Job 1
1 There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and Job was blameless and upright, one who feared God and turned from evil.
੧ਊਜ਼ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੱਯੂਬ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਨਿਰਦੋਸ਼ ਤੇ ਖਰਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਡਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਬਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
2 There were born to him seven sons and three daughters.
੨ਉਹ ਦੇ ਸੱਤ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਧੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
3 He possessed seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred pairs of oxen, and five hundred donkeys and a great many servants. He was the man who was the greatest of all the people of the East.
੩ਉਹ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਸੱਤ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਭੇਡਾਂ, ਤਿੰਨ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਊਠ, ਪੰਜ ਸੌ ਜੋੜੀ ਬਲ਼ਦ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜ ਸੌ ਗਧੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਨੌਕਰ-ਚਾਕਰ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਪੂਰਬ ਦੇਸ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਧਨਵਾਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੀ।
4 On each son's assigned day, he would give a feast in his house. They would send and call for their three sisters to eat and drink with them.
੪ਉਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਵਾਰੋ-ਵਾਰੀ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਵਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਭੈਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਣ-ਪੀਣ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੋਲ ਸੱਦਾ ਭੇਜਦੇ ਸਨ।
5 When the days of the feast were over, Job would send for them and he would consecrate them. He would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings for each of his children, for he would say, “It may be that my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” Job always did this.
੫ਜਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਾਵਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਤਦ ਅੱਯੂਬ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੋਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਲੀਆਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਅੱਯੂਬ ਆਖਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿਤੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਪਾਪ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਟਕਾਰਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ। ਅੱਯੂਬ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
6 Then it was the day when the sons of God came to present themselves before Yahweh. Satan also came with them.
੬ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਦੂਤ ਆਏ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਨ, ਤਦ ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਇਆ।
7 Yahweh said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Then Satan answered Yahweh and said, “From wandering on the earth, from going back and forth on it.”
੭ਤਦ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਤੂੰ ਕਿੱਥੋਂ ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ?” ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ ਨੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਤਰ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਘੁੰਮ ਫਿਰ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਧਰ-ਉੱਧਰ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ।”
8 Yahweh said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and turns from evil.”
੮ਤਦ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਅੱਯੂਬ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ? ਉਹ ਖਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਨੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਡਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।”
9 Then Satan answered Yahweh and said, “Does Job fear God without reason?
੯ਤਦ ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ ਨੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਤਰ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਕੀ ਅੱਯੂਬ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਲਾਭ ਦੇ ਡਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
10 Have you not put a barrier around him, around his house, and around all that is his from every side? You have blessed the deeds of his hands, and his cattle have burst forth in the land.
੧੦ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਲੇ-ਦੁਆਲੇ ਵਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਾਈ? ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਰਕਤ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਸੋ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਧਨ-ਸੰਪਤੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਧ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
11 But now stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and see if he does not curse you to your face.”
੧੧ਜ਼ਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਤਾਂ ਵਧਾ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੂਹ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰੇਗਾ।”
12 Yahweh said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your hand. Only against him himself do not stretch out your hand.” Then Satan went away from the presence of Yahweh.
੧੨ਤਦ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਵੇਖ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ। ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਨਾ ਲਾਵੀਂ।” ਤਦ ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੋਂ ਚਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
13 It came about that on a certain day, his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house.
੧੩ਫਿਰ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਧੀਆਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਰਾ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਅ ਪੀਂਦੇ ਸਨ।
14 A messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were feeding beside them.
੧੪ਤਦ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਤ ਅੱਯੂਬ ਕੋਲ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਬਲ਼ਦ ਹਲੀਂ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਗਧੀਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਚਰ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
15 Then the Sabeans fell on them and took them away. As for the servants, they have struck them with the edge of the sword. I alone have escaped to tell you.”
੧੫ਸ਼ਬਾ ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖੋਹ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਜੁਆਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਧਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ! ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਇਕੱਲਾ ਬਚ ਕੇ ਨਿੱਕਲਿਆ ਹਾਂ, ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਾਂ।”
16 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God fell from the heavens and burned up the sheep and the servants. I alone have escaped to tell you.”
੧੬ਉਹ ਅਜੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੀ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਰੀ। ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਭੇਡਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਜੁਆਨ ਭਸਮ ਹੋ ਗਏ! ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਇਕੱਲਾ ਬਚ ਨਿੱਕਲਿਆ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਾਂ।”
17 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three groups, attacked the camels, and have taken them away. As for the servants, they have struck them with the edge of the sword. I alone have escaped to tell you.”
੧੭ਉਹ ਅਜੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੀ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਕਸਦੀ ਤਿੰਨ ਟੋਲੀਆਂ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਊਠਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਆ ਪਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖੋਹ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਜੁਆਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਧਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ! ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਇਕੱਲਾ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਾਂ।”
18 While he was yet speaking, another also came and said, “Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house.
੧੮ਉਹ ਵੀ ਅਜੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰ ਹੀ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਣ ਲੱਗਾ, “ਤੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਧੀਆਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਰਾ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਅ ਪੀਂਦੇ ਸਨ,
19 A strong wind came from the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house. It fell on the young people, and they died. I alone have escaped to tell you.”
੧੯ਤਦ ਵੇਖੋ, ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡੀ ਹਵਾ ਜੰਗਲ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਈ ਅਤੇ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਚੌਂਹਾਂ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਟੱਕਰ ਮਾਰੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਘਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੁਆਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਰ ਗਏ! ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਇਕੱਲਾ ਬਚ ਨਿੱਕਲਿਆ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਾਂ।”
20 Then Job rose, tore his robe, shaved his head, lay facedown on the ground, and worshiped God.
੨੦ਤਦ ਅੱਯੂਬ ਉੱਠਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਾੜੇ, ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਰ ਮੁਨਾ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਡਿੱਗ ਕੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕਿਆ।
21 He said, “I was naked when I came out of my mother's womb, and I will be naked when I will return there. It is Yahweh who gave, and it is Yahweh who has taken away. May the name of Yahweh be blessed.”
੨੧ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਤੋਂ ਨੰਗਾ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਨੰਗਾ ਹੀ ਮੁੜ ਜਾਂਵਾਂਗਾ, ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ, ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੁਬਾਰਕ ਹੋਵੇ।”
22 In all this matter, Job did not sin, nor did he accuse God of wrongdoing.
੨੨ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾ ਤਾਂ ਅੱਯੂਬ ਨੇ ਪਾਪ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੇਸਮਝੀ ਨਾਲ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਾਇਆ।
