< Job 4 >
1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
Eliifaaz namichi Teemaan sun akkana jedhee deebise:
2 If anyone tries to speak with you, will you be impatient? But who can stop himself from speaking?
“Yoo namni tokko sitti dubbachuu yaale, ati ni komattaa? Garuu eenyutu dubbachuu dhiisa?
3 See, you have instructed many; you have strengthened weak hands.
Ati akka nama baayʼee barsiifte, akka harka dadhabaa illee jajjabeessite yaadadhu.
4 Your words have supported him who was falling; you have made feeble knees firm.
Dubbiin kee warra gatantaran gargaaree dhaabeera; atis jilba laafe jabeessiteerta.
5 But now trouble has come to you, and you are weary; it touches you, and you are troubled.
Amma garuu rakkinni sirra gaʼe; atis abdii kutatteerta; rakkinni si miidheera; atis rifatteerta;
6 Is not your fear your confidence, and the integrity of your ways your hope?
Waaqa sodaachuun kee irkoo kee, qajeelinni karaa keetiis abdii kee mitii?
7 Think about this, please: Who has ever perished when innocent? Or when were the upright people ever cut off?
“Ammas yaadadhu; namni qulqulluun takkumaa badee beekaa? Qajeelonni eessatti badanii beeku?
8 According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap it.
Akka ani hubadhetti warri waan hamaa qotatan, kanneen waan hamaa facaasanis isuma haammatu.
9 By the breath of God they perish; by the blast of his anger they are consumed.
Isaanis hafuura Waaqni isaanitti baafatuun badu; hafuuraa dheekkamsa isaaniitiinis ni barbadeeffamu.
10 The roaring of the lion, the voice of the fierce lion, the teeth of the young lions—they are broken.
Leenci ni aada; ni gururiʼas; ilkaan leenca saafelaa garuu ni caccaba.
11 The old lion perishes for lack of victims; the cubs of the lioness are scattered everywhere.
Leenci jabaan waan adamsu dhabee ni duʼa; ilmaan leenca dhaltuus ni bittinnaaʼu.
12 Now a certain matter was secretly brought to me, and my ear received a whisper about it.
“Dubbiin tokko icciitiidhaan naa fidame; gurri koos asaasa isaa dhagaʼe.
13 Then came thoughts from visions in the night, when deep sleep falls on people.
Abjuu halkanii sodaachisaa keessa, yommuu hirribni cimaan nama qabatutti,
14 It was at night when fear and trembling came upon me, and all my bones shook.
sodaa fi hollachuun na qabatee lafee koo hunda raase.
15 Then a spirit passed before my face, and the hair of my flesh stood up.
Hafuurri luffi jedhee fuula koo dura darbe; rifeensi dhagna koos kaʼee dhaabate.
16 The spirit stood still, but I could not discern its appearance. A form was before my eyes; there was silence, and I heard a voice that said,
Innis ni dhaabate; ani garuu inni maal akka taʼe hubachuu hin dandeenye. Fakkiin tokko ija koo dura dhaabate; anis sagalee tasgabbii kan akkana jedhu tokkon dhagaʼe:
17 “Can a mortal man be more righteous than God? Can a man be more pure than his Maker?
‘Namni duʼa hin oolle, Waaqa caalaa qajeelaa taʼuu dandaʼaa? Namni Uumaa isaa caalaa qulqulluu taʼuu dandaʼaa?
18 See, if God puts no trust in his servants; if he accuses his angels of folly,
Waaqni tajaajiltoota isaa hin amanatu; ergamoota isaas balleessaa isaaniitiin ni gaafata;
19 how much more is this true of those who live in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed sooner than a moth?
yoos warri manneen suphee keessa jiraatan, warri hundeen isaanii biyyoo taʼe, warri bilii caalaa burkutaaʼan immoo akkam haa taʼan ree?
20 Between morning and evening they are destroyed; they perish forever without anyone noticing them.
Isaan ganamaa fi galgala gidduutti burkutaaʼu; tasumas bara baraan ni badu.
21 Are not their tent cords plucked up among them? They die; they die without wisdom.
Akka isaan ogummaa malee duʼaniif funyoon dunkaana isaanii hin luqqifamnee?’
