Hosea 4
1 Hear the word of Yahweh, you people of Israel. Yahweh has a lawsuit against the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truthfulness or covenantal faithfulness, no knowledge of God in the land.
Écoutez la parole de l'Éternel, enfants d'Israël! Car l'Éternel a un procès avec les habitants du pays, parce qu'il n'y a ni vérité, ni bonté, ni connaissance de Dieu, dans le pays.
2 There is cursing, lying, killing, stealing and adultery. The people have broken all bounds, and bloodshed comes after bloodshed.
Il n'y a que parjures et mensonges; meurtres, vols et adultères; on use de violence, et un meurtre touche l'autre.
3 So the land is drying up, and everyone living in it is wasting away; the beasts in the fields and the birds in the sky, even the fish in the sea, are being taken away.
C'est pourquoi le pays sera dans le deuil, et tous ses habitants dans la langueur, avec les bêtes des champs et les oiseaux des cieux; même les poissons de la mer périront.
4 But do not allow anyone to bring a lawsuit; do not let anyone accuse anyone else. For it is you, the priests, whom I am accusing.
Mais que nul ne conteste, et que nul ne reprenne! Car ton peuple est comme ceux qui disputent avec le sacrificateur.
5 You priests will stumble during the day; the prophets will also stumble with you by night, and I will destroy your mother.
Tu tomberas de jour; le prophète aussi tombera avec toi de nuit; et je détruirai ta mère.
6 My people are being destroyed because of the lack of knowledge. Because you priests have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you as priests to me. Because you have forgotten my law, although I am your God, I also will forget your children.
Mon peuple est détruit, faute de connaissance. Puisque toi tu as rejeté la connaissance, je te rejetterai, afin que tu n'exerces plus devant moi le sacerdoce; puisque tu as oublié la loi de ton Dieu, moi aussi j'oublierai tes enfants.
7 The more the priests multiplied, the more they sinned against me. They exchanged their honor for shame.
Plus ils se sont multipliés, plus ils ont péché contre moi: je changerai leur gloire en ignominie!
8 They feed on the sin of my people; they are greedy for more of their wickedness.
Ils se nourrissent des péchés de mon peuple; ils sont avides de ses iniquités.
9 It will be the same for the people as for the priests: I will punish them all for their practices; I will repay them for their deeds.
Aussi il en sera du sacrificateur comme du peuple; je le punirai selon ses voies et lui rendrai selon ses œuvres.
10 They will eat but not have enough; they will commit prostitution but not increase, because they have gone far away from Yahweh.
Ils mangeront, et ne seront pas rassasiés; ils se prostitueront, et ne multiplieront pas. Car ils ont abandonné l'Éternel, pour ne pas observer sa loi.
11 They love sexual promiscuity, wine, and new wine, which have taken away their understanding.
La fornication, le vin et le moût ôtent l'entendement.
12 My people consult their wooden idols, and their walking sticks give them prophecies. For a mind of promiscuity has misled them, and they have acted as prostitutes instead of being faithful to their God.
Mon peuple consulte son bois, et son bâton lui prophétise; car l'esprit de fornication égare, et ils se prostituent en abandonnant leur Dieu.
13 They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains and burn incense on the hills, under oaks, poplars and terebinths, because the shade is good. So your daughters commit sexual immorality, and your daughters-in-law commit adultery.
Ils sacrifient sur le sommet des montagnes; sur les coteaux, ils font fumer le parfum; sous le chêne, le peuplier, le térébinthe, dont l'ombre est agréable. C'est pourquoi vos filles se prostituent, et vos belles-filles commettent adultère.
14 I will not punish your daughters when they choose to commit sexual immorality, nor your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery. For the men also give themselves to the prostitutes, and they offer sacrifices so they can commit immoral acts with sacred prostitutes. So this people who does not understand will be thrown down.
Je ne punirai point vos filles parce qu'elles se prostituent, ni vos belles-filles parce qu'elles commettent adultère. Car eux-mêmes se retirent avec des prostituées, et sacrifient avec les femmes consacrées à l'impudicité; et le peuple sans intelligence court à sa ruine.
15 Though you, Israel, have committed adultery, may Judah not become guilty. Do not go to Gilgal, you people; do not go up to Beth Aven, and do not swear, saying, “As Yahweh lives.”
Si tu te prostitues, Israël, que Juda ne se rende pas coupable! N'entrez pas à Guilgal! Et ne montez point à Beth-Aven! Et ne jurez point: “L'Éternel est vivant! “
16 For Israel has behaved stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer. How can Yahweh bring them to pasture like lambs in a meadow?
Parce qu'Israël a été rebelle comme une génisse indomptée, maintenant l'Éternel les fera paître comme un agneau dans des lieux spacieux.
17 Ephraim united himself with idols; leave him alone.
Éphraïm s'est associé aux idoles: abandonne-le!
18 Even when their strong drink is gone, they continue to commit adultery; her rulers dearly love their shame.
Ont-ils fini de boire, les voilà à la fornication. Les chefs d'Israël n'aiment que l'ignominie.
19 The wind will wrap her up in its wings; and they will be ashamed because of their sacrifices.
Le vent les attachera à ses ailes, et ils auront honte de leurs sacrifices.
