Joshua 3
1 Joshua got up early in the morning, and they set out from Shittim. They came to the Jordan, he and all the people of Israel, and they camped there before they crossed over.
Da machte sich Josua früh auf, und sie zogen aus Sittim und kamen an den Jordan, er und alle Kinder Israel, und blieben daselbst, ehe sie hinüberzogen.
2 After three days, the officers went through the middle of the camp;
Nach drei Tagen aber gingen die Amtleute durch das Lager
3 they commanded the people, “When you see the ark of the covenant of Yahweh your God, and the priests from the Levites carrying it, you must leave this place and follow it.
und geboten dem Volke und sprachen: Wenn ihr die Bundeslade des HERRN, eures Gottes, sehen werdet und die Priester, die Leviten, die sie tragen, so brechet auf von eurem Ort und folget ihr nach!
4 There must be a distance between you and it of about two thousand cubits. Do not come close to it, so that you can see which way to go, since you have not gone this way before.”
Doch soll zwischen euch und ihr etwa zweitausend Ellen Abstand sein. Ihr sollt ihr nicht zu nahe kommen, auf daß ihr wisset, welchen Weg ihr gehen sollt; denn ihr seid den Weg zuvor nicht gegangen.
5 Joshua said to the people, “Consecrate yourselves tomorrow, for Yahweh will do wonders among you.”
Und Josua sprach zum Volk: Heiliget euch, denn morgen wird der HERR unter euch Wunder tun!
6 Then Joshua said to the priests, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass in front of the people.” So they picked up the ark of the covenant and went in front of people.
Und zu den Priestern sprach Josua also: Traget die Lade des Bundes und geht vor dem Volke her! Da trugen sie die Lade des Bundes und gingen vor dem Volke her.
7 Yahweh said to Joshua, “This day I will make you a great man in the eyes of all Israel. They will know that as I was with Moses, I will be with you.
Und der HERR sprach zu Josua: Heute will ich anfangen, dich vor ganz Israel groß zu machen, damit sie wissen, daß, wie ich mit Mose gewesen bin, ich auch mit dir sein werde.
8 You will command the priests who carry the ark of the covenant, 'When you have come to the edge of the waters of the Jordan, you must stand still in the Jordan River.'”
Du aber gebiete den Priestern, welche die Lade des Bundes tragen, und sprich: Wenn ihr bis an das Wasser des Jordan kommt, so stehet still am Jordan!
9 Then Joshua said to the people of Israel, “Come here, and listen to the words of Yahweh your God.
Und Josua sprach zu den Kindern Israel: Kommt herzu und hört die Worte des HERRN, eures Gottes!
10 By this you will know that the living God is among you and will drive out from before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites.
Und er sprach: Daran sollt ihr merken, daß der lebendige Gott unter euch ist, und daß er vor euch die Kanaaniter, Hetiter, Heviter, Pheresiter, Girgasiter, Amoriter und Jebusiter gewiß vertreiben wird:
11 Look! The ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth crosses over ahead of you into the Jordan.
Siehe, die Lade des Bundes des Herrn aller Lande wird vor euch her über den Jordan gehen.
12 Now choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man from each.
So nehmet nun aus den Stämmen Israels zwölf Männer, aus jedem Stamm einen.
13 When the soles of the feet of the priests that carry the ark of Yahweh, the Lord of all the earth, touch the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan will be cut off, and even the waters that flow down from upstream will stop flowing and they will stand in one heap.”
Wenn dann die Fußsohlen der Priester, welche die Lade des HERRN, des Herrn aller Lande, tragen, ins Wasser des Jordan treten, so wird das Wasser des Jordan sich zerteilen, und das Wasser, das von oben herabfließt, wird stehen bleiben wie ein Damm.
14 So when the people set out to cross over the Jordan, the priests that carried the ark of the covenant went ahead of the people.
Als nun das Volk auszog aus seinen Zelten, um über den Jordan zu gehen, und die Priester die Lade des Bundes vor dem Volke her trugen,
15 As soon as those who were carrying the ark had come to the Jordan, and the feet of those who carried the chest were dipped in the edge of the water (now the Jordan overflows all its banks throughout the time of the harvest),
und die, welche die Lade trugen, an den Jordan kamen, und die Priester, welche die Lade trugen, ihre Füße zuäußerst in das Wasser tauchten (der Jordan aber war überfließend an allen seinen Gestaden, die ganze Zeit der Ernte),
16 the waters that flowed down from upstream stood up in one heap. The water stopped flowing from a great distance. The waters stopped flowing from Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan, all the way down to the sea of the Negev, the Salt Sea. The people crossed over near Jericho.
da stand das Wasser, das von oben herabkam, aufgerichtet wie ein Damm, und schwellte an, sehr weit hinauf bei der Stadt Adam, die zur Seite von Zartan liegt; aber das Wasser, welches zum Meer der Ebene hinabfloß, zum Salzmeer, nahm ab und zerfloß. Also ging das Volk hinüber vor Jericho.
17 The priests that carried the ark of the covenant of Yahweh stood on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan until all the people of Israel crossed over on dry ground.
Und die Priester, welche die Bundeslade des HERRN trugen, standen fest auf dem Trockenen, mitten im Jordan; und ganz Israel ging trockenen Fußes hindurch, bis das ganze Volk den Jordan völlig überschritten hatte.
