Genesis 11
1 Now the whole earth used one language and had the same words.
Και ήτο πάσα η γη μιας γλώσσης και μιας φωνής.
2 As they journeyed in the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and they settled there.
Και ότε εκίνησαν από της ανατολής, εύρον πεδιάδα εν τη γη Σενναάρ· και κατώκησαν εκεί.
3 They said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick instead of stone and tar as mortar.
Και είπεν ο εις προς τον άλλον, Έλθετε, ας κάμωμεν πλίνθους, και ας ψήσωμεν αυτάς εν πυρί· και εχρησίμευσεν εις αυτούς η μεν πλίνθος αντί πέτρας, η δε άσφαλτος εχρησίμευσεν εις αυτούς αντί πηλού.
4 They said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower whose top will reach to the sky, and let us make a name for ourselves. If we do not, we will be scattered across the surface of the whole earth.”
Και είπον, Έλθετε, ας οικοδομήσωμεν εις εαυτούς πόλιν και πύργον, του οποίου η κορυφή να φθάνη έως του ουρανού· και ας αποκτήσωμεν εις εαυτούς όνομα, μήπως διασπαρώμεν επί του προσώπου πάσης της γης.
5 So Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower which the descendants of Adam had built.
Κατέβη δε ο Κύριος διά να ίδη την πόλιν και τον πύργον, τον οποίον ωκοδόμησαν οι υιοί των ανθρώπων.
6 Yahweh said, “Look, they are one people with the same language, and they are beginning to do this! Soon nothing that they intend to do will be impossible for them.
Και είπεν ο Κύριος, Ιδού, εις λαός, και πάντες έχουσι μίαν γλώσσαν, και ήρχισαν να κάμνωσι τούτο· και τώρα δεν θέλει εμποδισθή εις αυτούς παν ό, τι σκοπεύουσι να κάμωσιν·
7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language there, so that they may not understand each other.”
έλθετε, ας καταβώμεν και ας συγχύσωμεν εκεί την γλώσσαν αυτών, διά να μη εννοή ο εις του άλλου την γλώσσαν.
8 So Yahweh scattered them from there across the surface of all the earth and they stopped building the city.
Και διεσκόρπισεν αυτούς ο Κύριος εκείθεν επί του προσώπου πάσης της γής· και έπαυσαν να οικοδομώσι την πόλιν.
9 Therefore, its name was called Babel, because there Yahweh confused the language of the whole earth and from there Yahweh scattered them abroad over the surface of all the earth.
Διά τούτο ωνομάσθη το όνομα αυτής Βαβέλ· διότι εκεί συνέχεεν ο Κύριος την γλώσσαν πάσης της γής· και εκείθεν διεσκόρπισεν αυτούς ο Κύριος επί το πρόσωπον πάσης της γης.
10 These were the descendants of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old, and he became the father of Arphaxad two years after the flood.
Αύτη είναι η γενεαλογία του Σημ. Ο Σημ ήτο ετών εκατόν, ότε εγέννησε τον Αρφαξάδ δύο έτη μετά τον κατακλυσμόν·
11 Shem lived five hundred years after he became the father of Arphaxad. He also became the father of other sons and daughters.
και έζησεν ο Σημ, αφού εγέννησε τον Αρφαξάδ, πεντακόσια έτη, και εγέννησεν υιούς και θυγατέρας.
12 When Arphaxad had lived thirty-five years, he became the father of Shelah.
Και ο Αρφαξάδ έζησε τριάκοντα πέντε έτη, και εγέννησε τον Σαλά·
13 Arphaxad lived 403 years after he became the father of Shelah. He also became the father of other sons and daughters.
και έζησεν ο Αρφαξάδ, αφού εγέννησε τον Σαλά, τετρακόσια τρία έτη, και εγέννησεν υιούς και θυγατέρας.
14 When Shelah had lived thirty years, he became the father of Eber.
Και ο Σαλά έζησε τριάκοντα έτη, και εγέννησε τον Εβερ·
15 Shelah lived 403 years after he became the father of Eber. He also became the father of other sons and daughters.
και έζησεν ο Σαλά, αφού εγέννησε τον Έβερ, τετρακόσια τρία έτη, και εγέννησεν υιούς και θυγατέρας.
16 When Eber had lived thirty-four years, he became the father of Peleg.
Και έζησεν ο Έβερ τριάκοντα τέσσαρα έτη, και εγέννησε τον Φαλέγ·
17 Eber lived 430 years after he became the father of Peleg. He also became the father of other sons and daughters.
και έζησεν ο Έβερ, αφού εγέννησε τον Φαλέγ, τετρακόσια τριάκοντα έτη, και εγέννησεν υιούς και θυγατέρας.
18 When Peleg had lived thirty years, he became the father of Reu.
Και έζησεν ο Φαλέγ τριάκοντα έτη, και εγέννησε τον Ραγαύ·
19 Peleg lived 209 years after he became the father of Reu. He also became the father of other sons and daughters.
και έζησεν ο Φαλέγ, αφού εγέννησε τον Ραγαύ, διακόσια εννέα έτη, και εγέννησεν υιούς και θυγατέρας.
20 When Reu had lived thirty-two years, he became the father of Serug.
Και έζησεν ο Ραγαύ τριάκοντα δύο έτη, και εγέννησε τον Σερούχ·
21 Reu lived 207 years after he became the father of Serug. He also became the father of other sons and daughters.
και έζησεν ο Ραγαύ, αφού εγέννησε τον Σερούχ, διακόσια επτά έτη, και εγέννησεν υιούς και θυγατέρας.
22 When Serug had lived thirty years, he became the father of Nahor.
Και έζησεν ο Σερούχ τριάκοντα έτη, και εγέννησε τον Ναχώρ·
23 Serug lived two hundred years after he became the father of Nahor. He also became the father of other sons and daughters.
και έζησεν ο Σερούχ, αφού εγέννησε τον Ναχώρ, διακόσια έτη, και εγέννησεν υιούς και θυγατέρας.
24 When Nahor had live twenty-nine years, he became the father of Terah.
Και έζησεν ο Ναχώρ εικοσιεννέα έτη, και εγέννησε τον Θάρα·
25 Nahor lived 119 years after he became the father of Terah. He also became the father of other sons and daughters.
και έζησεν ο Ναχώρ, αφού εγέννησε τον Θάρα, εκατόν δεκαεννέα έτη, και εγέννησεν υιούς και θυγατέρας.
26 After Terah had lived seventy years, he became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
Και έζησεν ο Θάρα εβδομήκοντα έτη, και εγέννησε τον Άβραμ, τον Ναχώρ, και τον Αρράν.
27 Now these were the descendants of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran, and Haran became the father of Lot.
Και αύτη είναι η γενεαλογία του Θάρα· ο Θάρα εγέννησε τον Άβραμ, τον Ναχώρ, και τον Αρράν· και ο Αρράν εγέννησε τον Λωτ.
28 Haran died in the presence of his father Terah in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldeans.
Και απέθανεν ο Αρράν ενώπιον Θάρα του πατρός αυτού εν τω τόπω της γεννήσεως αυτού, εν Ουρ των Χαλδαίων.
29 Abram and Nahor took wives. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai and the name of Nahor's wife was Milkah, a daughter of Haran, who was the father of Milkah and Iskah.
Και έλαβον ο Άβραμ και ο Ναχώρ εις εαυτούς γυναίκας· το όνομα της γυναικός του Άβραμ ήτο Σάρα· και το όνομα της γυναικός του Ναχώρ, Μελχά, θυγάτηρ του Αρράν, πατρός Μελχά, και πατρός Ιεσχά.
30 Now Sarai was barren; she had no child.
Η δε Σάρα ήτο στείρα, δεν είχε τέκνον.
31 Terah took Abram his son, Lot the son of his son Haran, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife, and together they left Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan. But they came to Haran and stayed there.
Και έλαβεν ο Θάρα Άβραμ τον υιόν αυτού και Λωτ τον υιόν του Αρράν εγγονόν εαυτού, και Σάραν την εαυτού νύμφην, την γυναίκα Άβραμ του υιού αυτού· και εξήλθον ομού από της Ουρ των Χαλδαίων, διά να υπάγωσιν εις την γην Χαναάν· και ήλθον έως Χαρράν και κατώκησαν εκεί.
32 Terah lived 205 years and then died in Haran.
Και έγειναν αι ημέραι του Θάρα διακόσια πέντε έτη· και απέθανεν ο Θάρα εν Χαρράν.
