John 9
1 Now as Jesus passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.
Comme Jésus passait, il vit un homme aveugle de naissance.
2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, so that he was born blind?”
Et ses disciples lui demandèrent: Maître, qui a péché, cet homme ou ses parents, pour qu'il soit né aveugle?
3 Jesus answered, “Neither did this man sin, nor his parents, but so that the works of God would be revealed in him.
Jésus répondit: Ce n'est pas que lui ou ses parents aient péché, mais c'est afin que les oeuvres de Dieu soient manifestées en lui.
4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day. Night is coming when no one will be able to work.
Tandis qu'il fait jour, il me faut accomplir les oeuvres de Celui qui m'a envoyé; la nuit vient, dans laquelle personne ne peut travailler.
5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
Pendant que je suis dans le monde, je suis la lumière du monde.
6 After Jesus said these things, he spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and smeared the mud on his eyes.
Ayant dit cela, il cracha à terre et fit de la boue avec sa salive; et il oignit de cette boue les yeux de l'aveugle.
7 He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam,” (which is translated “Sent”). So the man went away, washed, and came back seeing.
Puis il lui dit: Va; lave-toi au réservoir de Siloé — mot qui signifie Envoyé. — Il y alla donc et se lava, et il revint voyant clair.
8 Then the man's neighbors and those who had seen him previously as a beggar were saying, “Is not this the man that used to sit and beg?”
Ses voisins, et ceux qui l'avaient vu auparavant demander l'aumône, disaient: N'est-ce pas celui qui se tenait assis et qui mendiait?
9 Some said, “It is he.” Others said, “No, but he is like him.” But he said, “It is me.”
Les uns disaient: C'est lui. D'autres disaient: Non, mais c'est quelqu'un qui lui ressemble. Lui disait: C'est bien moi.
10 They said to him, “Then how were your eyes opened?”
Ils lui demandèrent alors: Comment tes yeux ont-ils été ouverts?
11 He answered, “The man who is called Jesus made mud and smeared it on my eyes and said to me, 'Go to Siloam and wash.' So I went and washed, and I received my sight.”
Il répondit; Cet homme, qu'on appelle Jésus, a fait de la boue; il en a oint mes yeux, et il m'a dit: Va au réservoir de Siloé, et lave-toi. J'y suis donc allé, je m'y suis lavé, et je vois.
12 They said to him, “Where is he?” He replied, “I do not know.”
Ils lui dirent: Où est cet homme? Il répondit: Je ne sais pas.
13 They brought the man who used to be blind to the Pharisees.
Ils amenèrent aux pharisiens celui qui avait été aveugle.
14 Now it was the Sabbath day when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.
Or, c'était un jour de sabbat que Jésus avait fait de la boue et avait ouvert les yeux de cet homme.
15 Then again the Pharisees asked him how he had received his sight. He said to them, “He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I now can see.”
Les pharisiens lui demandèrent à leur tour comment il avait recouvré la vue. Il leur répondit: Il m'a mis de la boue sur les yeux; je me suis lavé, et je vois.
16 Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God because he does not keep the Sabbath.” Others said, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” So there was a division among them.
Alors quelques-uns des pharisiens dirent: Cet homme ne vient point de la part de Dieu, puisqu'il n'observe pas le sabbat. Mais d'autres disaient: Comment un pécheur pourrait-il faire de tels miracles? Et ils étaient divisés entre eux.
17 So they asked the blind man again, “What do you say about him, since he opened your eyes?” The blind man said, “He is a prophet.”
Alors ils demandèrent de nouveau à l'aveugle: Et toi, que dis-tu de cet homme, qui t'a ouvert les yeux? Il répondit: C'est un prophète!
18 Now the Jews still did not believe about him that he was blind and had received his sight until they called the parents of him who had received his sight.
Mais les Juifs ne crurent pas que cet homme eût été aveugle et qu'il eût recouvré la vue, jusqu'à ce qu'ils eussent fait venir son père et sa mère.
19 They asked the parents, “Is this your son whom you say was born blind? How then does he now see?”
Ils les interrogèrent et leur dirent: Est-ce bien là votre fils, que vous dites être né aveugle? Comment donc voit-il maintenant?
20 So his parents answered them, “We know that this is our son and that he was born blind.
Ses parents répondirent: Nous savons que c'est là notre fils, et qu'il est né aveugle;
21 How he now sees, we do not know, and who opened his eyes, we do not know. Ask him, he is an adult. He can speak for himself.”
mais comment il se fait qu'il voit maintenant, nous ne le savons pas. Nous ne savons pas non plus qui lui a ouvert les yeux. Interrogez-le; il a de l'âge, il s'expliquera lui-même.
22 His parents said these things, because they were afraid of the Jews. For the Jews had already agreed that if anyone would confess him to be the Christ, he would be thrown out of the synagogue.
Ses parents dirent cela, parce qu'ils craignaient les Juifs; car les Juifs avaient déjà décidé que si quelqu'un reconnaissait Jésus pour le Christ, il serait chassé de la synagogue.
23 Because of this, his parents said, “He is an adult, ask him.”
C'est pour cela que ses parents dirent: Il a de l'âge, interrogez-le.
24 So for a second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”
Les pharisiens appelèrent donc pour la seconde fois l'homme qui avait été aveugle, et ils lui dirent: Donne gloire à Dieu! Nous savons que cet homme est un pécheur.
25 Then that man replied, “I do not know if he is a sinner. One thing I do know: I was blind, and now I see.”
Il répondit: Je ne sais si c'est un pécheur; je sais une chose, c'est que j'étais aveugle, et que maintenant je vois.
26 Then they said to him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”
Ils lui dirent encore: Que t'a-t-il fait? Comment t'a-t-il ouvert les yeux?
27 He answered, “I have told you already, and you did not listen! Why do you want to hear it again? You do not want to become his disciples too, do you?
Il leur répondit: Je vous l'ai déjà dit, et vous ne m'avez pas écouté. Pourquoi voulez-vous l'entendre encore une fois? Voulez-vous, vous aussi, devenir ses disciples?
28 They insulted him and said, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.
Alors ils se mirent à l'injurier, et ils lui dirent: C'est toi qui es son disciple; nous, nous sommes les disciples de Moïse.
29 We know that God has spoken to Moses, but we do not know where this one is from.”
Nous savons que Dieu a parlé à Moïse; mais celui-ci, nous ne savons d'où il est.
30 The man answered and said to them, “This is remarkable, that you do not know where he is from, and yet he opened my eyes.
Cet homme répondit: C'est là ce qui est étonnant, que vous ne sachiez pas d'où il est, alors qu'il m'a ouvert les yeux!
31 We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if someone is devout and does his will, he listens to him.
Nous savons que Dieu n'exauce pas les pécheurs; mais si quelqu'un craint Dieu et fait sa volonté, il l'exauce.
32 Since the world began it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind. (aiōn g165)
Jamais on n'a entendu dire que quelqu'un ait ouvert les yeux d'un aveugle-né. (aiōn g165)
33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”
Si cet homme ne venait pas de la part de Dieu, il ne pourrait rien faire.
34 They answered and said to him, “You were completely born in sins, and you are teaching us?” Then they threw him out.
Ils lui répondirent: Tu es né entièrement dans le péché, et tu veux nous enseigner! Puis ils le jetèrent dehors.
35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out of the synagogue. He found him and said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
Jésus apprit qu'on l'avait chassé; et, l'ayant rencontré, il lui dit: Crois-tu au Fils de Dieu?
36 He replied and said, “Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?”
Il répondit: Qui est-il, Seigneur, pour que je croie en lui?
37 Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and it is the one who is speaking with you.”
Jésus lui dit: Tu l'as vu, et c'est lui-même qui te parle!
38 The man said, “Lord, I believe” and he worshiped him.
Il reprit: Je crois. Seigneur! Et il se prosterna devant lui.
39 Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world so that those who do not see may see and so that those who see may become blind.”
Alors Jésus dit: Je suis venu dans le monde pour exercer ce jugement: que ceux qui ne voient point, voient, et que ceux qui voient, deviennent aveugles.
40 Some of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things and asked him, “Are we also blind?”
Ceux des pharisiens qui étaient auprès de lui entendirent cela, et ils lui dirent: Et nous, sommes-nous aussi des aveugles?
41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin, but now you say, 'We see,' so your sin remains.”
Jésus leur répondit: Si vous étiez aveugles, vous seriez sans péché, mais comme vous dites: Nous voyons. — c'est pour cela que votre péché subsiste.
