Job 37
1 Indeed, my heart trembles at this; it is moved out of its place.
Mon cœur même à cause de cela est en émotion, et sort [comme] de sa place.
2 Hear, oh, hear the noise of his voice, the sound that goes out from his mouth.
Ecoutez attentivement et en tremblant le bruit qu'il fait, et le son éclatant qui sort de sa bouche.
3 He sends it out under the whole sky, and he sends out his lightning to the edges of the earth.
Il le fait aller sous tous les cieux, et son feu étincelant jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre.
4 A voice roars after it; he thunders with the voice of his majesty; he does not restrain the lightning bolts when his voice is heard.
Après lui s'élève un grand bruit; il tonne de sa voix magnifique, et il ne tarde point après que sa voix a été ouïe.
5 God thunders marvelously with his voice; he does great things that we cannot comprehend.
Le [Dieu] Fort tonne prodigieusement par sa voix, [et] il fait des choses grandes, que nous ne saurions comprendre.
6 For he says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth'; likewise to the rain shower, 'Become a great shower of rain.'
Car il dit à la neige: Sois sur la terre; et [il le dit aussi] à l'ondée de la pluie, à l'ondée, dis-je, des pluies de sa force.
7 He stops the hand of every man from working, so that all people whom he has made may see his deeds.
Alors il fait que chacun se renferme chez soi pour reconnaître tous les gens qu'il a à son ouvrage.
8 Then the beasts go into hiding and stay in their dens.
Les bêtes se retirent dans les tanières, et se tiennent dans leurs repaires.
9 The storm comes from its chamber in the south and the cold from the scattering winds in the north.
Le vent orageux vient du fond du Midi; et le froid vient des vents du Septentrion.
10 By the breath of God ice is given; the expanse of the waters is frozen like metal.
Le [Dieu] Fort par son souffle donne la glace, et les eaux qui se répandaient au large, sont mises à l'étroit.
11 Indeed, he weighs down the thick cloud with moisture; he scatters his lightning through the clouds.
Il lasse aussi la nuée à force d'arroser; et il écarte les nuées par sa lumière.
12 He swirls the clouds around by his guidance, so that they may do whatever he commands them above the surface of the whole world.
Et elles font plusieurs tours selon ses desseins pour faire tout ce qu'il leur a commandé, sur la face de la terre habitable.
13 He makes all of this happen; sometimes it happens for correction, sometimes for his land, and sometimes as acts of covenant faithfulness.
Il les fait venir, soit pour s'en servir de verge, soit pour la terre, soit pour répandre ses bienfaits.
14 Listen to this, Job; stop and think about God's marvelous deeds.
Fais attention à ceci, Job; arrête-toi; considère les merveilles du [Dieu] Fort.
15 Do you know how God establishes the clouds and makes the lightning bolts to flash in them?
Sais-tu comment Dieu les arrange, et comment il fait briller la lumière de sa nuée?
16 Do you understand the floating of the clouds, the marvelous deeds of God, who is perfect in knowledge?
Connais-tu le balancement des nuées, et les merveilles de celui qui est parfait en science?
17 Do you understand how your garments become hot when the land is still because the wind comes from the south?
Pourquoi tes vêtements sont chauds, quand il donne du relâche à la terre par le vent du Midi?
18 Can you spread out the sky as he can— the sky, which is as strong as a mirror of cast metal?
As-tu étendu avec lui les cieux, qui sont fermes comme un miroir de fonte?
19 Teach us what we should say to him, for we cannot lay out our arguments in order because of the darkness of our minds.
Montre-nous ce que nous lui dirons; car nous ne saurions rien dire par ordre à cause de nos ténèbres.
20 Should he be told that I wish to speak with him? Would a person wish to be swallowed up?
Lui racontera-t-on quand j'aurai parlé? S'il y a un homme qui en parle, certainement il en sera englouti.
21 Now, people cannot look at the sun when it is bright in the sky after the wind has passed through and has cleared it of its clouds.
Et maintenant, on ne voit point la lumière, quand elle resplendit dans les cieux; après que le vent y a passé, et qu'il les a nettoyés.
22 Out of the north comes golden splendor— over God is fearsome majesty.
[Et que le temps qui reluit comme] l'or, est venu du Septentrion. Il y a en Dieu une majesté redoutable.
23 As for the Almighty, we cannot find him! He is great in power; he does not oppress justice and abundant righteousness.
C'est le Tout-puissant; on ne le saurait comprendre; il est grand en puissance, en jugement, et en abondance de justice; il n'opprime personne.
24 Therefore, people fear him. He does not pay any attention to those who are wise in their own minds.”
C'est pourquoi les hommes le craignent; mais il ne les voit pas tous sages de cœur.
