Judges 2
1 The angel of Yahweh went up from Gilgal to Bokim, and said, “I brought you up from Egypt, and have brought you to the land I swore to give to your fathers. I said, 'I will never break my covenant with you.
Thiên sứ của Chúa Hằng Hữu đi từ Ghinh-ganh đến Bô-kim, xuất hiện và nói cùng người Ít-ra-ên: “Ta đã giải thoát các ngươi khỏi Ai Cập, đem vào đất này, đất Ta hứa cho tổ tiên các ngươi. Ta có nói: Ta sẽ không bao giờ hủy bỏ giao ước Ta đã kết với các ngươi,
2 You must make no covenant with those who live in this land. You must tear down their altars.' But you have not listened to my voice. What is this that you have done?
còn các ngươi không được lập hòa ước với dân bản xứ, và phải hủy phá bàn thờ của chúng. Nhưng các ngươi đã không nghe lời Ta. Tại sao các ngươi hành động như vậy được?
3 So now I say, 'I will not drive the Canaanites out before you, but they will become thorns in your sides, and their gods will become a trap for you.'”
Vì thế, Ta sẽ không đuổi các dân ấy đi nữa. Họ sẽ như gai chông đâm bên hông các ngươi, và thần của họ trở thành lưới bẫy gài dưới chân các ngươi.”
4 When the angel of Yahweh spoke these words to all the people of Israel, the people shouted and wept.
Nghe thiên sứ của Chúa Hằng Hữu trách, người Ít-ra-ên đều lên tiếng khóc.
5 They called that place Bokim. There they offered sacrifices to Yahweh.
Vì vậy, nơi ấy được gọi là Bô-kim (nghĩa là “khóc lóc”), rồi họ dâng lễ vật lên Chúa Hằng Hữu tại đó.
6 Now when Joshua had sent the people on their way, the people of Israel each went to the place assigned, to take ownership of their land.
Khi Giô-suê cho dân chúng về, mọi người Ít-ra-ên đều vào nhận sản nghiệp của mình và, vào vùng đất đai mình chiếm cứ.
7 The people served Yahweh during the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him, those who had seen all of Yahweh's great deeds he had done for Israel.
Dân tộc Ít-ra-ên phụng thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu suốt đời Giô-suê và đời của các trưởng lão còn sống sau Giô-suê, là những người đã được chứng kiến những việc phi thường Chúa Hằng Hữu làm cho Ít-ra-ên.
8 Joshua son of Nun the servant of Yahweh, died at the age of 110 years old.
Rồi, Giô-suê, con của Nun, đầy tớ Chúa Hằng Hữu, qua đời lúc 110 tuổi.
9 They buried him within the border of the land he was assigned in Timnath Heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.
Ông được chôn cất ngay trong đất mình, tại Thim-nát Hê-re, trên sườn núi Ép-ra-im về phía bắc Núi Ga-ách.
10 All that generation was also gathered to their fathers. Another generation grew up after them who did not know Yahweh or what he had done for Israel.
Mọi người thuộc thời ấy lần lượt qua đời. Một thế hệ mới lên thay thế, không biết gì đến Chúa Hằng Hữu cũng như các công việc Ngài đã làm cho Ít-ra-ên.
11 The people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh and they served the Baals.
Người Ít-ra-ên phạm tội ác với Chúa: Họ thờ phượng thần tượng Ba-anh.
12 They broke away from Yahweh, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt. They went after other gods, the very gods of the peoples who were around them, and they bowed down to them. They provoked Yahweh to anger because
Họ bỏ Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của tổ tiên mình, Đấng đã giải thoát họ khỏi Ai Cập. Họ đi thờ thần của các dân sống quanh mình, quỳ lạy các thần tượng đó, làm cho Chúa giận.
13 they broke away from Yahweh and worshiped Baal and the Ashtoreths.
Họ bỏ Chúa Hằng Hữu, đi phục vụ Ba-anh và các hình tượng Át-tạt-tê.
14 The anger of Yahweh burned against Israel, and he gave them to the raiders who stole their possessions from them. He sold them as slaves who were held by the strength of their enemies around them, so they could no longer defend themselves against their enemies.
Cơn phẫn nộ của Chúa nổi lên cùng Ít-ra-ên. Ngài để cho họ bị quân thù chung quanh bóc lột, vô phương tự cứu. Ngài bán họ cho các thù nghịch chung quanh nên Ít-ra-ên không còn chống cự nổi kẻ thù.
15 Wherever Israel went out to fight, Yahweh's hand was against them to defeat them, just as he had sworn to them and they were in terrible distress.
Mỗi lần ra trận, tay Chúa Hằng Hữu giáng trên họ, đúng như lời cảnh cáo và lời thề của Ngài. Họ ở trong cảnh khốn cùng tuyệt vọng.
16 Then Yahweh raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who were stealing their possessions.
Chúa Hằng Hữu dấy lên các phán quan để giải cứu họ khỏi tay quân thù áp bức.
17 Yet they would not listen to their judges. They were unfaithful to Yahweh and gave themselves like prostitutes to other gods and worshiped them. They soon turned aside from the way their fathers had lived—those who had obeyed the commandments of Yahweh—but they themselves did not do so.
Thế nhưng họ không chịu nghe lời các phán quan; mà còn đi thông dâm, thờ lạy các thần khác. Họ bỏ con đường cha ông mình đã theo, là con đường tin kính Chúa Hằng Hữu. Họ bất tuân mệnh lệnh của Ngài.
18 When Yahweh raised up judges for them, Yahweh helped the judges and rescued them from the hand of their enemies all the days the judge lived. Yahweh had pity on them as they groaned because of those who oppressed them and afflicted them.
Mỗi lần Chúa dấy lên một phán quan, Ngài phù hộ người ấy, và suốt đời ông ta, Ít-ra-ên được giải cứu khỏi tay quân thù, vì Chúa động lòng xót thương khi nghe tiếng thở than của dân chúng dưới sự đè nén, áp bức.
19 But when the judge died, they would turn away and do things that were even more corrupt than their fathers had done. They would go after other gods to serve them and worship them. They refused to give up any of their evil practices or their stubborn ways.
Nhưng khi phán quan đó chết đi, họ trở lại đường cũ, còn tệ hơn cả tổ phụ nữa. Họ đi theo các thần khác, thờ lạy các thần ấy, không từ bỏ một việc xấu nào, nhưng cứ tiếp tục ngoan cố.
20 The anger of Yahweh burned against Israel; he said, “Because this nation has broken the terms of my covenant that I had set in place for their fathers—because they have not listened to my voice—
Vì thế, Ít-ra-ên làm cho Chúa Hằng Hữu giận. Ngài phán: “Vì dân này vi phạm giao ước Ta đã lập với cha ông họ, không nghe lời Ta,
21 I will not, from now on, drive out from before them any of the nations that Joshua left when he died.
nên Ta sẽ không đuổi các dân tộc Giô-suê còn để sót lại lúc người qua đời.
22 I will do this so that I may test Israel, whether or not they will keep the way of Yahweh and walk in it, as their fathers kept it.”
Ta dùng các dân này để thử nghiệm Ít-ra-ên, xem họ có thận trọng đi theo đường lối của Chúa Hằng Hữu như cha ông họ hay không.”
23 That is why Yahweh left those nations and did not drive them out quickly and give them into the hand of Joshua.
Đó là lý do Chúa Hằng Hữu để các dân ấy còn đó, không đuổi họ đi, cũng không cho quân Giô-suê diệt họ.
