Jeremiah 20
1 Pashhur son of Immer the priest—he was a leading officer—heard Jeremiah prophesying these words before Yahweh's house.
Et Paschur, fils d'Immer, le sacrificateur, qui était surintendant de la maison de l'Éternel, entendit Jérémie prononcer ces prophéties,
2 So Pashhur beat Jeremiah the prophet and then placed him in the stocks that were at the Upper Gate of Benjamin in Yahweh's house.
et Paschur frappa Jérémie, le prophète, et le mit dans la prison qui était à la porte supérieure de Benjamin, dans la maison de l'Éternel.
3 It happened on the next day that Pashhur brought Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him, “Yahweh has not called your name Pashhur, but you are Magor Missabib.
Mais, dès le lendemain, Paschur fit sortir Jérémie de prison. Alors Jérémie lui dit: Ce n'est plus Paschur (entouré de sécurité) que l'Éternel t'appelle, mais Magor Missabib (terreur de toute part).
4 For Yahweh says this, 'Look, I will make you an object of horror, you and all of your loved ones, for they will fall by the sword of their enemies and your eyes will see it. I will give all of Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon. He will make them captives in Babylon or attack them with the sword.
Car ainsi parle l'Éternel: Voici, je te livre à la terreur, toi et tous tes amis, et ils tomberont par l'épée de leurs ennemis, et tes yeux le verront; et je livrerai tout Juda aux mains du roi de Babel, pour qu'il les emmène à Babel, et les frappe de l'épée.
5 I will give him all the wealth of this city and all of its riches, all of its precious items and all the treasures of the kings of Judah. I will place these things in the hand of your enemies, and they will seize them. They will take them and bring them to Babylon.
Et je livrerai toutes les richesses de cette ville, et tous ses gains, et tout ce qu'elle a de précieux, et tous les trésors des rois de Juda, je les livrerai aux mains de leurs ennemis qui les pilleront, les emporteront et les emmèneront à Babel.
6 But you, Pashhur, and all the inhabitants of your house will go into captivity. You will go to Babylon and die there. You and all of your loved ones to whom you prophesied deceitful things will be buried there.'”
Et toi, Paschur, et tous les habitants de ta maison, vous irez en captivité, et tu arriveras à Babel, et là tu mourras, et là tu seras enterré, toi et tous tes amis pour lesquels tu as été un prophète menteur.
7 “Yahweh, you deceived me, and I was deceived. You are stronger than I, and you overpowered me. I have become a laughingstock all day long; everyone mocks me.
« Tu m'as persuadé, Éternel, et je me suis laissé persuader; tu m'as pressé, et tu l'as emporté. Je suis tous les jours tourné en dérision; tous se moquent de moi;
8 For whenever I have spoken, I have called out and proclaimed, 'Violence and destruction.' Then Yahweh's word has become for me reproach and mocking every day.
car toutes les fois que je parle, je dois crier, annoncer la violence et la ruine! Aussi la parole de l'Éternel m'est-elle à honte et à opprobre chaque jour,
9 If I say, 'I will not think about Yahweh anymore. I will not speak any longer in his name.' Then it is like a fire in my heart, held within my bones. So I struggle to contain it but I cannot.
et j'ai dit: Je ne ferai plus mention de Lui, et ne parlerai plus en son nom; mais j'ai eu dans mon cœur comme un feu allumé, enfermé dans mes os, et je me fatiguai à le contenir, et je n'ai pu.
10 I have heard rumors of terror from many people all around. 'Report! We must report it!' Those who are close to me watch to see if I will fall. 'Perhaps he can be tricked. If so, we can overpower him and take our revenge on him.'
Aussi j'entends les blasphèmes de la foule, terreur de toute part!: « Dénoncez-le, et nous le dénoncerons! » Tous mes amis qui sont à mes côtés, disent: « Peut-être il sera séduit, alors nous serons maîtres de lui, et nous tirerons vengeance de lui. »
11 But Yahweh is with me like a powerful warrior, so the ones pursuing me will stagger. They will not defeat me. They will be greatly ashamed, because they will not succeed. They will have unending shame, it will never be forgotten.
Mais l'Éternel m'assiste, comme un héros redoutable; c'est pourquoi mes persécuteurs succomberont, et ne seront pas les maîtres; qu'ils soient honteux d'avoir échoué! c'est un opprobre éternel qui ne sera pas oublié.
12 But Yahweh of hosts, you examine the righteous and see the mind and the heart. Let me see your vengeance on them for I have committed my cause to you.
Car l'Éternel des armées éprouve le juste, Il pénètre les reins et le cœur; je verrai tes vengeances s'exercer sur eux, car c'est à toi que je me suis ouvert de mes griefs.
13 Sing to Yahweh! Praise Yahweh! For he has rescued the lives of those who are oppressed from the hand of evildoers.
Chantez l'Éternel! louez l'Éternel, car Il a retiré l'âme de l'affligé de la main des méchants! »
14 Let the day when I was born be cursed. Do not let the day that my mother bore me be blessed.
« Maudit le jour auquel je suis né, le jour auquel ma mère m'enfanta! qu'il ne soit pas béni!
15 Let the man who informed my father be cursed, the one who said, 'A male child has been born to you,' causing great joy.
Maudit l'homme qui en porta la nouvelle à mon père, et lui dit: « Il t'est né un fils! » et le combla de joie!
16 Let that man be like the cities that Yahweh overthrew and he did not have compassion on them. Let him hear a cry for help in the dawn, a battle cry at noontime,
Que cet homme soit assimilé aux villes que l'Éternel détruit sans regret; qu'il entende des plaintes le matin, et des cris à midi,
17 because he did not kill me in the womb, making my mother to be my tomb, a womb that was pregnant forever.
parce qu'on ne me tua pas avant ma naissance, en sorte que ma mère eût été mon tombeau, et que son sein fût resté dans un état de grossesse éternelle!
18 Why is it that I came out from the womb to see troubles and agony, so that my days are filled with shame?”
Pourquoi sortis-je du sein maternel pour être témoin de la misère et de la peine, et consumer mes jours dans la honte? »
