Ezra 4
1 Now some enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that the people who had been exiled were now building a temple for Yahweh, the God of Israel.
Quando, pois, os adversários de Judá e de Benjamim, ouviram que os que tinham vindo do cativeiro estavam edificando o templo ao SENHOR, Deus de Israel,
2 So they approached Zerubbabel and the heads of their ancestors' clans. They said to them, “Let us build with you, for, like you, we seek your God and have sacrificed to him since the days when Esarhaddon, king of Assyria, brought us to this place.”
chegaram-se a Zorobabel, e aos chefes das famílias, e lhes disseram: Deixai-nos edificar convosco, porque assim como vós, buscaremos ao vosso Deus, como também já sacrificamos a ele desde os dias de Esar-Hadom, rei da Assíria, que nos fez subir até aqui.
3 But Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the heads of their ancestors' clans said, “It is not you, but we who must build the house of our God, for it is we who will build for Yahweh, the God of Israel, just as King Cyrus of Persia commanded.”
Porém Zorobabel, Jesua, e os demais chefes das famílias de Israel lhes disseram: Não nos convém edificar convosco casa a nosso Deus; mas somente nós a edificaremos ao SENHOR, Deus de Israel, como nos mandou o rei Ciro, rei da Pérsia.
4 So the people of the land made the Judeans' hands weak; they made the Judeans afraid to build.
Todavia o povo da terra desencorajava o povo de Judá, e os perturbava, para que não edificassem.
5 They also bribed counselors to frustrate their plans. They did this during all of Cyrus' days and into the reign of Darius king of Persia.
E subornaram contra eles conselheiros para frustrarem sua intenção, todos os dias de Ciro rei da Pérsia, e até o reinado de Dario, rei da Pérsia.
6 Then at the beginning of Ahasuerus' reign they wrote an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.
E sob o reinado de Assuero, no princípio de seu reinado, escreveram uma acusação contra os moradores de Judá e de Jerusalém.
7 It was during the days of Artaxerxes that Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and their companions wrote to Artaxerxes. The letter was written in Aramaic and translated.
E nos dias de Artaxerxes, Bislão, Mitridate, Tabeel, e os demais seus companheiros, escreveram a Artaxerxes rei da Pérsia; e o escrito da carta estava feito em siríaco, e composto em siríaco.
8 Rehum the commander and Shimshai the scribe wrote this way to Artaxerxes about Jerusalem.
Reum o comandante, e Sinsai o escrivão, escreveram uma carta contra Jerusalém ao rei Artaxerxes, conforme o seguinte:
9 Then Rehum, Shimshai, and their companions, who were judges and other officers in the government, the Persians, men from Erech and Babylon, and the men from Susa (that is, the Elamites)—they wrote a letter—
Reum, o comandante, e Sinsai secretário, e os demais seus companheiros, os dinaítas, os arfasaquitas, tarpelitas, arfasitas, os arquevitas, os babilônios, susanquitas, deavitas, e elamitas;
10 and they were joined by the people whom the great and noble Ashurbanipal forced to settle in Samaria, along with the rest who were in the Province Beyond the River.
E os demais povos que o grande e famoso Asnapar transportou, e fez habitar nas cidades de Samaria, e os demais da região dalém do rio.
11 This is a copy of the letter that they sent to Artaxerxes: “Your servants, men of the Province Beyond the River, write this:
Este é o teor da carta que enviaram: Ao rei Artaxerxes. De teus servos dalém do rio.
12 Let the king know that the Jews who went from you have come against us in Jerusalem to build a rebellious city. They have completed the walls and repaired the foundations.
Seja conhecido do rei que os judeus que subiram de ti a nós, vieram a Jerusalém; e edificam aquela cidade rebelde e má, e estão restaurando [seus] muros; e reparado [seus] fundamentos.
13 Now let the king know that if this city is built and the wall is completed, they will not give any tribute and taxes, but they will harm the kings.
Seja agora conhecido do rei, que se aquela cidade for reconstruída, e os muros forem restaurados, os tributos, taxas, e impostos não serão pagos, e o patrimônio real será prejudicado.
14 Surely because we have eaten the palace salt, it is not fitting for us to see any dishonor happen to the king. It is because of this that we are informing the king
Visto que somos assalariados pelo palácio, não nos convém ver a desonra do rei; por isso mandamos informar ao rei;
15 to search your father's record and to verify that this is a rebellious city that will harm kings and provinces. It has caused many problems to the kings and provinces. It has been a center for rebellion from long ago. It was for this reason that the city was destroyed.
Para que se busque no livro das crônicas de teus pais; e acharás no livro das crônicas, e saberás que aquela cidade foi uma cidade rebelde, prejudicial aos reis e às províncias, e que nela desde antigamente fizeram rebeliões; por isso aquela cidade foi arruinada.
16 We are informing the king that if this city and wall are built, then there will be nothing remaining for you in the Province Beyond the River.”
Por isso informamos ao rei que, se aquela cidade for reconstruída, e seus muros restaurados, a parte além do rio não será tua.
17 So the king sent out a reply to Rehum and Shimshai and their companions in Samaria and the rest who were in the Province Beyond the River: “May peace be yours.
[Então] o rei enviou [esta] resposta a Reum, o comandante, e a Sinsai, o escrivão, e aos demais de seus companheiros que habitam em Samaria, como também aos demais da parte além do rio: Paz.
18 The letter that you sent me has been translated and read to me.
A carta que nos enviastes foi lida claramente diante de mim.
19 So I ordered an investigation and discovered that in previous days they had rebelled and revolted against kings.
E eu dei ordem para que se buscasse; e encontraram que aquela cidade na antiguidade se levantou contra os reis, e nela houve rebelião e insurreição.
20 Mighty kings have ruled over Jerusalem and had power over everything in the Province Beyond the River. Tribute and taxes were paid to them.
E que houve reis poderosos em Jerusalém, dominaram toda a região além do rio; e a eles se pagava tributos, taxas e impostos.
21 Now, make a decree for these men to stop and not build this city until I make a decree.
Agora, pois, dai ordem que impeçam aqueles homens, e aquela cidade não seja reconstruída, até que seja dado mandamento de minha parte.
22 Be careful not to neglect this. Why allow this threat to grow and cause more loss for the royal interests?
E sede cuidadosos para que não falheis nisto; por que haveria de aumentar o dano para o prejuízo real?
23 When King Artaxerxes' decree was read before Rehum, Shimshai, and their companions, they went out quickly to Jerusalem and forced the Jews to stop building.
Assim que o teor da carta do rei Artaxerxes foi lido diante de Reum, e de Sinsai o escrivão, e seus companheiros, eles foram apressadamente a Jerusalém aos judeus, e os impediram com força e violência.
24 So the work on the house of God in Jerusalem stopped until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
Cessou, então, a obra da casa de Deus, a qual estava em Jerusalém; e cessou até o segundo ano do reinado de Dario, rei da Pérsia.
