Job 28
1 Surely there is a mine for silver, a place where they refine gold.
Denn das Silber hat seinen Fundort und das Gold seinen Ort, wo man es läutert.
2 Iron is taken out of the earth; copper is smelted out of the stone.
Eisen wird aus der Erde gegraben und Kupfer schmelzt man aus Gestein.
3 A man sets an end to darkness and searches out, to the farthest limit, the stones in obscurity and thick darkness.
Man macht der Finsternis ein Ende und forscht alles vollkommen aus, die Steine, die in Finsternis und Todesschatten liegen.
4 He breaks open a shaft away from where people live, places that are forgotten by anyone's foot. He hangs far away from people; he swings to and fro.
Einen Schacht bricht man auf, wo kein Wandersmann durchgeht; auf unbetretenen Pfaden lassen sie sich hinab und schweben ferne von den Menschen.
5 As for the earth, out of which comes bread, it is turned up below as if by fire.
Aus der Erde wächst Brot hervor, und unter ihr ist's wie vom Feuer durchwühlt.
6 Its stones are the place where sapphires are found, and its dust contains gold.
In ihren Steinen wird Saphir gefunden und Gold in ihren Schollen.
7 No bird of prey knows the path to it, nor has the falcon's eye seen it.
Ein Pfad [ist's], den kein Raubvogel kennt, und den auch des Habichts Auge nicht erspäht,
8 The proud animals have not walked such a path, nor has the fierce lion passed there.
den auch kein Raubtier betritt, darauf der Löwe nicht schreitet.
9 A man lays his hand on the flinty rock; he overturns mountains by their roots.
Der Mensch legt seine Hand an den harten Felsen und durchwühlt die Gründe der Berge.
10 He cuts out channels among the rocks; his eye sees every valuable thing there.
Er treibt Stollen durch die Felsen, und sein Auge ersieht alles, was köstlich ist.
11 He ties up the streams so they do not run; what is hidden there he brings out to the light.
Damit sie nicht tränen, verstopft er die Wasserrinnen; das Verborgene bringt er ans Licht.
12 Where will wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding?
Aber wo wird die Weisheit gefunden, und welches ist der Ort des Verstandes?
13 Man does not know its price; neither is it found in the land of the living.
Der Mensch kennt den Weg zu ihr nicht, im Lande der Lebendigen wird sie nicht gefunden.
14 The deep waters under the earth say, 'It is not in me'; the sea says, 'It is not with me.'
Die Tiefe spricht: «Sie ist nicht in mir», und das Meer: «Sie ist nicht bei mir.»
15 It cannot be gotten for gold; neither can silver be weighed as its price.
Sie wird mit keinem Geld bezahlt und nicht mit Silber aufgewogen.
16 It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with precious onyx or sapphire.
Um Gold von Ophir ist sie nicht zu haben, auch nicht um köstlichen Schohamstein und Saphir.
17 Gold and crystal cannot equal it in worth; neither can it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.
Gold und Glas kommt ihr nicht gleich, noch wird sie um goldenes Gerät eingetauscht.
18 No mention is worth making of coral or jasper; indeed, the price of wisdom is more than rubies.
Korallen und Kristall sind nichts gegen sie, und der Besitz der Weisheit geht über Perlen.
19 The topaz of Cush does not equal it; neither can it be valued in terms of pure gold.
Der Topas aus Äthiopien ist ihr nicht zu vergleichen, mit reinem Golde wird sie nicht aufgewogen.
20 From where, then, comes wisdom? Where is the place of understanding?
Woher kommt denn die Weisheit, und welches ist der Ort des Verstandes?
21 Wisdom is hidden from the eyes of all living things and is kept hidden from the birds of the heavens.
Sie ist verborgen vor den Augen aller Lebendigen und vor den Vögeln des Himmels versteckt.
22 Destruction and Death say, 'We have heard just a rumor about it with our ears.'
Der Abgrund und der Tod sprechen: Wir haben mit unsern Ohren von ihr gehört.
23 God understands the way to it; he knows its place.
Gott weiß ihren Weg, und er kennt ihren Ort.
24 For he looks to the very ends of the earth and sees under all the heavens.
Denn er schaut bis zu den Enden der Erde und sieht alles, was unter dem Himmel ist.
25 He made the force of the wind and parceled out the waters by measure.
Als er dem Winde sein Gewicht gab und den Wassern ihr Maß,
26 He made a decree for the rain and a path for the thunder.
als er dem Regen sein Ziel setzte und dem Wetterstrahl seinen Weg:
27 Then he saw wisdom and announced it; he established it, indeed, and he examined it.
da hat er sie gesehen und durchmustert, sie bereitet und erforscht
28 To people he said, 'See, the fear of the Lord—that is wisdom; to depart from evil is understanding.'”
und hat zum Menschen gesagt: Siehe, die Furcht des Herrn, das ist Weisheit, und vom Bösen weichen, das ist Verstand!
