< Jeremiah 40 >
1 The word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh after Nebuzaradan the commander of the king's bodyguards had released him at Ramah. He had found Jeremiah bound with chains among all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah who were being carried into exile to Babylon.
Ramah kah Imtawt boeiping Nebuzaradan loh Jerusalem neh Judah hlangsol boeih lakli kah thirhui neh a khih te a loh tih Babylon la a poelyoe. Tedae Jeremiah amah a hlah hnukah BOEIPA taengkah ol ha pawk.
2 The chief guard took Jeremiah and said to him, “Yahweh your God decreed this disaster for this place.
Imtawt boeiping loh Jeremiah te a loh tih a taengah, “BOEIPA na Pathen loh he hmuen he thae a phoei coeng.
3 So Yahweh brought it about. He did just as he had decreed, since you people sinned against him and did not obey his voice. That is why this thing has happened to you people.
BOEIPA taengah na tholh uh dongah ni a thui bangla BOEIPA loh a thoeng sak tih a saii. A ol te na hnatun uh pawt dongah ni he ol he a ol bangla nangmih taengah a thoeng.
4 But now look! I have released you today from the chains that were on your hands. If it is good in your eyes to come with me to Babylon, come, and I will take care of you. But if it is not good in your eyes to come with me to Babylon, then do not do so. Look at all the land before you. Go where it is good and right in your eyes to go.”
Tihnin ah na kut dongkah thirhui dong lamloh nang kan hlam coeng ne. Na mik dongah a then atah kamah taengah Babylon la na lo mako. Na lo vaengah ka mik he nang soah ka khueh bitni. 5 When Jeremiah did not reply, Nebuzaradan said, “Go to Gedaliah son of Ahikam son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has put in charge of the cities of Judah. Stay with him among the people or go wherever it is good in your eyes to go.” The commander of the king's bodyguards gave him food and a gift, and then sent him away.
Tedae na caeh pawt dongah Shaphan koca Ahikam capa Gedaliah taengla cet. Anih te Babylon manghai loh Judah khopuei rhoek ham a tuek coeng. Te dongah anih neh pilnam lakli ah khosa. 6 So Jeremiah went to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, at Mizpah. He stayed with him among the people who were left behind in the land.
Te phoeiah Jeremiah te Mizpah kah Ahikam capa Gedaliah taengla cet tih khohmuen kah aka om pilnam lakli ah kho a sak.
7 Now some commanders of Judean soldiers who were still in the countryside—they and their men—heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah son of Ahikam governor over the land. They also heard that he had put him in charge of the men, women, and children who were the poorest people in the land, those who had not been exiled to Babylon.
Babylon manghai loh Ahikam capa Gedaliah te khohmuen kah ham a tuek. Babylon la a poelyoe pawh khohmuen kah khodaeng huta camoe hlang boeih anih a hung sak te kohong kah caem mangpa boeih neh a hlang rhoek loh a yaak uh.
8 So they went to Gedaliah at Mizpah. These men were Ishmael son of Nethaniah; Johanan and Jonathan, sons of Kareah; Seraiah son of Tanhumeth; the sons of Ephai the Netophathite; and Jaazaniah son of the Maakathite—they and their men.

9 Gedaliah son of Ahikam son of Shaphan took an oath to them and to their men and said to them, “Do not be afraid to serve the Chaldean officials. Live in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it will go well with you.
Te vaengah amih ham te Shaphan koca Ahikam capa Gedaliah loh a toemngam tih a hlang rhoek taengah, “Khalden taengah thohtat ham te rhih boeh, a khohmuen ah kho na sak uh tih Babylon manghai taengah na thohtat uh daengah ni, nangmih ham a voelphoeng eh.
10 Look, I am living in Mizpah to meet with the Chaldeans who came to us. So harvest wine, summer fruit, and oil and store them in your containers. Live in the cities that you have occupied.”

11 Then all the Judeans in Moab, among the people of Ammon, and in Edom, and in every land heard that the king of Babylon had allowed a remnant of Judah to stay, that he had appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam son of Shaphan over them.
Babylon manghai loh Judah ah a meet a paih tih amih ham Shaphan koca Ahikam capa Gedaliah a khueh te Moab neh Ammon koca rhoek taengah, Edom neh diklai pum kah Judah boeih long khaw a yaak uh.
12 So all the Judeans returned from every place where they had been scattered. They came back to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah at Mizpah. They harvested wine and summer fruit in great abundance.
Te dongah Judah rhoek he hmuen takuem lamloh boeih mael uh. Te ah te a heh uh coeng dae Judah khohmuen Mizpah kah Gedaliah taengla ha pawk uh. Te dongah khohal misur khaw a coi uh tih muep kum uh.
13 Johanan son of Kareah and all the army commanders in the countryside came to Gedaliah at Mizpah.
Te phoeiah kohong kah Kareah capa Johanan neh caem mangpa boeih khaw Mizpah kah Gedaliah taengla pawk uh.
14 They said to him, “Do you realize that Baalis king of the people of Ammon sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to murder you?” But Gedaliah son of Ahikim did not believe them.
Te vaengah anih te, “Ammon koca kah manghai Baalis loh na hinglu ngawn ham Nethaniah capa Ishmael han tueih te na ming khaw na ming van nim,” a ti nauh. Tedae Ahikam capa Gedaliah loh amih te a tangnah moenih.
15 So Johanan son of Kareah spoke privately to Gedaliah in Mizpah and said, “Allow me to go kill Ishmael son of Nethaniah. No one will suspect me. Why should he kill you? Why allow all of Judah that has been gathered to you to be scattered and the remnant of Judah destroyed?”
Te vaengah Kareah capa Johanan loh Gedaliah te Mizpah ah a huep la, “Ka cet laeh vetih Nethaniah capa Ishmael te ka ngawn mako, hlang loh ming aih mahpawh, na hinglu aka ngawn ham te baham nim? Na taengkah aka tingtun Judah pum he a taek a yak uh vetih Judah kah a meet khaw milh hae ni,” a ti nah.
16 But Gedaliah son of Ahikam said to Johanan son of Kareah, “Do not do this thing, for you are telling lies about Ishmael.”
Ahikam capa Gedaliah loh Kareah capa Johanan te, “Te hno te saii rhoe saii boeh, Ishmael kawng te a honghi ni na thui,” a ti nah.
