Isaiah 30
1 “Woe to the rebellious children,” this is Yahweh's declaration. “They make plans, but not from me; they make alliances with other nations, but they were not directed by my Spirit, so they add sin to sin.
Malheur aux enfants réfractaires, dit l'Éternel, qui prennent des mesures, mais non de par moi, et font des alliances, mais non d'après mon esprit, pour accumuler péché sur péché,
2 They set out to go down into Egypt, but have not asked for my direction. They seek protection from Pharaoh and take refuge in the shadow of Egypt.
qui se mettent en chemin pour l'Egypte sans me consulter, pour s'étayer de l'appui de Pharaon et se réfugier sous l'ombrage de l'Egypte!
3 Therefore Pharaoh's protection will be your shame, and the refuge in Egypt's shade, your humiliation,
Car pour eux l'appui de Pharaon tournera en ignominie, et le refuge sous l'ombrage de l'Egypte en confusion,
4 although their princes are at Zoan, and their messengers have come to Hanes.
quoique leurs Princes soient à Tsoan, et que leurs députés aient atteint Chanès.
5 They will all be ashamed because of a people who cannot help them, who are neither help nor aid, but a shame, and even a disgrace.”
Tous ont honte d'un peuple qui leur est inutile, dont ils ne tirent ni secours, ni profit, mais honte et confusion.
6 A declaration about the beasts of the Negev: Through the land of trouble and danger, of the lioness and the lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they carry their riches on the backs of donkeys, and their treasures on the camels' humps, to a people who cannot help them.
Les bêtes de somme sont chargées pour le Midi; par un pays de détresse et d'angoisse d'où viennent la lionne et le lion, la vipère et le serpent volant, ils portent sur la croupe des ânes leurs richesses, et sur le dos des chameaux leurs trésors, à un peuple dont ils n'auront nul profit.
7 For Egypt's help is worthless; therefore I have called her Rahab, who sits still.
Car l'aide de l'Egypte est néant et vanité; c'est pourquoi je l'appelle Grand tumulte pour ne point agir.
8 Now go, write it in their presence on a tablet, and inscribe it on a scroll, that it may be preserved for the time to come as a testimony.
Maintenant va, écris ces choses sur une table devant eux, et marque-les dans un livre, afin qu'elles se conservent pour l'avenir, en témoignage pour l'éternité.
9 For these are a rebellious people, lying children, children who will not hear the instruction of Yahweh.
Car c'est un peuple rebelle, des enfants menteurs, des enfants qui ne veulent pas écouter la loi de l'Éternel,
10 They say to the seers, “Do not see;” and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy the truth to us; speak flattering words to us, prophesy illusions.
qui disent aux Voyants: « Ne voyez pas! » et aux prophètes: « Ne nous prophétisez pas la vérité, dites-nous des choses flatteuses, prophétisez l'illusion!
11 Turn aside from the way, stray off the path; cause the Holy One of Israel to cease speaking before our face.”
Sortez de la voie, quittez le sentier, débarrassez notre vue du Saint d'Israël! »
12 Therefore the Holy One of Israel says, “Because you reject this word and trust in oppression and deceit and lean on it,
Aussi, ainsi parle le Saint d'Israël: Puisque vous méprisez cette parole, et que vous vous confiez dans ce qui est inique et pervers, et que vous vous y appuyez,
13 so this sin will be to you like a broken part ready to fall, like a bulge in a high wall whose fall will happen suddenly, in an instant.”
à cause de cela ce crime vous sera comme une lézarde ruineuse qui fait saillie sur un mur élevé et en amène soudain tout à coup la chute,
14 He will break it as a potter's vessel is broken; he will not spare it, so that there will not be found among its pieces a shard with which to scrape fire from the hearth, or to scoop up water out of the cistern.
et il se brise comme se brise le vase du potier cassé sans pitié, dont les débris n'offrent pas un têt à prendre du feu au foyer, ou à puiser de l'eau à la fontaine.
15 For this is what the Lord Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel says, “In returning and resting you will be saved; in quietness and in trust will be your strength. But you were not willing.
Car ainsi a parlé le Seigneur, l'Éternel, le Saint d'Israël: Dans le retour et le repos sera votre salut, dans la tranquillité et dans la confiance sera votre force; mais vous n'avez pas voulu:
16 You said, 'No, for we will flee on horses,' so you will flee; and, 'We will ride upon swift horses,' so those who pursue you will be swift.
vous avez dit: « Non! mais sur des chevaux nous voulons nous mettre en course. » – C'est pourquoi vous serez mis en fuite! – « Nous voulons monter des coursiers! » – C'est pourquoi ils courront à votre poursuite.
17 One thousand will flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five you will flee until your remnant will be like a flagstaff on the top of a mountain, or like a flag on a hill.”
Mille fuiront à la menace d'un seul, et à la menace de cinq vous fuirez, jusqu'à ce que votre reste soit comme le signal au haut de la montagne, et comme l'étendard sur la colline.
18 Yet Yahweh is waiting to be gracious to you, therefore he is ready to show you mercy. For Yahweh is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.
Aussi tarde-t-il à l'Éternel de vous être propice: aussi se lèverait-Il pour vous prendre en pitié, car l'Éternel est un Dieu juste: heureux tous ceux qui se confient en lui!
19 For a people will live in Zion, in Jerusalem, and you will weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry. When he hears it, he will answer you.
Oui, peuple de Sion qui habites Jérusalem, tu n'as plus à pleurer! Il veut t'être propice à ton cri d'alarme, et t'exaucer, dès qu'il l'ouïra.
20 Though Yahweh gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, even so, your teacher will not hide himself anymore, but you will see your teacher with your own eyes.
Et le Seigneur vous donnera du pain dans l'angoisse, et de l'eau dans la détresse, et tes docteurs ne devront plus se cacher, mais tes yeux regarderont tes docteurs,
21 Your ears will hear a word behind you saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.
et tes oreilles écouteront la parole que derrière toi ils disent: « Voici le chemin! marchez-y! » quand vous allez à droite, et que vous allez à gauche.
22 You will desecrate your carved figures overlaid with silver and your gold cast figures. You will throw them away like a menstrual rag. You will say to them, “Get out of here.”
Alors vous souillerez le revêtement de vos idoles d'argent et les draperies de vos images d'or; vous les jetterez comme de l'ordure; hors d'ici! leur direz-vous.
23 He will give the rain for your seed when you sow the ground, and bread with abundance from the ground, and the crops will be abundant. In that day your cattle will graze in broad pastures.
C'est pourquoi Il vous donnera les pluies des semailles, quand vous ensemencez le sol, et le pain, produit du sol, sera savoureux et nourrissant, et en ce même temps les troupeaux brouteront dans des pacages spacieux.
24 The oxen and the donkeys, who plow the ground, will eat seasoned feed that has been winnowed with a shovel and a fork.
Et les bœufs et les ânes qui travaillent la terre, mangeront un fourrage salé qu'on vannera avec le van et la pelle.
25 On every high mountain and on every high hill, there will be flowing brooks and streams of waters, in the day of the great slaughter when the towers fall.
Et sur tout mont élevé et sur toute colline éminente il y aura des ruisseaux, des courants d'eau, au jour du grand massacre, de la chute des tours.
26 The light of the moon will be like the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter, like the sunlight of seven days. Yahweh will bind up the breaking of his people and heal the bruises of his wounding them.
Et la lumière de la lune sera comme l'éclat du soleil, et l'éclat du soleil sera sept fois plus grand, comme l'éclat de sept jours, quand l'Éternel bandera la plaie de son peuple et guérira les meurtrissures de ses coups.
27 Look, the name of Yahweh comes from a distant place, burning with his anger and in dense smoke. His lips are full of fury, and his tongue is like a devouring fire.
Voici venir de loin le nom de l'Éternel avec le feu de la colère et le terrible incendie; ses lèvres sont pleines de fureur, et sa langue est comme une flamme dévorante,
28 His breath is like an overflowing torrent that reaches up to the middle of the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction. His breath is a bridle in the jaws of the peoples to cause them to wander away.
et son souffle comme un torrent débordé qui s'élève à hauteur d'homme, pour vanner les nations dans le van de la ruine, et mettre la bride de l'égarement entre les mâchoires des nations.
29 You will have a song as in the night when a holy feast is observed, and gladness of heart, as when one goes with a flute to the mountain of Yahweh, to the Rock of Israel.
Vous chanterez comme dans la nuit de la fête solennelle, et votre cœur aura la joie du pèlerin qui au son de la flûte se rend à la montagne de l'Éternel, au rocher d'Israël.
30 Yahweh will make the splendor of his voice heard and show the motion of his arm in storming anger and flames of fire, with windstorm, rainstorm, and hailstones.
Et l'Éternel fera entendre les éclats de sa voix, et voir le mouvement de son bras avec la fureur de la colère, le feu de la flamme dévorante, l'inondation et la tempête et les pierres de la grêle.
31 For at the voice of Yahweh, Assyria will be shattered; he will strike them with a staff.
Oui, à la voix de l'Éternel l'Assyrien tremblera, de sa verge Il le frappera.
32 Every stroke of the appointed rod that Yahweh will lay on them will be accompanied with the music of tambourines and harps as he battles and fights with them.
Et partout où passera la verge qu'il lui destine, et dont l'Éternel le battra, les cymbales et les harpes retentiront, et Il lui livrera des assauts impétueux.
33 For a place of burning was prepared long ago. Indeed, it is prepared for the king, and God has made it deep and wide. The pile is ready with a fire and much wood. The breath of Yahweh, like a stream of brimstone, will set it on fire.
Oui, dès longtemps une Topheth est prête, même pour le roi elle est préparée, profonde et large: son bûcher a du feu et du bois en abondance, le souffle de l'Éternel comme un torrent de soufre l'allume.
