Job 1
1 There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and Job was blameless and upright, one who feared God and turned from evil.
Có một người tên Gióp sống tại đất U-xơ. Ông là người không chê trách vào đâu được—một người hoàn toàn chính trực. Ông kính sợ Đức Chúa Trời và tránh xa tội ác.
2 There were born to him seven sons and three daughters.
Ông có bảy con trai và ba con gái.
3 He possessed seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred pairs of oxen, and five hundred donkeys and a great many servants. He was the man who was the greatest of all the people of the East.
Tài sản gồm 7.000 chiên, 3.000 lạc đà, 500 cặp bò, và 500 lừa cái. Ông có rất nhiều đầy tớ. Ông là người giàu có nhất Đông phương.
4 On each son's assigned day, he would give a feast in his house. They would send and call for their three sisters to eat and drink with them.
Các con trai của Gióp thường luân phiên mở tiệc tại nhà riêng và mời ba chị em gái tham dự.
5 When the days of the feast were over, Job would send for them and he would consecrate them. He would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings for each of his children, for he would say, “It may be that my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” Job always did this.
Sau khi các ngày tiệc kết thúc—có khi kéo dài nhiều ngày—Gióp sai gọi các con về để làm lễ thanh tẩy. Ông thức dậy sớm dâng tế lễ thiêu cho mỗi người con vì Gióp thầm nghĩ rằng: “Có thể con cái ta phạm tội và xúc phạm Đức Chúa Trời trong lòng!” Gióp thường làm lễ thanh tẩy như vậy.
6 Then it was the day when the sons of God came to present themselves before Yahweh. Satan also came with them.
Một hôm, các thiên sứ đến chầu Chúa Hằng Hữu, Sa-tan cùng đến với họ.
7 Yahweh said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Then Satan answered Yahweh and said, “From wandering on the earth, from going back and forth on it.”
Chúa Hằng Hữu hỏi Sa-tan: “Ngươi từ đâu đến đây?” Sa-tan trả lời Chúa Hằng Hữu “Tôi lang thang trên đất, ngắm nhìn mọi việc xảy ra.” Chúa Hằng Hữu hỏi Sa-tan:
8 Yahweh said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and turns from evil.”
“Ngươi có thấy Gióp, đầy tớ Ta không? Khắp đất không ai bằng Gióp. Đó là một người trọn lành—một người hoàn toàn chính trực, kính sợ Đức Chúa Trời, và tránh xa điều ác.”
9 Then Satan answered Yahweh and said, “Does Job fear God without reason?
Sa-tan đáp lời Chúa Hằng Hữu: “Đúng, nhưng Gióp kính sợ Đức Chúa Trời không phải là vô cớ?
10 Have you not put a barrier around him, around his house, and around all that is his from every side? You have blessed the deeds of his hands, and his cattle have burst forth in the land.
Vì Chúa đã làm hàng rào bảo vệ chung quanh ông, nhà cửa, và mọi tài sản. Chúa ban phước lành cho công việc của tay ông. Hãy xem ông giàu thế nào!
11 But now stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and see if he does not curse you to your face.”
Nếu Chúa thử đưa tay hủy hoại tài sản, chắc chắn ông sẽ nguyền rủa Chúa ngay!”
12 Yahweh said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your hand. Only against him himself do not stretch out your hand.” Then Satan went away from the presence of Yahweh.
Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Sa-tan: “Được, ngươi có thể thử người, tất cả những gì người có thuộc quyền ngươi, nhưng đừng đụng vào thân xác người!” Vậy Sa-tan rời khỏi Chúa Hằng Hữu.
13 It came about that on a certain day, his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house.
Một hôm, khi các con trai và con gái của Gióp đang tiệc tùng tại nhà người anh cả,
14 A messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were feeding beside them.
bỗng một đầy tớ đến báo tin cho Gióp: “Đàn bò của ông đang cày, đàn lừa đang ăn cỏ,
15 Then the Sabeans fell on them and took them away. As for the servants, they have struck them with the edge of the sword. I alone have escaped to tell you.”
thì người Sê-ba tấn công. Họ cướp hết bò lừa, và giết tất cả đầy tớ. Chỉ một mình con thoát khỏi chạy về đây trình báo với ông.”
16 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God fell from the heavens and burned up the sheep and the servants. I alone have escaped to tell you.”
Trong khi người này đang nói, thì một đầy tớ khác chạy đến báo: “Một ngọn lửa của Đức Chúa Trời từ trời rơi xuống, thiêu chết cả bầy chiên và các mục đồng. Chỉ một mình con thoát khỏi chạy về đây trình báo với ông.”
17 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three groups, attacked the camels, and have taken them away. As for the servants, they have struck them with the edge of the sword. I alone have escaped to tell you.”
Trong khi người ấy chưa dứt, thì một đầy tớ thứ ba đến thưa: “Ba đội quân Canh-đê đã đánh cướp hết lạc đà và giết tất cả nô bộc. Chỉ có một mình con thoát khỏi chạy về đây trình báo với ông.”
18 While he was yet speaking, another also came and said, “Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house.
Trong khi người ấy còn đang nói, thì một đầy tớ nữa chạy đến báo: “Các con trai và con gái của ông đang dự tiệc trong nhà anh cả.
19 A strong wind came from the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house. It fell on the young people, and they died. I alone have escaped to tell you.”
Bất thình lình, một trận cuồng phong thổi từ hoang mạc đến và quật vào bốn góc nhà. Nhà sập xuống, và tất cả con cái của ông đều chết. Chỉ còn một mình con sống sót về báo tin cho ông.”
20 Then Job rose, tore his robe, shaved his head, lay facedown on the ground, and worshiped God.
Gióp đứng dậy, xé rách chiếc áo choàng. Rồi ông cạo đầu và phủ phục dưới đất mà thờ lạy.
21 He said, “I was naked when I came out of my mother's womb, and I will be naked when I will return there. It is Yahweh who gave, and it is Yahweh who has taken away. May the name of Yahweh be blessed.”
Ông nói: “Con trần truồng lọt lòng mẹ, con sẽ trần truồng khi trở về. Chúa Hằng Hữu cho con mọi sự, nay Chúa Hằng Hữu lại lấy đi. Danh Chúa Hằng Hữu đáng tôn ngợi biết bao!”
22 In all this matter, Job did not sin, nor did he accuse God of wrongdoing.
Trong các tai họa ấy, Gióp đã không phạm tội xúc phạm Đức Chúa Trời.
