< Jeremiah 2 >

1 The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
Wach Jehova Nyasaye nobirona:
2 “Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem. Say, 'Yahweh says this: I have called to mind on your behalf the covenant faithfulness in your youthfulness, your love at the time when we were engaged, when you went after me in the wilderness, the land that was not sown.
“Dhi kendo igo milome ka Jerusalem winjo ni: “Ma e gima Jehova Nyasaye wacho: “‘Aparo kaka ne ichiwori kane in rawera, ne ihera ka nyako moikore ne kend, ne iluwo bangʼa kama otimo ongoro, e piny ma ok purie.
3 Israel was set apart to Yahweh, the firstfruits of his harvest! All who ate from the firstfruits were held guilty; disaster came upon them—this is Yahweh's declaration.'”
Israel ne en oganda maler ne Jehova Nyasaye, kaka olembege mokwongo chiek; jogo duto mane okidhe nomak kaka joketho, kendo masira nomakogi,’” Jehova Nyasaye owacho.
4 Hear the word of Yahweh, house of Jacob, all you clans of the house of Israel.
Winj wach Jehova Nyasaye, yaye od Jakobo, un dhoudi duto mag dhood Israel.
5 Yahweh says this, “What did your fathers find wrong with me, that they went far from following me? That they went after useless idols and became useless themselves?
Ma e gima Jehova Nyasaye wacho: “En ketho mane mane wuoneu oyudo kuoma, momiyo ne gibaro mabor koda? Negiluwo bangʼ nyiseche manono mi gibedo manono gin giwegi.
6 They did not say, 'Where is Yahweh, who brought us up from the land of Egypt? Where is Yahweh, who led us to the wilderness, into the land of the Arabah and pits, in a land of drought and deep darkness, a land through which no one passes and where no one lives?'
Ne ok gipenjo ni, ‘Ere Jehova Nyasaye, mane ogolowa Misri, kendo otelonwa e thim ma ok nyag gimoro, ka wakalo piny motwo kod piny motimo bugni, piny ongoro kod mudho, piny maonge ngʼama wuothoe, kendo onge ngʼama odakie?’
7 But I brought you to the land of Carmel, to eat its fruit and other good things! Yet when you came, you defiled my land, you made my inheritance an abomination!
Ne akelou e piny momewo mondo ucham olembege kod nyak mage momewo. To ne ubiro mi unjawo pinya kendo umiyo girkeni maga obedo gima odwanyore.
8 The priest did not say, 'Where is Yahweh?' and the experts in the law did not care about me! The shepherds transgressed against me. The prophets prophesied for Baal and walked after unprofitable things.
Jodolo ne ok openjo, ‘Ere Jehova Nyasaye?’ Jogo matiyo gi chik ne ok ongʼeya; jotelo nongʼanyona. Jonabi nokoro gi Baal, ka giluwo nyiseche manono.”
9 So I will still accuse you—this is Yahweh's declaration—and I will accuse your sons' sons.
Jehova Nyasaye wacho niya, “Emomiyo abiro kumou kendo. Bende abiro kumo nyikwau.
10 For cross over to the coasts of Kittim and look. Send messengers out to Kedar and find out and see if there has ever before been anything like this.
Dhiuru loka e dho nembe mag Kitim kendo ungʼigi kaka gichalo, bende oruru ji Kedar mondo ginon maber; mondo gine anena ka gima chal kama nosebetie:
11 Has a nation exchanged gods, even though they were not gods? But my people have exchanged their glory for what cannot help them.
Bende ogendini oseloko nyiseche nyaka nene? (Kata kamano bende ok gin nyiseche.) To joga osewilo duongʼ mar Nyasachgi, gi nyiseche manono maonge tiendgi.
12 Shudder, heavens, because of this! Be shocked and horrified—this is Yahweh's declaration.
Kuom mano, agolonu chik, un polo, mondo uyiengni malich, kuwuoro kendo kudhier nono,” Jehova Nyasaye owacho.
13 For my people have committed two evils against me: They have abandoned the springs of living waters, and they have dug out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
“Joga osetimo richo ariyo: Gisejwangʼa, an thidhna mar pi ngima, kendo gisekunyo degnigi giwegi, degni mobarore kendo ma ok nyal tingʼo pi.
14 Is Israel a slave? Was he born in his master's home? So why has he become plunder?
Bende Israel en jatich, ngʼat monywol ka misumba? Kare en angʼo momiyo iyake?
15 Young lions roared against him. They made a lot of noise and made his land a horror. His cities are destroyed without any inhabitants.
Sibuoche oseruto; kendo gisemorne. Giseketho pinye; dalane owangʼ kendo odongʼ gunda.
16 Also, the people of Memphis and Tahpanhes will shave your skull.
Bende, jo-Memfis gi jo-Tapanhes oselielo osimbo mar wiyi.
17 Did you not do this to yourselves when you abandoned Yahweh your God, while he was leading you along the way?
Donge usekelo ma kuomu uwegi, ka ujwangʼo Jehova Nyasaye ma Nyasachu, kane otelonu e yo?
18 So now, why take the road to Egypt and drink the waters of Shihor? Why take the road to Assyria and drink the waters of the Euphrates River?
Koro angʼo momiyo udhi Misri mondo umodh pi moa Shihor? Kendo angʼo momiyo udhi Asuria mondo umodh pi moa e Aora?
19 Your wickedness rebukes you, and your faithlessness punishes you. So think about it and understand that it is wicked and bitter when you forsake Yahweh your God, and have no fear of me—this is the declaration of Lord Yahweh of hosts.
Timbeu maricho biro kelonu kum; wech mane uweyago ema biro kelonu kum. Nonuru kendo ubiro ngʼeyo malongʼo, kaka en gima rach kendo lit ne un uwegi, ka ujwangʼo Jehova Nyasaye ma Nyasachu, kendo ubedo maonge kode gi luor kata matin,” Ruoth Nyasaye ma en Jehova Nyasaye Maratego, owacho kamano.
20 For I broke your yoke that you had in ancient days; I tore your fetters off you. Still you said, 'I will not serve!' since you bowed down on every high hill and beneath every leafy tree, you adulterer.
“Chon gi lala ne ituro jok magi kendo ichodo rateke motweyigo; kiwacho ni, ‘Ok anatini!’ Adier, ewi gode matindo duto kendo e bwo yiende motimo otiep, ninindo piny ka jachode.
21 I planted you as a choice vine, completely from pure seed. How then have you have changed yourself into a corrupt, worthless vine?
Ne apidhoi kaka mzabibu mar kodhi, moyier makare kendo manyak. Kara ere kaka ne iweya mi idonjo e timbe moduwore, kendo ichalo gi mzabibu mar bungu.
22 For even if you clean yourself in the river or wash with strong soap, your iniquity is a stain before me—this is the declaration of the Lord Yahweh.
Kata bedni ilwoko lweti gi magadi kendo itiyo gi sabun mangʼeny, chilo mar ketho mari pod nitiere e nyima,” Jehova Nyasaye Manyalo Gik Moko Duto owacho.
23 How can you say, 'I am not defiled! I have not walked after the Baals'? Look at what you did in the valleys! Consider what you have done—you are a swift female camel running here and there,
“Ere kaka diwachi ni, ‘Ok adwanyora; pod ok aringo aluwo bangʼ Baal?’ Par kaka ne itimori e holo; par gima isetimo. In ngamia ma nyako ma rikni maringo ka gi kacha,
24 a wild donkey accustomed to the wilderness, in her heat sniffing the wind! Who can restrain her lust? None of the males need wear themselves out pursuing her; at mating time they will find her.
punda mar thim mongʼiyo gi kama otwo, ma ngʼweyo yamo kodwaro thuondi; en ngʼa madigengʼe? Onge thuon manyalo thagore ka dware nikech yude yot ka kinde miringo kode ochopo.
25 You must restrain your feet from becoming bare and your throat from being thirsty! But you have said, 'It is hopeless! No, I love strangers and go after them!'
Kik iringi nyaka tiendi dongʼ nono kendo dwondi two. To ne iwacho, ‘Onge tiende! Ahero nyiseche mag pinje mamoko, kendo nyaka aluw bangʼ-gi.’”
26 Like the shame of a thief when he is found, so the house of Israel will be ashamed— they, their kings, their princes, and their priests and prophets!
“Kaka jakuo wiye kuot ka omake, omiyo od Israel wiye okuot, gin gi ruodhigi kod jotendgi, jodolo mag-gi kod jonabi mag-gi.
27 These are the ones who say to the tree, 'You are my father,' and to the stone, 'You gave birth to me.' For their back faces me and not their faces. Nevertheless, they say in the time of troubles, 'Arise and save us!'
Giwachone yien ni, ‘In wuonwa,’ kendo ne kidi ni, ‘In ema ne inywola.’ Giselokona ngʼegi to ok wengegi, to sa ma gin e thagruok, giwacho niya, ‘Bi kendo ireswa!’
28 Yet where are the gods that you made for yourselves? Let them arise if they wish to save you in your time of troubles, for your idols equal your cities in number, Judah!
Kare ere nyisecheu mane uloso ne un uwegi? We mondo gibi ka ginyalo resou ka un e thagruok! Nimar un gi nyiseche mangʼeny, mana kaka un gi dala mangʼeny, yaye Juda.”
29 So why do you accuse me of doing wrong? All of you have sinned against me—this is Yahweh's declaration.
“Angʼo momiyo ungʼadona bura? To un duto usengʼanyona,” Jehova Nyasaye ema owacho.
30 I have punished your people in vain. They would not accept discipline. Your sword has devoured your prophets like a destructive lion!
“Kum mane akumogo jou nobedo kayiem nono; kendo ne ok gilokore. Liganglani osekidho jonabi magi mana kaka sibuor modenyo.”
31 You who belong to this generation! Pay attention to my word, the word of Yahweh! Have I been a wilderness to Israel? Or a land of deep darkness? Why would my people say, 'Let us wander around, we will not go to you anymore'?
Un tiengʼ masani, paruru wach mar Jehova Nyasaye mawacho niya: “Bende asebedo piny motwo ne Israel kata ka piny motimo mudho mandiwa? Angʼo momiyo joga wacho kama: ‘Wan thuolo mondo waba abaya; ok wanabi iri kendo?’
32 Will a virgin forget her jewelry, a bride her veils? Yet my people have forgotten me for days without number!
Bende miaha diwiye wil gi gik molichorego, kata nyako midhi kendo gi lepe mag kisera? Joga to wigi osewil koda, odiechienge ma ok kwan.
33 How well you make your way to look for love. You have even taught your ways to wicked women.
Mano kaka in gi lony e dwaro hera! Kata mana mon ma timbegi richo, nyalo somo timbegi.
34 The blood that was the life of innocent, poor people has been found on your clothes. These people were not discovered in acts of burglary.
Remb joma odhier ma unego yudore e lepu, kata obedo nine ok umakogi ka gituro uteu.” To kuom magi duto,
35 Yet you say, 'I am innocent; surely his anger has turned away from me.' But look! I will bring down judgment on you because you say, 'I have not sinned.'
iwacho ni, “‘Aonge ketho, kendo iye ok owangʼ koda.’ To abiro ngʼadoni bura nikech iwacho ni, ‘Pod ok atimo richo.’
36 Why do you treat so very lightly this change in your ways? You will also be disappointed by Egypt, just as you were by Assyria.
Angʼo momiyo ilworori mangʼeny kiloko yoreni? Ibiro kuod wiyi gi Misri kaka nokuod wiyi gi Asuria.
37 You will also go out from there dejected, with your hands on your head, for Yahweh has rejected the ones whom you trusted, so you will not be helped by them.”
Bende ubiro aa kanyo gi lweteu ka uketo ewiu, nimar Jehova Nyasaye osedagi joma ugeno kuomgi; ok ginikonyu.”
