Jeremiah 8
1 “At that time—this is Yahweh's declaration—they will bring out from the graves the bones of the kings of Judah and its officials, the bones of the priests and the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
En aquel tiempo, dijo el SEÑOR: Sacarán los huesos de los reyes de Judá, y los huesos de sus príncipes, y los huesos de los sacerdotes, y los huesos de los profetas, y los huesos de los moradores de Jerusalén, fuera de sus sepulcros;
2 Then they will spread them out in the light of the sun and moon and all the stars of the skies; these things in the sky that they have followed and served, that they have walked after and sought, and that they have worshiped. The bones will not be gathered or buried again. They will be like dung on the surface of the earth.
y los esparcirán al sol, y a la luna, y a todo el ejército del cielo, a quien amaron, y a quienes sirvieron, y en pos de quienes anduvieron, y a quienes preguntaron, y a quienes se encorvaron. No serán recogidos, ni enterrados; serán por muladar sobre la faz de la tierra.
3 In every remaining place where I have driven them, they will choose death instead of life for themselves, all who are still left over from this evil nation—this is the declaration of Yahweh of hosts.
Y se escogerá la muerte antes que la vida todo el resto que quedare de esta mala generación, en todos los lugares a donde arrojaré yo a los que quedaren, dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos.
4 So say to them, 'Yahweh says this: Does anyone fall and not get up? Does anyone get lost and not try to return?
Les dirás asimismo: Así dijo el SEÑOR: ¿Por ventura el que cae, nunca se levanta? ¿El que se aparta, nunca torna?
5 Why has this people, Jerusalem, turned away in permanent faithlessness? They hold on to treachery and refuse to repent.
¿Por qué es este pueblo de Jerusalén rebelde con rebeldía perpetua? Abrazaron el engaño, no quisieron volverse.
6 I paid attention and listened, but they did not speak right; no one was sorry for his wickedness, no one who says, “What have I done?” All of them go where they wish, like a stallion rushing toward battle.
Escuché y oí; no hablan derecho, no hay hombre que se arrepienta de su mal, diciendo: ¿Qué he hecho? Cada cual se volvió a su carrera, como caballo que arremete con ímpetu a la batalla.
7 Even the stork in heaven knows the right times; and the doves, swifts, and cranes. They go on their migrations at the right time, but my people do not know Yahweh's decrees.
Aun la cigüeña en el cielo conoce su tiempo, y la tórtola y la grulla y la golondrina guardan el tiempo de su venida; mas mi pueblo no conoció el juicio del SEÑOR.
8 How can you say, “We are wise, for the law of Yahweh is with us”? Indeed, see! The deceitful pen of the scribes has created deceit.
¿Cómo decís: Nosotros somos sabios, y la ley del SEÑOR tenemos con nosotros? Ciertamente, he aquí que en vano se cortó la pluma, por demás fueron los escribas.
9 The wise men will be ashamed. They are dismayed and trapped. Behold! They reject Yahweh's word, so what use is their wisdom?
Los sabios se avergonzaron, se espantaron y fueron presos; he aquí que aborrecieron la palabra del SEÑOR; ¿y qué sabiduría tienen?
10 So I will give their wives to others, and their fields to those who will possess them, because from the least to the greatest, all of them are greedy for dishonest gain! From the prophet to the priest, all of them practice deceit.
Por tanto, daré a otros sus mujeres, y sus heredades a quien las heredará, porque desde el chico hasta el grande cada uno sigue la avaricia; desde el profeta hasta el sacerdote todos hacen engaño.
11 They healed the wounds of my people lightly, saying, “Peace, Peace,” when there was no peace.
Y curaron el quebrantamiento de la hija de mi pueblo con liviandad, diciendo: Paz, paz; y no hay paz.
12 Were they ashamed when they practiced abominations? They were not ashamed; they did not know how to blush! So they will fall among the fallen; they will be brought down when they are punished, says Yahweh.
¿Se han avergonzado de haber hecho abominación? Por cierto no se han corrido de vergüenza, ni supieron avergonzarse; caerán, por tanto, entre los que cayeren, cuando los visitare, caerán, dice el SEÑOR.
13 I will remove them completely—this is Yahweh's declaration—there will be no grapes on the vine, nor will there be figs on the fig trees. For the leaf will wither, and what I have given to them will pass away.
Los cortaré del todo, dijo el SEÑOR. No hay uvas en la vid, ni higos en la higuera, y se caerá la hoja; y lo que les he dado pasará de ellos.
14 Why are we sitting here? Come together; let us go to the fortified cities, and we will become silent there in death. For Yahweh our God will silence us. He will make us drink poison, since we have sinned against him.
¿Sobre qué nos aseguramos? Juntaos, y entrémonos en las ciudades fuertes, y allí quedaremos quietos; porque el SEÑOR nuestro Dios nos ha hecho callar, y nos dio a beber bebida de hiel, porque pecamos contra el SEÑOR.
15 We are hoping for peace, but there will be nothing good. We are hoping for a time of healing, but see, there will be terror.
Esperamos paz, y no hubo bien; día de cura, y he aquí turbación.
16 The snorting of his stallions is heard from Dan. The whole earth shakes at the sound of the neighing of his strong horses. For they will come and consume the land and its wealth, the city and the ones living in it.
Desde Dan se oyó el bufido de sus caballos; del sonido de los relinchos de sus fuertes tembló toda la tierra; y vinieron y devoraron la tierra y su abundancia, ciudad y moradores de ella.
17 For see, I am sending out snakes among you, vipers that you cannot charm. They will bite you—this is Yahweh's declaration.'”
Porque he aquí que yo envío sobre vosotros serpientes, basiliscos, contra los cuales no hay encantamiento; y os morderán, dijo el SEÑOR.
18 My sorrow has no end, and my heart is sick.
A causa de mi fuerte dolor, mi corazón desfallece en mí.
19 Behold! The screaming voice of the daughter of my people from a land far away! Is Yahweh not in Zion? Is her king no longer there? Why then do they provoke me to anger with their carved figures and their worthless foreign idols?
He aquí voz del clamor de la hija de mi pueblo, que viene de la tierra lejana: ¿No está el SEÑOR en Sion? ¿No está en ella su Rey? ¿Por qué me hicieron airar con sus imágenes de talla, con vanidades de dios ajeno?
20 The harvest has passed on, summer is over. But we have not been saved.
Se pasó la siega, se acabó el verano, y nosotros no hemos sido salvos.
21 I am hurt because of the hurt of the daughter of my people. I mourn at the horrible things that have happened to her; I am dismayed.
Quebrantado estoy por el quebrantamiento de la hija de mi pueblo; entenebrecido estoy, espanto me ha arrebatado.
22 Is there no medicine in Gilead? Is there no healer there? Why will the healing of the daughter of my people not happen?
¿No hay bálsamo en Galaad? ¿No hay allí médico? ¿Por qué, pues, no hubo medicina para la hija de mi pueblo?
