Joshua 2
1 Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two men out from Shittim as spies. He said, “Go, look over the land, especially Jericho.” They went away and came to the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and they lodged there.
পরে নূনের ছেলে যিহোশূয়, গোপনে দুজন গুপ্তচরকে শিটিম থেকে পাঠালেন। তিনি বললেন, “তোমরা যাও, ওই দেশ, বিশেষ করে যিরীহো নগরটি পর্যবেক্ষণ করো।” তাই তারা রাহব নামক এক বেশ্যার বাড়িতে গিয়ে উঠল ও সেখানে অবস্থান করল।
2 It was told to the king of Jericho, “Look, men of Israel have come here to spy on the land.”
যিরীহোর রাজাকে বলা হল, “দেখুন! কয়েকজন ইস্রায়েলী আজ রাতে এখানে দেশ পর্যবেক্ষণ করার জন্য এসেছে।”
3 The king of Jericho sent word to Rahab and said, “Bring out the men who have come to you who entered your house, for they have come to spy on the whole land.”
তাই যিরীহোর রাজা, রাহবের কাছে এই খবর পাঠালেন: “যে লোকেরা তোমার কাছে এসে তোমার ঘরে প্রবেশ করেছে, তাদের বের করে আনো, কারণ তারা সমস্ত দেশ পর্যবেক্ষণ করতে এসেছে।”
4 But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them. She replied, “Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they were from.
কিন্তু সেই নারী তাদের দুজনকে লুকিয়ে রেখেছিল। সে বলল, “সত্যিই সেই দুজন লোক আমার কাছে এসেছিল, কিন্তু আমি জানতাম না, তারা কোথা থেকে এসেছিল।
5 They left when it was dusk, when it was time for the city gate to shut. I do not know where they went. You will probably catch them if you hurry after them.”
সূর্য অস্ত যাওয়ার সময়, যখন নগর-দুয়ার বন্ধ হওয়ার সময় হল, ওই লোকেরা চলে গেল। আমি জানি না, তারা কোন পথে গেল। তাদের পিছনে দ্রুত তাড়া করে যাও। তোমরা হয়তো তাদের নাগাল পাবে।”
6 But she had taken them up to the roof and hidden them with the stalks of flax that she had laid out on the roof.
(কিন্তু সে তাদের ছাদের উপরে নিয়ে গিয়ে, সেখানে ছাদের উপরে তার রাখা মসিনার ডাঁটার পাঁজায় তাদের লুকিয়ে রেখেছিল)
7 So the men pursued them on the road that leads to the fords of the Jordan. The gate was shut as soon as the pursuers went out.
তাই ওই লোকেরা সেই গুপ্তচরদের খুঁজে বের করার জন্য তাড়া করে গেল। তারা জর্ডন নদী পার হওয়ার জন্য পারঘাটের অভিমুখে চলে গেল। তারা যাওয়া মাত্র নগর-দুয়ার বন্ধ হল।
8 The men had not yet lain down for the night, when she came up to them on the roof.
রাতে, ওই দুজন গুপ্তচর শুতে যাওয়ার আগে, রাহব ছাদে তাদের কাছে গেল
9 She said, “I know that Yahweh has given you the land and that the fear of you has come upon us. All those who live in the land will melt away before you.
ও তাদের বলল, “আমি জানি, সদাপ্রভু এই দেশ তোমাদের হাতে দিয়েছেন। আমাদের মধ্যে এক মহা ভয় এসে পড়েছে। সেই কারণে, তোমাদের জন্য এই দেশে বসবাসকারী প্রত্যেকের হৃদয় ভয়ে গলে গিয়েছে।
10 We have heard how Yahweh dried up the water of the Sea of Reeds for you when you came out of Egypt. We also heard what you did to the two kings of the Amorites on other side of the Jordan—Sihon and Og—whom you completely destroyed.
আমরা শুনেছি, যখন তোমরা মিশর থেকে বের হয়ে এসেছিলে, তোমাদের জন্য সদাপ্রভু কীভাবে লোহিত সাগরের জল শুকিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন। আরও শুনেছি, জর্ডন নদীর পূর্বদিকে, ইমোরীয়দের দুই রাজা সীহোন ও ওগের প্রতি তোমরা কী করেছিলে। তোমরা তাদের সম্পূর্ণরূপে ধ্বংস করেছ।
11 As soon as we had heard it, our hearts melted and there was no courage left in anyone—for Yahweh your God, he is God in heaven above and on the earth below.
আমরা যখন সেকথা শুনলাম, আমাদের হৃদয় গলে গেল, তোমাদের জন্য আমাদের প্রত্যেকের সাহস নষ্ট হয়ে গেল, কারণ তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু উপরে স্বর্গের ও নিচে পৃথিবীর ঈশ্বর।
12 Now then, please swear to me by Yahweh that, just as I have been kind to you, you will also deal kindly with my father's house. Give me a sure sign
“তাই এখন, দয়া করে তোমরা আমার কাছে সদাপ্রভুর নামে শপথ করো যে, তোমরা আমার পরিবারবর্গের উপরে করুণা প্রদর্শন করবে, কারণ আমিও তোমাদের প্রতি করুণা প্রদর্শন করেছি। আমাকে একটি নিশ্চিত চিহ্ন দাও
13 that you will spare the lives of my father, mother, brothers, sisters and all their families, and that you will save us from death.”
যে, তোমরা আমার বাবা ও মা, আমার ভাইদের ও বোনেদের এবং তাদের সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত সকলের প্রাণভিক্ষা দেবে ও মৃত্যু থেকে আমাদের রক্ষা করবে।”
14 The men said to her, “Our life for yours, even to death! If you do not speak about our business, then, when Yahweh gives us this land we will be merciful and faithful to you.”
সেই গুপ্তচরেরা তাকে আশ্বাস দিল, “তোমাদের প্রাণের পরিবর্তে আমাদের প্রাণ যাক। আমরা যা করতে চলেছি, তা যদি তুমি কাউকে না বলো, তবে সদাপ্রভু যখন এই দেশ আমাদের দেবেন, তখন আমরা তোমাদের সঙ্গে বিশ্বস্ততাপূর্বক সদয় ব্যবহার করব।”
15 So she let them down out through the window using a rope. The house in which she lived was built into the wall of the city.
তাই রাহব জানালার পথে ওই দুজনকে একটি দড়ি দিয়ে নামিয়ে দিল, কারণ যে বাড়িতে সে বসবাস করত তা নগর-প্রাচীরের অংশবিশেষ ছিল।
16 She said to them, “Go in the hills and hide or the pursuers will find you. Hide there for three days until the pursuers have returned. Then go on your way.”
সে তাদের বলল, “তোমরা পাহাড়ে উঠে যাও, যেন তোমাদের পশ্চাদ্ধাবনকারীরা তোমাদের সন্ধান না পায়। তারা ফিরে না আসা পর্যন্ত তিন দিন তোমরা সেখানেই নিজেদের লুকিয়ে রাখো, পরে নিজেদের পথে চলে যাবে।”
17 The men said to her, “We will be not be bound to the promises of the oath you made us swear to, if you do not do this.
ওই লোকেরা তাকে বলল, “এই শপথ, যা তুমি আমাদের নিতে বাধ্য করেছ, তা থেকে আমরা মুক্ত হব,
18 When we come into the land, you must tie this scarlet rope in the window through which you let us down, and you will gather into the house your father and mother, your brothers and all your father's household.
যদি আমাদের এই দেশে প্রবেশ করার সময়, যে জানালা দিয়ে তুমি আমাদের নামিয়ে দিলে, তাতে এই টকটকে লাল রংয়ের দড়িটি বেঁধে না রাখো। সেই সঙ্গে তুমি তোমার বাবা ও মা, তোমার ভাইরা ও তাদের সমস্ত পরিজন তোমার এই বাড়িতে এসে আশ্রয় নেবে।
19 Whoever goes out of the doors of your house into the street, their blood will be upon their own heads and we will be guiltless. But if a hand is laid upon any who is with you in the house, his blood will be on our head.
যদি কেউ তোমার বাড়ির বাইরে পথে যায়, তার রক্তের দায় তারই মাথায় বর্তাবে; আমরা তার দায় নেব না। কিন্তু তোমার বাড়ির ভিতরে যারা থাকে, তাদের কারও উপরে আমাদের কেউ যদি হাত উঠায়, তার রক্তের দায় আমাদের মাথায় বর্তাবে।
20 But if you speak about our business, we will be free from the oath you made us swear.”
কিন্তু আমরা যা করতে চলেছি, তা যদি তুমি প্রকাশ করে দাও, তবে যে শপথে তুমি আমাদের আবদ্ধ করেছ, তা থেকে আমরা মুক্ত হব।”
21 Rahab replied, “May what you say be done.” She sent them away and they left. Then she tied the scarlet rope in the window.
“আমি রাজি,” রাহব উত্তর দিল। “তোমরা যেমন বলেছ, তেমনই হবে।” এভাবে সে তাদের বিদায় দিল, ও তারা চলে গেল। সে তখন ওই টকটকে লাল রংয়ের দড়িটি তার জানালায় বেঁধে দিল।
22 They left and went up into the hills and they stayed there three days until their pursuers returned. The pursuers searched all along the road and found nothing.
তারা প্রস্থান করে পাহাড়ি এলাকায় চলে গেল। সেখানে তারা তিন দিন অবস্থান করল। তাদের পশ্চাদ্ধাবনকারীরা সমস্ত পথ ধরে তাদের খুঁজে বেড়াল এবং তাদের সন্ধান না পেয়ে নগরে ফিরে গেল।
23 The two men returned and crossed over and came back to Joshua son of Nun, and they told him everything that had happened to them.
পরে সেই দুজন লোক ফিরে গেল এবং পাহাড়ের পাদদেশে নেমে গিয়ে জর্ডন নদী অতিক্রম করে নূনের ছেলে যিহোশূয়ের কাছে চলে গেল। তাদের প্রতি যা কিছু ঘটেছিল, তারা সে সমস্তই তাঁকে বলল।
24 They said to Joshua, “Truly Yahweh has given this land to us. All the inhabitants of the land are melting away because of us.”
তারা যিহোশূয়কে বলল, “সদাপ্রভু নিশ্চিতভাবেই এই সমস্ত দেশ আমাদের হাতে দিয়েছেন; আমাদের কারণে সেখানকার সমস্ত মানুষের হৃদয় ভয়ে গলে গিয়েছে।”
