Genesis 11
1 Now the whole earth used one language and had the same words.
Başlangıçta dünyadaki bütün insanlar aynı dili konuşur, aynı sözleri kullanırlardı.
2 As they journeyed in the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and they settled there.
Doğuya göçerlerken Şinar bölgesinde bir ova bulup oraya yerleştiler.
3 They said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick instead of stone and tar as mortar.
Birbirlerine, “Gelin, tuğla yapıp iyice pişirelim” dediler. Taş yerine tuğla, harç yerine zift kullandılar.
4 They said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower whose top will reach to the sky, and let us make a name for ourselves. If we do not, we will be scattered across the surface of the whole earth.”
Sonra, “Kendimize bir kent kuralım” dediler, “Göklere erişecek bir kule dikip ün salalım. Böylece yeryüzüne dağılmayız.”
5 So Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower which the descendants of Adam had built.
RAB insanların yaptığı kentle kuleyi görmek için aşağıya indi.
6 Yahweh said, “Look, they are one people with the same language, and they are beginning to do this! Soon nothing that they intend to do will be impossible for them.
“Tek bir halk olup aynı dili konuşarak bunu yapmaya başladıklarına göre, düşündüklerini gerçekleştirecek, hiçbir engel tanımayacaklar” dedi,
7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language there, so that they may not understand each other.”
“Gelin, aşağı inip dillerini karıştıralım ki, birbirlerini anlamasınlar.”
8 So Yahweh scattered them from there across the surface of all the earth and they stopped building the city.
Böylece RAB onları yeryüzüne dağıtarak kentin yapımını durdurdu.
9 Therefore, its name was called Babel, because there Yahweh confused the language of the whole earth and from there Yahweh scattered them abroad over the surface of all the earth.
Bu nedenle kente Babil adı verildi. Çünkü RAB bütün insanların dilini orada karıştırmış ve onları yeryüzünün dört bucağına dağıtmıştı.
10 These were the descendants of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old, and he became the father of Arphaxad two years after the flood.
Sam'ın soyunun öyküsü: Tufandan iki yıl sonra Sam 100 yaşındayken oğlu Arpakşat doğdu.
11 Shem lived five hundred years after he became the father of Arphaxad. He also became the father of other sons and daughters.
Arpakşat'ın doğumundan sonra Sam 500 yıl daha yaşadı. Başka oğulları, kızları oldu.
12 When Arphaxad had lived thirty-five years, he became the father of Shelah.
Arpakşat 35 yaşındayken oğlu Şelah doğdu.
13 Arphaxad lived 403 years after he became the father of Shelah. He also became the father of other sons and daughters.
Şelah'ın doğumundan sonra Arpakşat 403 yıl daha yaşadı. Başka oğulları, kızları oldu.
14 When Shelah had lived thirty years, he became the father of Eber.
Şelah 30 yaşındayken oğlu Ever doğdu.
15 Shelah lived 403 years after he became the father of Eber. He also became the father of other sons and daughters.
Ever'in doğumundan sonra Şelah 403 yıl daha yaşadı. Başka oğulları, kızları oldu.
16 When Eber had lived thirty-four years, he became the father of Peleg.
Ever 34 yaşındayken oğlu Pelek doğdu.
17 Eber lived 430 years after he became the father of Peleg. He also became the father of other sons and daughters.
Pelek'in doğumundan sonra Ever 430 yıl daha yaşadı. Başka oğulları, kızları oldu.
18 When Peleg had lived thirty years, he became the father of Reu.
Pelek 30 yaşındayken oğlu Reu doğdu.
19 Peleg lived 209 years after he became the father of Reu. He also became the father of other sons and daughters.
Reu'nun doğumundan sonra Pelek 209 yıl daha yaşadı. Başka oğulları, kızları oldu.
20 When Reu had lived thirty-two years, he became the father of Serug.
Reu 32 yaşındayken oğlu Seruk doğdu.
21 Reu lived 207 years after he became the father of Serug. He also became the father of other sons and daughters.
Seruk'un doğumundan sonra Reu 207 yıl daha yaşadı. Başka oğulları, kızları oldu.
22 When Serug had lived thirty years, he became the father of Nahor.
Seruk 30 yaşındayken oğlu Nahor doğdu.
23 Serug lived two hundred years after he became the father of Nahor. He also became the father of other sons and daughters.
Nahor'un doğumundan sonra Seruk 200 yıl daha yaşadı. Başka oğulları, kızları oldu.
24 When Nahor had live twenty-nine years, he became the father of Terah.
Nahor 29 yaşındayken oğlu Terah doğdu.
25 Nahor lived 119 years after he became the father of Terah. He also became the father of other sons and daughters.
Terah'ın doğumundan sonra Nahor 119 yıl daha yaşadı. Başka oğulları, kızları oldu.
26 After Terah had lived seventy years, he became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
Yetmiş yaşından sonra Terah'ın Avram, Nahor ve Haran adlı oğulları oldu.
27 Now these were the descendants of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran, and Haran became the father of Lot.
Terah soyunun öyküsü: Terah Avram, Nahor ve Haran'ın babasıydı. Haran'ın Lut adlı bir oğlu oldu.
28 Haran died in the presence of his father Terah in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldeans.
Haran, babası Terah henüz sağken, doğduğu ülkede, Kildaniler'in Ur Kenti'nde öldü.
29 Abram and Nahor took wives. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai and the name of Nahor's wife was Milkah, a daughter of Haran, who was the father of Milkah and Iskah.
Avram'la Nahor evlendiler. Avram'ın karısının adı Saray, Nahor'unkinin adı Milka'ydı. Milka Yiska'nın babası Haran'ın kızıydı.
30 Now Sarai was barren; she had no child.
Saray kısırdı, çocuğu olmuyordu.
31 Terah took Abram his son, Lot the son of his son Haran, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife, and together they left Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan. But they came to Haran and stayed there.
Terah, oğlu Avram'ı, Haran'ın oğlu olan torunu Lut'u ve Avram'ın karısı olan gelini Saray'ı yanına aldı. Kenan ülkesine gitmek üzere Kildaniler'in Ur Kenti'nden ayrıldılar. Harran'a gidip oraya yerleştiler.
32 Terah lived 205 years and then died in Haran.
Terah iki yüz beş yıl yaşadıktan sonra Harran'da öldü.
