuurie-i mĩthiĩre iitũ na tũmĩtuĩrie, tũcokerere Jehova.
41 Let us lift up our hearts and our hands to God in the heavens:
Nĩtwambararie ngoro ciitũ na moko maitũ na igũrũ kũrĩ Mũrungu ũrĩa ũrĩ igũrũ, tuuge atĩrĩ:
42 “We have transgressed and rebelled, and you have not forgiven.
“Ithuĩ-rĩ, nĩtwĩhĩtie na tũgakũremera, wee nawe ũkaaga gũtũrekera.
43 You have covered yourself with anger and pursued us, you have killed and you have not spared.
“Wee wĩhumbĩrĩte na marakara, ũgatũingatithia; ũũraganĩte ũtekũiguanĩra tha.
44 You have covered yourself with a cloud so that no prayer can pass through.
Wee wĩhumbĩrĩte na itu nĩgeetha gũtikagĩe na ihooya rĩngĩgũkinyĩra.
45 You have made us like filthy scum and refuse among the nations.
46 All our enemies curse us,
“Thũ ciitũ ciothe itwathamĩirie tũnua itũũkĩrĩre.
47 panic and pitfall have come upon us, ruin and destruction.
Nĩtũkorereirwo nĩ kĩmako kĩnene, na tũkenjerwo marima, tũgakorwo nĩ ũniinani, na mwanangĩko.”
48 My eyes flow with streams of tears because my people are destroyed.
Maitho makwa maranyũrũrũkia tũrũũĩ twa maithori nĩ ũndũ andũ akwa nĩmanangĩtwo.
49 My eyes will shed tears without ceasing, without relief,
Maitho makwa marĩnyũrũrũkagia maithori mategũtigithĩria, magaikara o makĩnyũrũrũkaga,
50 until Yahweh from heaven looks down and sees.
nginya rĩrĩa Jehova agaacũthĩrĩria arĩ igũrũ oone.
51 My eyes cause me grief because of all the daughters of my city.
Maũndũ marĩa ndĩrona nĩmaranjiguithia kĩeha ngoro, tondũ wa andũ-a-nja othe a itũũra rĩakwa inene.
52 I have been hunted like a bird by those who were my enemies; they hunted me without a reason.
Andũ arĩa maatuĩkĩte thũ ciakwa hatarĩ gĩtũmi nĩo maanguĩmaga ta nyoni.
53 They cast me into a pit and they threw a stone on me,
Maanjikirie irima makĩenda kũnjũraga, na makĩĩhũũra na mahiga;
54 and they caused waters to overflow, covering my head. I said, 'I have been cut off!'
ndaahubanĩirio nĩ maaĩ maingĩ, magĩikũrũkĩra igũrũ rĩa mũtwe wakwa, na niĩ ngĩĩciiria ndĩ hakuhĩ kũniinwo.
55 I called on your name, Yahweh, from the depths of the pit.
Ngĩkaĩra rĩĩtwa rĩaku Wee Jehova, ndĩ kũu irima-inĩ rĩu iriku.
56 You heard my voice when I said, 'Do not close your ear to my cry for help.'
Na we ũkĩigua ithaithana rĩakwa, ngĩkwĩra atĩrĩ, “Tiga kũhinga matũ maku ngĩgũkaĩra ũndeithie.”
57 You came near on the day I called on you; you said, 'Do not fear.'
Nawe ũkĩnguhĩrĩria rĩrĩa ndagũkaĩire, ũkĩnjĩĩra atĩrĩ, “Tiga gwĩtigĩra.”
58 Lord, you defended my case, you saved my life!
Wee Mwathani-rĩ, nĩwe wanjiirĩrĩire; nawe ũgĩgĩkũũra muoyo wakwa.
59 Yahweh, you have seen the wrong they have done to me; judge my case.
Wee Jehova, nĩwonete ũũru ũrĩa njĩkĩtwo. Tua ciira wakwa arĩ we!
60 You have seen their insults, all their plots against me—
61 You have heard their scorn, Yahweh, and all their plans regarding me.
62 The lips and the accusations of my enemies come against me all the day.
maũndũ marĩa thũ ciakwa ciaragia na mĩheehũ ikĩngʼungʼuanaga injũkĩrĩre mũthenya wothe.
63 Look at how they sit and then rise up; they mock me with their songs.
Ta kĩmarore! Magĩikara thĩ kana magĩũkĩra, maanyũrũragia na nyĩmbo ciao.
64 Pay back to them, Yahweh, according to what they have done.
65 You will let their hearts be shameless! May your condemnation be upon them!
Ũmia ngoro ciao, nakĩo kĩrumi gĩaku kĩroikara nao!
66 You pursue them in anger and destroy them from under the heavens, Yahweh!”
