Jeremiah 20
1 Pashhur son of Immer the priest—he was a leading officer—heard Jeremiah prophesying these words before Yahweh's house.
Et Paschor, fils d'Emmer le prêtre, qui était établi intendant du temple du Seigneur, entendit Jérémie comme il prophétisait en ses discours.
2 So Pashhur beat Jeremiah the prophet and then placed him in the stocks that were at the Upper Gate of Benjamin in Yahweh's house.
Et il le frappa, et il le jeta dans un cachot, à la porte haute d'une maison séparée dans le temple de Dieu.
3 It happened on the next day that Pashhur brought Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him, “Yahweh has not called your name Pashhur, but you are Magor Missabib.
Puis Paschor fit sortir Jérémie du cachot, et Jérémie lui dit: Le Seigneur ne t'appelle plus Paschor, mais l'exilé.
4 For Yahweh says this, 'Look, I will make you an object of horror, you and all of your loved ones, for they will fall by the sword of their enemies and your eyes will see it. I will give all of Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon. He will make them captives in Babylon or attack them with the sword.
Car ainsi dit le Seigneur: Voilà que je vais faire emmener en exil toi et tes proches; et ceux-ci tomberont sous le glaive de leurs ennemis, et tes yeux le verront, et je livrerai toi et tout Juda au roi de Babylone, et il vous transportera au loin, et il vous frappera du glaive.
5 I will give him all the wealth of this city and all of its riches, all of its precious items and all the treasures of the kings of Judah. I will place these things in the hand of your enemies, and they will seize them. They will take them and bring them to Babylon.
Et je livrerai aux mains de ses ennemis toute la richesse de cette ville, tout le fruit de ses travaux, et tous les trésors des rois de Juda, pour les emporter à Babylone.
6 But you, Pashhur, and all the inhabitants of your house will go into captivity. You will go to Babylon and die there. You and all of your loved ones to whom you prophesied deceitful things will be buried there.'”
Et toi et tous ceux qui résident en ta maison, vous irez en captivité, et tu mourras à Babylone, et tu y seras enseveli avec tes proches, à qui tu as prophétisé le mensonge.
7 “Yahweh, you deceived me, and I was deceived. You are stronger than I, and you overpowered me. I have become a laughingstock all day long; everyone mocks me.
Vous m'avez trompé, Seigneur, et j'ai été séduit. Vous avez prévalu, car vous avez la force; je suis devenu pour eux un sujet de dérision, et chaque jour ils ne cessent de me railler.
8 For whenever I have spoken, I have called out and proclaimed, 'Violence and destruction.' Then Yahweh's word has become for me reproach and mocking every day.
Je rirai moi-même avec amertume de mon impuissance; j'appellerai sur moi la misère, parce que la parole du Seigneur m'est devenue un opprobre, et que je suis insulté tout le jour.
9 If I say, 'I will not think about Yahweh anymore. I will not speak any longer in his name.' Then it is like a fire in my heart, held within my bones. So I struggle to contain it but I cannot.
Et j'ai dit: Je ne prononcerai plus le nom du Seigneur, et je ne parlerai plus en son nom. Et j'ai dans mes os comme un feu ardent; tout mon corps est défaillant; je ne puis plus supporter
10 I have heard rumors of terror from many people all around. 'Report! We must report it!' Those who are close to me watch to see if I will fall. 'Perhaps he can be tricked. If so, we can overpower him and take our revenge on him.'
De m'entendre outrager par tous ceux qui s'attroupent autour de moi. Conspirez, disent-ils, conspirons tous contre cet homme, nous qui étions ses amis; surveillez ses intentions, s'il peut être séduit, sur lui nous prévaudrons, et de lui nous tirerons vengeance.
11 But Yahweh is with me like a powerful warrior, so the ones pursuing me will stagger. They will not defeat me. They will be greatly ashamed, because they will not succeed. They will have unending shame, it will never be forgotten.
Mais le Seigneur est avec moi, comme un puissant homme de guerre. Aussi m'ont-ils persécuté, mais ils n'ont pu rien découvrir contre moi; et ils ont été grandement confondus, parce qu'ils n'avaient point prévu leur propre honte, qui ne sera plus jamais oubliée.
12 But Yahweh of hosts, you examine the righteous and see the mind and the heart. Let me see your vengeance on them for I have committed my cause to you.
Seigneur, qui jugez les choses justes; qui sondez les reins et les cœurs, puissé-je voir la vengeance que vous tirerez d'eux; car je vous ai expliqué ma cause.
13 Sing to Yahweh! Praise Yahweh! For he has rescued the lives of those who are oppressed from the hand of evildoers.
Chantez le Seigneur; louez-le parce qu'il a dérobé l'âme du pauvre aux mains des méchants.
14 Let the day when I was born be cursed. Do not let the day that my mother bore me be blessed.
Maudit soit le jour où j'ai été conçu; que le jour où ma mère m'a enfanté ne soit pas glorifié!
15 Let the man who informed my father be cursed, the one who said, 'A male child has been born to you,' causing great joy.
Maudit soit l'homme qui est venu annoncer à mon père une bonne nouvelle, en disant: Il t'est né un fils!
16 Let that man be like the cities that Yahweh overthrew and he did not have compassion on them. Let him hear a cry for help in the dawn, a battle cry at noontime,
Que cet homme se réjouisse comme les villes que le Seigneur, sans pitié, a renversées dans sa colère; qu'il entende des clameurs le matin, et des cris de guerre à midi;
17 because he did not kill me in the womb, making my mother to be my tomb, a womb that was pregnant forever.
Parce qu'il ne m'a point tué dans le sein de ma mère; car ma mère eût été mon sépulcre, et sa conception eût duré toujours.
18 Why is it that I came out from the womb to see troubles and agony, so that my days are filled with shame?”
Fallait-il que je sortisse de ses entrailles, pour ne voir que peines et douleurs, tandis que mes jours s'écoulent dans la honte?
