Judges 9
1 Abimelech son of Jerub Baal went to his mother's relatives at Shechem and he said to them and to the whole clan of his mother's family,
യെരൂ-ബാലിന്റെ മകനായ അബീമെലെക്ക് ശേഖേമിൽ ചെന്നു തന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരോടും അമ്മയുടെ കുലത്തിലുള്ള എല്ലാവരോടും സംസാരിച്ചു:
2 “Please say this, so that all the leaders in Shechem may hear, 'Which is better for you, that all seventy sons of Jerub Baal rule over you, or that just one rule over you?' Remember that I am your bone and your flesh.”
“ശേഖേം പൗരന്മാരോട് ചോദിക്കുക: ‘യെരൂ-ബാലിന്റെ എഴുപത് പുത്രന്മാരുംകൂടെ നിങ്ങളെ ഭരിക്കുന്നതോ ഒരുവൻ നിങ്ങളെ ഭരിക്കുന്നതോ ഏതാണ് നിങ്ങൾക്കു നല്ലത്?’ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ മാംസവും രക്തവുമാണെന്ന് ഓർക്കുക.”
3 His mother's relatives spoke for him to the leaders of Shechem, and they agreed to follow Abimelech, for they said, “He is our brother.”
അങ്ങനെ അബീമെലെക്കിന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ സഹോദരന്മാർ ശേഖേമിലെ സകലപൗരന്മാരോടും ഈ വാക്കുകൾ സംസാരിച്ചപ്പോൾ, അവർ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട് ചാഞ്ഞു; “അദ്ദേഹം നമ്മുടെ സഹോദരനല്ലോ” എന്ന് അവർ പറഞ്ഞു.
4 They gave him seventy pieces of silver out of the house of Baal-Berith, and Abimelech used it to hire men of lawless and reckless character, who followed him.

5 Abimelech went to his father's house at Ophrah, and upon one stone he murdered his seventy brothers, the sons of Jerub Baal. Only Jotham was left, the youngest son of Jerub Baal, for he hid himself.

6 All the leaders of Shechem and Beth Millo came together and they went and made Abimelech king, beside the oak near the pillar which is in Shechem.
അതിന്റെശേഷം ശേഖേമിലെയും ബേത്-മില്ലോയിലെയും എല്ലാ പൗരന്മാരും ശേഖേമിലെ സ്തംഭത്തിനരികെയുള്ള കരുവേലകത്തിന് സമീപം ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂടി, അവിടെവെച്ച് അബീമെലെക്കിനെ രാജാവായി വാഴിച്ചു.
7 When Jotham was told about this, he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim. He shouted and said to them, “Listen to me, you leaders of Shechem, so that God may listen to you.
ഇതു കേട്ടപ്പോൾ യോഥാം ഗെരിസീം മലമുകളിൽ കയറി ഉച്ചത്തിൽ അവരോട് ഇപ്രകാരം വിളിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞു: “ശേഖേം പൗരന്മാരേ, ദൈവം നിങ്ങളുടെ പ്രാർഥന കേൾക്കേണ്ടതിനു നിങ്ങൾ എന്റെ വാക്കു കേൾക്കുക,
8 The trees once went out to anoint a king over them. For they said to the olive tree, 'Reign over us.'
ഒരിക്കൽ വൃക്ഷങ്ങൾ തങ്ങൾക്ക് ഒരു രാജാവിനെ അഭിഷേകംചെയ്യാൻ പോയി; അവ ഒലിവു വൃക്ഷത്തോട്: ‘നീ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു രാജാവായിരിക്കുക’ എന്നപേക്ഷിച്ചു.
9 But the olive tree said to them, 'Should I give up my oil, which is used to honor gods and mankind, so I may go return, just to sway over the other trees?'
“അതിന് ഒലിവുവൃക്ഷം, ‘ദേവന്മാരും മനുഷ്യരും ഒരുപോലെ പുകഴ്ത്തുന്ന എന്റെ എണ്ണ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച് ഞാൻ വൃക്ഷങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ആടാൻ പോകുമോ?’ എന്ന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
10 The trees said to the fig tree, 'Come and reign over us.'
“പിന്നെ വൃക്ഷങ്ങൾ അത്തിവൃക്ഷത്തോട്, ‘വരിക, നീ ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് രാജാവായിരിക്കുക’ എന്നപേക്ഷിച്ചു.
11 But the fig tree said to them, 'Should I give up my sweetness and my good fruit, just so I could return and sway over the other trees?'
“അതിന് അത്തിവൃക്ഷം, ‘മധുരമുള്ള വിശേഷപ്പെട്ട എന്റെ പഴം ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച് ഞാൻ വൃക്ഷങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ആടാൻ പോകുമോ?’ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
12 The trees said to the vine, 'Come and reign over us.'
“പിന്നെ വൃക്ഷങ്ങൾ മുന്തിരിവള്ളിയോട് അപേക്ഷിച്ചു, ‘വരിക, നീ ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് രാജാവായിരിക്കുക.’
13 The vine said to them, 'Should I give up my new wine, which cheers gods and mankind, and return and sway over the other trees?'
“മുന്തിരിവള്ളി പറഞ്ഞു, ‘ദേവന്മാരെയും മനുഷ്യരെയും ആനന്ദിപ്പിക്കുന്ന എന്റെ വീഞ്ഞുപേക്ഷിച്ച് ഞാൻ വൃക്ഷങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ആടാൻ പോകുമോ?’
14 Then said all the trees to the thornbush, 'Come and reign over us.'
“ഒടുവിൽ വൃക്ഷങ്ങളെല്ലാം ചേർന്ന് മുൾപ്പടർപ്പിനോടു പറഞ്ഞു, ‘വരിക, നീ വന്ന് ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് രാജാവായിരിക്കുക.’
15 The thornbush said to the trees, 'If you truly want to anoint me as king over you, then come and find safety under my shade. If not, then let fire come out of the thornbush and let it burn up the cedars of Lebanon.'
“മുൾപ്പടർപ്പ് വൃക്ഷങ്ങളോട്, ‘നിങ്ങൾ യഥാർഥമായി എന്നെ നിങ്ങൾക്ക് രാജാവായി അഭിഷേകംചെയ്യാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു എങ്കിൽ എന്റെ തണലിൽ ആശ്രയിക്കുക; അല്ലാത്തപക്ഷം മുൾപ്പടർപ്പിൽനിന്ന് തീയിറങ്ങി ലെബാനോനിലെ ദേവദാരുക്കളെ ദഹിപ്പിക്കട്ടെ!’
16 Now therefore, if you have acted in truth and honesty, when you made Abimelech king, and if you have done well concerning Jerub Baal and his house, and if you have punished him as he deserves—
“നിങ്ങൾ ഇപ്പോൾ അബീമെലെക്കിനെ രാജാവാക്കിയതിൽ മാന്യതയോടും ഉത്തമബോധ്യത്തോടും കൂടെയാണോ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചത്? നിങ്ങൾ യെരൂ-ബാലിനോടും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കുടുംബത്തോടും ചെയ്തത് ന്യായമാണോ? അദ്ദേഹം അർഹിക്കുന്നവിധത്തിലാണോ നിങ്ങൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട് പെരുമാറിയത്?
17 —and to think that my father fought for you, risked his life, and rescued you out of the hand of Midian—
എന്റെ പിതാവ് തന്റെ ജീവൻ പണയപ്പെടുത്തിക്കൊണ്ട് നിങ്ങൾക്കുവേണ്ടി യുദ്ധംചെയ്ത് മിദ്യാന്യരുടെ കൈയിൽനിന്നു നിങ്ങളെ രക്ഷിച്ചു.
18 but today you have risen up against my father's house and have killed his sons, seventy persons, upon one stone. Then you have made Abimelech, the son of his female servant, king over the leaders of Shechem, because he is your relative.
എന്നാൽ നിങ്ങൾ ഇന്ന് എന്റെ പിതാവിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തിനെതിരേ മത്സരിച്ചു, അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ എഴുപത് പുത്രന്മാരെയും ഒരു കല്ലിന്മേൽവെച്ചു കൊന്നു; അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ദാസിയുടെ മകനായ അബീമെലെക്ക് നിങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരനായതുകൊണ്ട് അയാളെ ശേഖേം പൗരന്മാർക്ക് രാജാവാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തല്ലോ.
19 If you acted with honesty and integrity with Jerub Baal and his house, then you should rejoice in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you.
നിങ്ങൾ ഇന്ന് മാന്യതയോടെയും ഉത്തമബോധ്യത്തോടും കൂടെയാണ് യെരൂ-ബാലിനൊടും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കുടുംബത്തോടും പ്രവർത്തിച്ചതെങ്കിൽ നിങ്ങൾ അബീമെലെക്കിൽ ആനന്ദിക്കുക; അയാൾ നിങ്ങളിലും ആനന്ദിക്കട്ടെ!
20 But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech and burn up the men of Shechem and Beth Millo. Let fire come out from the men of Shechem and Beth Millo, to burn up Abimelech.”
അല്ലാത്തപക്ഷം, അബീമെലെക്കിൽനിന്ന് തീ ഇറങ്ങി ശേഖേമിലെയും ബേത്-മില്ലോയുടെയും ജനത്തെ ദഹിപ്പിക്കട്ടെ; ശേഖേമിൽനിന്നും ബേത്-മില്ലോയിൽനിന്നും തീ ഇറങ്ങി അബീമെലെക്കിനെയും വിഴുങ്ങട്ടെ!”
21 Jotham fled and ran away, and he went to Beer. He lived there because it was far away from Abimelech, his brother.
യോഥാം ബേരിലേക്കു പലായനംചെയ്തു. തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അബീമെലെക്കിനെ ഭയന്ന് അവിടെ പാർത്തു.
22 Abimelech ruled over Israel for three years.
അബീമെലെക്ക് മൂന്നുവർഷം ഇസ്രായേലിനെ ഭരിച്ചു.
23 God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the leaders of Shechem. The leaders of Shechem betrayed the trust they had with Abimelech.
അബീമെലെക്കിന്റെയും ശേഖേം പൗരന്മാരുടെയും മധ്യത്തിൽ, ദൈവം ഒരു ദുരാത്മാവിനെ അയച്ചു; ശേഖേം പൗരന്മാർ അബീമെലെക്കിനോട് ദ്രോഹം തുടങ്ങി;
24 God did this so the violence done to the seventy sons of Jerub Baal might be avenged, and Abimelech their brother would be held responsible for murdering them, and the men of Shechem would be held responsible because they helped him murder his brothers.
അങ്ങനെ യെരൂ-ബാലിന്റെ എഴുപത് പുത്രന്മാരോടും ചെയ്ത പാതകത്തിനു പ്രതികാരമായിട്ടാണ് അവരുടെ രക്തം അവരുടെ ഘാതകനായ അവരുടെ സഹോദരൻ അബീമെലെക്കിന്റെയും അയാൾക്കു തുണയായിരുന്ന ശേഖേം പൗരന്മാരുടെയുംമേൽ ദൈവം വരുത്തിയത്.
25 So the leaders of Shechem positioned men to lie in wait on the hilltops that they might ambush him, and they robbed all who passed by them along that road. This was reported to Abimelech.
ശേഖേം പൗരന്മാർ അയാൾക്കു വിരോധമായി മലമുകളിൽ ആളുകളെ പതിയിരുത്തി. ഇവർ ആ വഴി പോകുന്ന എല്ലാവരെയും കവർച്ചചെയ്തു; ഇതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് അബീമെലെക്കിന് അറിവുകിട്ടി.
26 Gaal son of Ebed came with his relatives and they went over to Shechem. The leaders of Shechem had confidence in him.
അപ്പോൾ ഏബെദിന്റെ മകനായ ഗാലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരും ശേഖേമിലേക്കു വന്നു; ശേഖേം പൗരന്മാർ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൽ വിശ്വാസമർപ്പിച്ചു.
27 They went out into the field and gathered grapes from the vineyards, and they trampled on them. They held a festival in the house of their god, where they ate and drank, and they cursed Abimelech.
അവർ വയലിൽച്ചെന്ന് തങ്ങളുടെ മുന്തിരിത്തോപ്പുകളിലെ കുലകളറത്ത് തങ്ങളുടെ ദേവന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഉത്സവം ആചരിച്ചു, അവർ തിന്നുകുടിച്ച് അബീമെലെക്കിനെ ശപിച്ചു.
28 Gaal son of Ebed, said, “Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? Is he not the son of Jerub Baal? Is Zebul not his officer? Serve the men of Hamor, Shechem's father! Why should we serve Abimelech?
ഏബെദിന്റെ മകനായ ഗാൽ പറഞ്ഞു: “നാം അയാളെ സേവിക്കേണ്ടതിന് അബീമെലെക്ക് ആര്? ശേഖേം ആര്? അയാൾ യെരൂ-ബാലിന്റെ മകനല്ലേ? സെബൂൽ അയാളുടെ പ്രതിനിധിയുമല്ലേ? ശേഖേമിന്റെ പിതാവായ ഹാമോരിന്റെ മക്കളെ സേവിക്കട്ടെ! നാം എന്തിന് അബീമെലെക്കിനെ സേവിക്കണം?
29 I wish that this people were under my command! Then would I remove Abimelech. I would say to Abimelech, 'Call out all your army.'”
ഈ ജനം എന്റെ കൽപ്പനയിൻ കീഴിലായിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ! ഞാൻ അബീമെലെക്കിനെ ഒടുക്കിക്കളയുമായിരുന്നു. അബീമെലെക്കിനോട്, ‘നിന്റെ മുഴുവൻ സൈന്യവുമായി വരിക’ എന്നു പറയുമായിരുന്നു.”
30 When Zebul, the official of the city, heard the words of Gaal son of Ebed his anger was kindled.
നഗരാധിപനായ സെബൂൽ ഏബെദിന്റെ മകനായ ഗാലിന്റെ വാക്കു കേട്ടപ്പോൾ, അയാൾ കോപിഷ്ഠനായി.
31 He sent messengers to Abimelech in order to deceive, saying, “See, Gaal son of Ebed and his relatives are coming to Shechem, and they are stirring up the city against you.
അയാൾ രഹസ്യമായി അബീമെലെക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു: “ഇതാ ഏബെദിന്റെ മകനായ ഗാലും അയാളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരും ശേഖേമിൽ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു. അയാൾ നിനക്കെതിരേ പട്ടണനിവാസികളെ മത്സരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
32 Now, get up during the night, you and the soldiers with you, and prepare an ambush in the fields.
അതുകൊണ്ട് നീയും നിന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ള സൈന്യവും രാത്രി വയലിൽ പതിയിരിക്കുക.
33 Then in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, rise early and make a raid on the city. When he and the people with him come out against you, do whatever you can to them.”
രാവിലെ സൂര്യോദയത്തിൽ എഴുന്നേറ്റ് പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു വരിക; എന്നാൽ ഗാലും സൈന്യവും താങ്കളുടെനേരേ വരുമ്പോൾ യുക്തമായത് അവരോട് പ്രവർത്തിക്കുക” എന്നറിയിച്ചു.
34 So Abimelech got up during the night, he and all the men who were with him, and they set an ambush against Shechem—dividing into four units.
അങ്ങനെ അബീമെലെക്കും കൂടെയുള്ള സൈന്യവും രാത്രിയിൽ പുറപ്പെട്ട് ശേഖേമിനരികെ നാലു സംഘമായി പതിയിരുന്നു.
35 Gaal son of Ebed went out and stood in the entrance of the city gate. Abimelech and the men who were with him came out of their hiding place.
ഏബെദിന്റെ മകനായ ഗാൽ പുറത്തുവന്ന് നഗരകവാടത്തിൽ നിലയുറപ്പിച്ചു. ഉടനെ അബീമെലെക്കും കൂടെയുള്ള സൈന്യവും പതിയിരിപ്പിൽനിന്ന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു.
36 When Gaal saw the men, he said to Zebul, “See, men are coming down from the hilltops!” Zebul said to him, “You are seeing the shadows on the hills like they are men.”
ഗാൽ അവരെ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ സെബൂലിനോട്, “അതാ, പർവതങ്ങളുടെ മുകളിൽനിന്ന് ആളുകൾ ഇറങ്ങിവരുന്നു!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. സെബൂൽ പറഞ്ഞു, “പർവതങ്ങളുടെ നിഴൽ കണ്ട് മനുഷ്യരെന്ന് താങ്കൾക്കു തോന്നുകയാണ്.”
37 Gaal spoke again and said, “Look, men are coming down in the middle of the land, and one unit is coming by way of the oak of the diviners.”
എന്നാൽ ഗാൽ പിന്നെയും പറഞ്ഞു: “അതാ, ദേശത്തിന്റെ മധ്യേനിന്ന് ആളുകൾ ഇറങ്ങിവരുന്നു; മറ്റൊരുകൂട്ടം ദേവപ്രശ്നംവെക്കുന്നവരുടെ കരുവേലകത്തിന്റെ സമീപത്തുകൂടി വരുന്നു.”
38 Then Zebul said to him, “Where are your proud words now, you who said, 'Who is Abimelech that we should serve him?' Are these not the men you despised? Go out now and fight against them.”
സെബൂൽ അവനോട്, “നാം അബീമെലെക്കിനെ സേവിക്കേണ്ടതിന് അവൻ ആരെന്നു പറഞ്ഞ നിന്റെ പൊങ്ങച്ചം ഇപ്പോൾ എവിടെ? ഇത് നീ പരിഹസിച്ച പുരുഷന്മാർ അല്ലേ? പോയി, അവരോട് യുദ്ധംചെയ്യുക!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
39 Gaal went out and he was leading the men of Shechem, and he fought Abimelech.
അങ്ങനെ ഗാൽ ശേഖേം പൗരന്മാരെ അബീമെലെക്കിനെതിരേ അണിനിരത്തി;
40 Abimelech chased him, and Gaal fled before him. Many fell with deadly wounds before the entrance to the city gate.
അബീമെലെക്കിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ അവൻ തോറ്റോടി; നഗരകവാടംവരെ ശേഖേം പൗരന്മാരിൽ അനേകർ മുറിവേറ്റുവീണു.
41 Abimelech stayed in Arumah. Zebul forced Gaal and his relatives out of Shechem.
അബീമെലെക്ക് അരൂമയിൽ താമസിച്ചു, സെബൂൽ ഗാലിനെയും സഹോദരന്മാരെയും ശേഖേമിൽനിന്ന് ഓടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.
42 On the next day the people of Shechem went out into the field, and this was reported to Abimelech.
പിറ്റേന്നാൾ ശേഖേമിലെ ജനം വയലിലേക്കുപോയി. അബീമെലെക്കിന് അത് അറിവുകിട്ടി.
43 He took his people, divided them into three units, and they set an ambush in the fields. He looked and saw the people coming out from the city and he attacked and killed them.
അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ ആളുകളെ മൂന്നുകൂട്ടമായി വിഭജിച്ച് വയലിൽ പതിയിരുത്തി. ജനം പട്ടണത്തിൽനിന്ന് പുറപ്പെട്ട് വരുന്നതുകണ്ട്, താനും തന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ളവരും എഴുന്നേറ്റ് അവരെ ആക്രമിച്ചു.
44 Abimelech and the units that were with him attacked and blocked the entrance to the city gate. The other two units attacked all who were in the field and killed them.
പിന്നെ അബീമെലെക്കും കൂടെയുള്ള സംഘവും പാഞ്ഞുചെന്ന് പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ കവാടത്തിൽ നിലയുറപ്പിച്ചു. മറ്റേ രണ്ടുസംഘങ്ങൾ വയലിലുള്ള സകലജനത്തിന്റെയുംനേരേ പാഞ്ഞുചെന്നു; അവരെ സംഹരിച്ചു.
45 Abimelech fought against the city all that day. He captured the city, and killed the people who were in it. He tore down the city walls and spread salt over it.
അബീമെലെക്ക് അന്നുമുഴുവനും പട്ടണത്തോട് യുദ്ധംചെയ്ത് പട്ടണം പിടിച്ച് അതിലെ ജനത്തെ കൊന്നു, പട്ടണം ഇടിച്ചുനിരത്തി അതിൽ ഉപ്പുവിതറി.
46 When all the leaders of the tower of Shechem heard of it, they entered the stronghold of the house of El-Berith.
ശേഖേം ഗോപുരവാസികൾ ഇതു കേട്ട് എല്ലാവരും ഏൽ-ബെരീത്തിന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രമണ്ഡപത്തിൽ കടന്നു.
47 Abimelech was told that all the leaders had gathered together at the tower of Shechem.
ശേഖേം ഗോപുരവാസികൾ എല്ലാവരും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് അബീമെലെക്കിന് അറിവുകിട്ടി.
48 Abimelech went up to Mount Zalmon, he and all the men who were with him. Abimelech took an ax and cut off branches. He put it on his shoulder and ordered the men with him, “What you have seen me do, hurry and do as I have done.”
അബീമെലെക്കും കൂടെയുള്ള ജനവും സൽമോൻ പർവതത്തിൽ കയറി; അദ്ദേഹം കോടാലി എടുത്ത് ഒരു മരത്തിലെ ചില കൊമ്പുകൾ വെട്ടി ചുമലിൽവെച്ചു. തന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ളവരോട്, “വേഗം! ഞാൻ ചെയ്യുന്നതുപോലെതന്നെ നിങ്ങളും ചെയ്യുക!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
49 So every one cut off branches and followed Abimelech. They piled them against the wall of the tower, and they set it on fire, so that all the people of the tower of Shechem also died, about a thousand men and women.
അവരും അതുപോലെ ഓരോരുത്തരും ചില കൊമ്പുകൾ വെട്ടി അതുമായി അബീമെലെക്കിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ചെന്നു. ആ കൊമ്പുകൾ മണ്ഡപത്തോട് ചേർത്തിട്ടു തീകൊളുത്തി. മണ്ഡപം ഉൾപ്പെടെ അവരെ ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ പുരുഷന്മാരും സ്ത്രീകളും ശേഖേം ഗോപുരവാസികളായ ആയിരത്തോളംപേർ മരിച്ചു.
50 Then Abimelech went to Thebez, and he encamped against Thebez and captured it.
അതിനുശേഷം അബീമെലെക്ക് തേബെസിലേക്കു ചെന്ന്, അതിനെ ഉപരോധിച്ച്, ആ പട്ടണം പിടിച്ചു.
51 But there was a strong tower in the city, and all the men and women and all the leaders of the city fled to it and shut themselves in. Then they went up to the roof of the tower.
പട്ടണത്തിനകത്ത് ഉറപ്പുള്ള ഒരു ഗോപുരം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവിടേക്ക് പുരുഷന്മാരും സ്ത്രീകളുമായി പട്ടണത്തിലുള്ളവരെല്ലാം ഓടിക്കടന്നു വാതിലടച്ച് ഗോപുരത്തിന്റെ മുകളിൽ കയറി.
52 Abimelech came to the tower and fought against it, and he came up near to the door of the tower to burn it.
അബീമെലെക്ക് ഗോപുരത്തിനരികെ എത്തി അതിനെ ആക്രമിച്ചു; അത് തീവെച്ച് ചുട്ടുകളയേണ്ടതിന് ഗോപുരവാതിലിന് അടുത്തുചെന്നു.
53 But a woman dropped an upper millstone on Abimelech's head and it cracked his skull.
അപ്പോൾ ഒരു സ്ത്രീ ഒരു തിരികല്ലിൻപിള്ള അബീമെലെക്കിന്റെ തലയിലിട്ട് അവന്റെ തലയോട്ടി തകർത്തുകളഞ്ഞു.
54 Then he called urgently to the young man who was his armor-bearer, and said to him, “Draw your sword and kill me, so no one will say about me, 'A woman killed him.'” So his young man pierced him through, and he died.
ഉടനെ അവൻ തന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകനായ യുവാവിനോട്, “ഒരു സ്ത്രീ എന്നെ കൊന്നു എന്നു പറയാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന് നിന്റെ വാൾ ഊരി എന്നെ കൊല്ലുക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന്റെ ഭൃത്യൻ അവനെ വാൾകൊണ്ട് വെട്ടി. അങ്ങനെ അവൻ മരിച്ചു.
55 When the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they went home.
അബീമെലെക്ക് മരിച്ചെന്നുകണ്ടപ്പോൾ ഇസ്രായേൽജനം വീടുകളിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.
56 So God avenged the evil of Abimelech that he did to his father by murdering his seventy brothers.
അബീമെലെക്ക് തന്റെ എഴുപത് സഹോദരന്മാരെയും കൊന്ന് തന്റെ പിതാവിനോട് ചെയ്ത പാതകത്തിന്, ദൈവം അവനോട് ഇങ്ങനെ പ്രതികാരംചെയ്തു.
57 God made all the evil of the men of Shechem turn back on their own heads and on them came the curse of Jotham son of Jerub Baal.
ശേഖേം നിവാസികളുടെ സകലദുഷ്ടതയ്ക്കും ദൈവം തക്ക ശിക്ഷ നൽകി. അങ്ങനെ യെരൂ-ബാലിന്റെ പുത്രനായ യോഥാമിന്റെ ശാപം അവരുടെമേൽ വന്നു.
